Ive been trying to find out what to do after high school (graduate in may) I've been accepted into colleges and I could go there get a degree in accounting. Perhap take the CPA exam pass it and be on my way.

However, I dont know if I want that life of sitten in offices all day crunching numbers.

I also wouldn't mind going to Technical school getting training in Industrial Engineer (although ITT-Tech only has 3 campus that offers this program.) and be an industrial engineer.

Everything I thought about I could see myself doing it.

I even consider going to this school in florida, there is another one in rhode island, but this school teach you to work on boat motor. Maybe I could learn to build boat motors and move to the bahamas or somewhere in florida and work on charter boats and bass boats. ;D Then maybe those guys take me fishing. ;D

I've consider a lot of things, I just dont know which road I'm most dedicated too.

Any suggestion on what I should do to decide what I need to do in order to make a deceison?

Tin was in the N.E. Tech school.  He was in the outboard motor program.  PM him for details.

Personally, I would rather crunch numbers.  Make your money with your brain, not your back.  If you had a self owned accounting biz, you could set your own hours ;)

Open- roughly 1-3 hrs after sunrise

closed-roughly 1-3 hrs before sunset

Yup, as LBH said, make money with your brain. The Marine and Automotive prgrams at New England Institute of Tech, where I went were ok, but I realize now that these schools are just there to pass you through and collect your money. Most don't prepare you for the outside. So now I'm back doing what I originally planned on doing, teaching. Another note, most technicial school's Gen. Ed's wont transfer.  So watch where you go.

Over 70% of college freshman change their majors these days, so just go to school and complete your Gen Ed's and hopefully by then you will have made up your mind.

You are in a spot that a lot of people struggle with.  And for some that question never really gets answered.  I bet there are people on this forum who are well into their careers and wonder everyday if that's what they should be doing.  I think that's just human nature.

I was in your shoes when I got out of high school.  I basically went to college not knowing what I wanted to do and got all the general stuff out of the way.  I eventually ended up going the Accounting route.  I mainly picked it because of the strong job market and that shouldn't change anytime real soon.  So there is a sense of job security if you go the Accounting route.  The last year or so I started exploring some of my other interest, but in the end I went back to Accounting.  I am in my last semester.  I can't say that I really enjoy it, but it is nice knowing that there should be a pretty good job for me after I graduate.

Hmm...

You would be MUCH better off becoming a professional athlete, movie star or rock star!

However, if those options are not in the cards, a college education is worth at least $1,000,000 in ADDITIONAL income over time. Is there a better option? Maybe military service for a few years. When you get out you will be head and shoulders above the crowd and I am SURE you will have a clearer picture of where you want to go with your life and career. The services turn boys into men in short order.

Good luck!

IF you have a dream that you are burning to pursue eg

bass pro, stand up comic, actor etc. then you absolutely MUST pursue it.

All this "get an education" is excellent, politically correct advice.

but if you have a dream and you don't pursue it NOW, you will kick yourself every time your boss sticks his nose in your cubicle.

HOWEVER.....what i'm hearing is "the doubts".

"do i want this....or do I want that"?

forget about the doubts.....they are nothing but obastacles that need to be overcome.

Get the accounting degree.  If your good, it has much income potential and you can move  virtually anywhere in the country with it.

It's really tough for a 17 or 18 year old kid to try and decide what he wants to do for the rest of his life.........

I have heard that places like uti and wyo tech also just push kids through. Right now iam going to school for autobody repair. The teacher is really hands on and teaches us well. For me nothing better then working a 40 hour plus work week and feel like you worked. I also feel a little better telling people what I do.

I agree with that one. I've seen it. Guy went in because he hated school, once he got out he went to college and now is a pharmacist.

I chose accounting because of the job secruity.

But you know there so many things I can see my self doing and be good at it.

I like to have a job where I can make the income to invest in my fishing dreams of fishing for a living. ;D.

I love to join the coast guard, but I cant due to hearing problems. That goes for all law enforcement and military.

Only bad thing about getting an accounting degree is the fact I hate some of classes you have to take. I just hate some bullcrap classes. Like all that pointless math class, foreign language classes, etc. I have to take those in high school just go down the university path.

Thing about industrial engineer though is..I'm in charge of how things are being run. IMO that is one fun job because it your responsibility to make sure they are being carried out. It a true business management test. IMO.

I can do accounting I've taken one accounting class in high school it was pretty cool, I just dont know if I can handle being in an office all day and blah blah. That why if I went that way I can get teh CPA license and work my own hours and my own clients, etc.

I guess I need take some time off and go fishing clear my mind and figure out what is best for me and if I truly enjoy to do that.

follow your heart, ive really never been a believer of taking time off to clear your mind because this is life and theres always something to rack your brain about, sometimes you just gotta do what you have to, hell you think i wanted to live in freaking UTAH  noway but i made a decision on my future cause i have a wife, and oneday im sure you will also so decisions you make or dont make now will have an impact on your future as well as others in your life. But the fact that you sound confident in going to college and knocking out a degree in accounting sounds like you already know what to do. sometimes you just gotta close your eyes and take a leap, if you get accustomed into taking time to clear your mind and lounge around then it will easily become a downfall and a excuse to just push something back. Like road warrior says go big or go home, you know what you have to do.

good luck ;)
