Super User Root beer Posted February 5, 2008 Super User Posted February 5, 2008 I Just filed my first ever tax return. Took me an hour to complete. Kind of feels like I'm growing up too fast. Seems like yesterday I was running around the yard playing ball and now I'm sitten on computer filing my taxes. : Anybody remember filing their first tax? It was easier then I thought, but that was because I didnt have but my income tax coming back to me. I didnt have any other tax deductible items to file so it was much easy on me. Since football season is over I figured we talk about tax season until baseball season arrive. ;D Quote

I now take my taxes to a tax attorney.Claiming kids, head of house hold and so forth...knowing me i'd screw up and have the IRS knocking at my door if i did mine myself. Quote
Branuss04 Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 I remember that. I couldn't get over uncle sam giving me money. Then I relized how much he already took from me and I was ticked. Now that I live out on my own and my parents can't claim me, i should be getting a lot more back this year. I'm getting a fixing my dirtbike, and getting a wake jr. and then putting away some. Can't wait. Quote
Ballpark Frank Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Yeah gettin a refund is nice, but what about the interest on that money. Thats what I'm waiting on. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted February 5, 2008 Author Super User Posted February 5, 2008 One thing I didnt understand while I was filing my tax. Why in world should they take our income tax then give it back to us at year end? Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 5, 2008 Super User Posted February 5, 2008 If we had to come up with the money to pay our total federal and state tax bills on April 15th of each year we would have a revolution in this country. People get excited about a refund. But how much money are you having to give to the federal and state governments and Social Security? This is why taxes are taken out of our paychecks. So we will not see or miss the actual amount going to the government. Plus the fact that Americans will spend the money and not save it to pay taxes. And don't get on the IRS' back. They are a collection agency which follows the rules and regulations set by Congress. Get on your Senator and Congressman's back to change the system. And if you pay your taxes you don't have to worry about the IRS coming to your front door. Just watch your Congressman so that he does not put his hand down in your pockets any deeper. Quote
slomoe Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 I did mine superbowl halftime. Took me thirty minutes. Turbo tax is pretty easy. Wife-"Tell the box your stuck" Husband-"I'm stuck" ;D Quote
KYbass1276 Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 I did do mine this year and I did screw up. Now I'm trying to figure out how to fix it Quote
moby bass Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 If we had to come up with the money to pay our total federal and state tax bills on April 15th of each year we would have a revolution in this country. Amen to that. Taxes not necessarily too high. Waste too high. Quote
Popeye Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 REFUND?? REFUND?? What the he..'s a REFUND?? My wife and I haven't had one of those in over 10 years. We usually end up paying out more, especially to the Republic of Kalifornia:o( Out here, you step out the door and take a breath of air and the State will TAX you on it. Quote
ba7ss3in Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 wife did ours, getting a little back. Here I come Bait Monkey Quote
Super User Root beer Posted February 5, 2008 Author Super User Posted February 5, 2008 Sam, I live in Tennessee so I dont have to pay state tax. Just Federal tax. However, Tennessee does have high sales tax to make up for lack of state tax. I dont pay state soc. sec., medicare, etc. If I move back to Alabama dad said I'll have to pay state tax. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted February 5, 2008 Super User Posted February 5, 2008 Great...I was an invited guest at our local IRS office yesterday from 11:50am until 1:40pm. That's not the type of invite you will ever want. They lightened my load to the tune of over $9,000.00 Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Yea I gave some guy some money. Then he did it for me. x2 I can't be bothered with that crap. Plus, it ends up paying for itself because he knows things I don't, so I wouldn't get as much back if I did it myself. Quote
