fish-fighting-illini Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 This isn't meant to be a brag location on where you've been. I mean it to be any place you've been that you find interesting. It can be far away or in your backyard, simple or elaborate. I tend to love the architecture of buildings and such but don't let that dicate your thoughts. Some places that come to mind...... 1. Montreal Canada. The buildings are awesome and very old. I didn't get a lot of time to see but it was cool. Plus the culture and even just the different signs and driving. 2. Lewisburg PA. The downtown area was incredibly interesting. Not a place you'd go out of the way for but still interesting. The houses are very old and very well kept. Old victorians with beautiful huge brass door handles. The street lights around town are very ornate and low level light. People who've been to Boston ( I haven't been) wouldn't be quite so impressed probably. The college nearby is Bucknell university which is very old and neat looking. Also had some really different shopping deal that tour buses flocked to. It had all kinds of scottish print throws and elaborate x-mas ornaments & unique custom belt buckles. 3. The town square near my house. Has some antique shops but the biggie is the old fashioned candy store. I take the kids mainly it has the orig old wooden floors and the individual glass containers with scoops. It's like being a kid all over again. 4. Niagra falls. Never thought I'd like it but it truely was a thing of wonder and beauty. 5. Mount Rushmore plus Yellowstone park. 6. Agusta Ga airport and the the Holiday inn there. The airport you land at is small but full of flowers just very down home and peaceful. The holiday inn also has lots of plants and flowers. Just very relaxing sitting around the pool. Quote
Evan Pease Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 I went to the Lunker Lodge in Bainbridge, GA twice to fish Seminole. I loved it. It was by far my favorite vacation. Ive also been to Buffalo, NY to see a concert but wound up fish Erie for half a day. It was great but our guide kept trying to get more money than e originally asked. Quote

Super User Long Mike Posted January 31, 2008 Super User Posted January 31, 2008 Where would you like for me to start? While working in the oil industry I lived all over the world. I've visited over thirty countries throughout Europe, West Africa. the Middle East and Asia. You can blindfold me, fly me to any of the above mentioned areas at random, and I, still blindfolded, could tell you what part of the world that I am in. Something you never experience on National Geographic is the smell or the humidity. The smell of an arid country is much different that the smell of a humid country. Phew! You know you are in a third world country because it, literally, stinks. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted January 31, 2008 Super User Posted January 31, 2008 Lake Powell is a gorgeous place. I have been there a couple of times and loved it. Crystal clear water, towering cliffs, and topless pleasure boaters. Alaska. as long as you are ten miles from Anchorage, you are in the most beautiful place I have ever seen. This is Kenai Lake, I have been here a couple of times I also spent quite a bit of time inland in the Glenallen area. Very remote and the King salmon fishing there is the stuff my dreams are still made of. Growing up in Colorado, the Rockies are still my favorite place to be though. This is Black Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park. It is a pretty tough 5mile hike that ends at almost 11,000 feet of elevation. I first made the hike when I was 10 years old and have been there a few times. It has some very large Rio Grande Cutthroat trout, but they are crafty. I have been quite a few places, but all of the coolest ones have water Quote

Masshole Mike Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 probably the coolest places i've been are paris and england. i enjoyed the attractions that paris had to offer, like the eiffel tower, the arc de triomphe (sp?), the louvre museum, mon sacre couer (sacred heart church), the notre dame cathedral, etc., however i thought the city was a dump and can honestly say you couldn't pay me to go back. the people were garbage over there, especially when they find out you're an american. england was amazing all around. we got to see stonehenge, windsor castle, buckingham palace and countless other memorable places. i was fortunate enough to be travelling with my girlfriend at the time, and she's actually a native of england and has family scattered all over the country, which allowed us to spend a lot of time in various locations. we spent one day with some of her family cruising down canal's in a canal boat which was a great experience. being able to divide time between her family allowed us to do a lot of stuff most "tourists" wouldn't be able to do. basspro48 Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 I've been all over the country, every state on the east coast, Texas, California, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Alabama. I've also been to Canada and several places in the Caribbean. However the most awesome place I have ever been was the Frank Church Wilderness area in the Idaho backcountry. I was fortunate enough to go there with my uncle and one of his buddies on a week long trout fishing trip. We flew into the bush amongst the forest fires and camped and fished along several small rivers and creeks for wild Cutthroat trout. here's a couple pics. Quote
Tpayneful Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Beg, borrow or steal enough money to go on Safari in Africa. I stayed at Chiawa camp on the Zambezi River in Zambia. You can go on game drives morning, noon or night. You can see lions, leopards, elephants, zebras, hippos, water buffalo, crocks and just about everything except rhinos or giraffes. The other thing you can do is go Tiger Fishing as well. Tiger fish look like a stripper with teeth like a piranha. They hit your lure at full speed....WHACK! It is a great fight. My wife loved it and we plan to go back when the kids are in high school. It was the best experience of my life! Quote

Branuss04 Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Over the last 3 or so years I've done some cool trips. Me and my parents went on a 2 week trip from sacramento, to salt lake city (Not much to see anymore). Then went to yellowstone (One of the coolest places ever, so much to see), down to denver, then to the grand canyon(you gotta do the donkey trip to the bottom), crossed over to las vegas(sin city for sure) and then back home. what a great trip. My last trip, which is to this day the best trip of my life, was to alaska on the Kenai Peninsula with my dad. One week fishing in the heart of alaska. What more could one ask for. Picture of our second day of Halibut fishing. I never knew fishing could be so exhausting. My dad fighting his 40#er. Nothing big, but the smaller one's like that are better eating My Kenai King Salmon. We hit the salmon run a couple weeks to late, but I was able to pick up a 30#. Then my avatar is another halibut trip in the cook inlet. Many Many more great pics, but you get the point. I wanna go back sooooo bad. We did meet up with the owners of the lodge we stayed at at a local the ISE here in sac and talked to them for awhile. They said they would give us a discount if we came back again. I was ready to give them my credit card the second they said that. Quote
