llPa1nll Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Hello!?! Are kidding me the 2001 Patriots vs the Rams (Greatest Show on Turf), nobody gave them a chance. I mean even John Madden was telling them to take a knee and wait for OT. Brady charged down the field and let #4 kick the GW FG. CLASSIC GAME!!! That was the year that the Patriots played Oakland in an AFC divisional playoff game with lots of snow. Brady went to tuck the ball and the ball was knocked loose resulting in a fumble which Oakland recovered with under two minutes left to play. The officials ruled that he was attempting a forward pass and it was incomplete, even though the replays showed it was obvious he was tucking the ball. The Pats score on that drive tied the game and sent it into overtime. Without the blown call they wouldn't have been in that Super Bowl. Here is the fact, its a rule not a blown call. If they dont like the rule then they need to change it, its what is on the books. Under the rule, a quarterback's throwing motion begins when he raises the ball in his hand and begins to move his arm forward; that motion doesn't end until the quarterback tucks the ball back against his body, making him a runner. If the ball comes loose any time in between, it's an incomplete pass, not a fumble. Only if the quarterback reloads -- and raises the ball again to start a new throwing motion -- can he fumble, as long as the ball is knocked loose before his arm begins to move forward again. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted January 29, 2008 Super User Posted January 29, 2008 You are absolutely correct, lPainl, as stated in Rule 3, section 21, Article 3 of the Official NFL Rulebook. I apologize for calling it a blown call because I know how you love your Boston teams. This rule wasn't implemented in the rule book until 1999 which is why there was so much controversy over the call because most of us weren't aware the rule had changed. I still think it is one of the most asinine rules they ever came up with. BTW, as a Chiefs fan, I was rooting for New England to win that game so this isn't a case of sour grapes. I just hate the rule. I also was rooting for the Steelers in the 2006 Super Bowl because I wanted the Bus to get his big win, but I hated some of the calls in that game that led to Seattle's demise. I like for my team to win, but not because of questionable officiating or rules. Oh well, you can't change history. Quote

Super User senile1 Posted January 29, 2008 Super User Posted January 29, 2008 lPAINl, I added a little to my previous post. I agree with you on the FG rule as well. Darn. I keep spelling your screen name wrong. Quote
tbird Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Dallas vs Pittsburg was two good ones. I like the RAms vs Titans, good game that came down to one foot line with time running out. The Carolina vs pats game came down to FG from Vinateri, last team with the ball won that game. Been some good ones, and some yawners. Those were the 2 best in my opinion. Quote
