Jake P Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 I started a new job last Monday and it started out well. This monday i was moved right as i got comfortable with my original position and the people im workin with now that are supposed to be training me i dont think they know what that means. I do something wrong and they get mad about it and hound me but do not tell me how to fix the problem so it doesnt happen again so i dont see what im doing wrong. Come to find out today i might be moved again next monday and have to learn a position. I just needed to vent a little becuase im really starting to get mad. I hope things change soon cause im getting tired of it. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Speak up for yourself Jake. Don't be afraid to say "I don't know how, teach me",..or even better,....TRAIN me! A new job is tough till you settle in and learn who's who. Keep your eyes and ears open but most importantly, if for safety sake only,....SPEAK UP if you have questions. I train at UPS and if I am not getting questions out of you, something is wrong. You MUST have questions or I will assume you are not getting it because there is no way you could if you haven't been questioning what I have been telling you. The way I teach, I put you in situations where I expect you to vocalize what you are thinking so I can guide you w/o holding your hand or doing the job myself. If they haven't been asking me questions, they very well may not make the cut. In our business, you WILL run into situations that you don't know the answer to. I need to know that you aren't afraid to express your concerns or the customer is the one who will suffer. If the customer suffers, the biz suffers. Good luck Quote
farmpond1 Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 I don't know the specifics of your situation but they need to stop shoving you from position to position. And they need to stop assuming you already possess the knowledge/skills to do the job. Or, at the very least, they need to stop getting huffy with every mistake you make. If it's as as you say, however, it may be a good thing if they are moving you again. I don't think I'd care to work where you're currently located. I'm with Low Budget Hookers. Speak up. Ask questions. If they are unwilling or unable to answer/address your questions and concerns, the responsiblity will at least lie with them. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted February 1, 2008 Super User Posted February 1, 2008 What exactly are you doing? Quote
fisherdave Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 Man sorry to here about your situation. I am have my own problems with my job too, so I feel your pain. FisherDave Quote
Super User Dan: Posted February 2, 2008 Super User Posted February 2, 2008 I kind of had a similar situation when I worked at Dick's. I knew how to do all the obvious stuff, stock shelves, move boxes, label prices...but they didn't do a good job teaching me the gun sales stuff. The solution is simple, just ASK QUESTIONS. Never just try to figure it out or be afraid to sound stupid by asking questions because if you do it wrong, you'll feel even dumber. It's much easier for you as the worker and for the employer if you ask how to do something and get it done right the first time instead of trying to do it yourself. Quote
Guest avid Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 I say get an uzi and really show em. ..... but seriously, you need to talk to the person who hired you, or the HR manager. Making a new employee feel welcome and training them are valued concepts in almost every company I ever worked for. It cost a surprising amount of money to hire someone and put them to work, before getting any return on that investment. Your hiring manager or HR person will appreciate the feedback provided it is not presented as bashing. Just calmly state that while eager to be of service to the company in whatever area you are needed, you are concerned that the lack of training is inhibiting your ability to be a productive member of the company. good luck. avid. P.S. don't respond in any way to rumors. Quote
