I'm curious as to what everyone's ethnicity is on this board. Lots of diversity here.

Both of my parents were born in Michoacan, Mexico. I was born here in California.

But serisouly, my name is derived from a Czech name that had another 9 letters, but when my ancestors got to ellis island they shortened it.

The majority of my blood is Czech, Italian, and German. But I have some native American Indian in me, but not enough to get college or casino money ;D

Both grandparents on my fathers side where born in Slovakia and emigrated to the US, and my mother was born and raised in Ireland.  My mother was still a citizen of Ireland when I was born, which allowed me dual citizenship if I wanted to also get one from Ireland (don't know if that applies these days because of the EU rules).  I once looked into it in the early 80's and got the paperwork, but the Irish government wanted letters of recommendations from either a politician or a policeman, and a Catholic priest (so I was out of luck LOL).

I was born in Wichita, KS. All of my known ancestors were midwestern dirt farmers, predominately southeastern Kansas, northern Oklahoma and southwest Missouri. I am part of the first generation on either side of my family tree(s) not to be raised on a farm.

Let 's see, my dad was Puerto Rican son of Spaniards but as you know Spaniards have a little bit of everything in their blood  :, my mom is mexican, daughter of mexicans but we know that from her mother 's side they were Spaniards ( which have a little bit of everything   ), from her father 's side her grandfather was Russian and Russians like Spaniards have a little bit of everything.

I normally don 't discuss ethniticity ( touchy subject ) and less I can brag about my ancestry because being most of it Spanish we can 't be completely shure what you have in your blood. If you know the story of Spain you know what I 'm talking about.

HE 4 BIZ: Interesting point about names getting shortened at Ellis Islands. Many Italian Immigrants had their names changed to their town's names hence all the Messinas,Romas and Napoli's etc,,,,,

Which brings me to another point; A lot of Italian guys are named TONY because when they got to Ellis Island their luggage Destination tags were marked TO NY !!

My last name is Abbott and Mom's maiden name was Preston (origins would be British, I suppose).  Most of my family (at least three or four generations back) came from Arkansas via Tennessee.  Beyond that, I would assume that  they were settlers dating back to England somewhere.  On both sides there's an American Indian or two thrown in somewhere, too.

1/2 Japanese, 1/4 Polish, 1/8 Irish, 1/8 Danish.

My father is full Japanese, my mother and her parents were born in the States, but my mother's grandparents were immigrants from the above countries.

My last name is Kobayashi, like the guy in Usual Suspects (I'm so glad that it was a good movie otherwise I would cringe when everyone asks if I've seen the movie), the ex-world hot dog eating champ, and many other Japanese people.  It's the 5th most common name there.

Father's side of the family is from Russia.

The village they were from was destroyed during WWII.

We have a map showing where the village was and then on the new maps after 1946 the village was gone.

Mother's side of the family came down from Canada and settled in Louisiana and they became the Cajuns.

I had aunts who spoke French but they are gone, now.

In fact, everyone is gone, except me and my niece and nephew and their children.

But I still have the great memories of my Cajun grandmother cooking and telling me about superstitions.  And I am still supertious to this day.

Cajun here too.  My dad is from an English/French mix and my Mom is from Irish/French.  Dad's dad brought the English name to our otherwise, very swampy family.

My family is from North and South Carolina. My Grandfather Stokes is from around Darlington, SC. There are alot of Stokes' in around Darlington,Florence and Dillion Counties. I have been told our family moved Stokes clan also can to SC via Stokes County on the otherside of Winston Salem. My mother is a Melton and I do not know much about them past my Great grandfather who was 100 yrs old when he died in 1969. I do know that the Stokes clan originated in a town in England, with the same name.
