Mrs. Matstone Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 In February I will be going to work a booth at a sports show in Fredericksburg Va. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good fishing spots near that area. I don't know how much time I will have but I am not traveling all that way without fishing somewhere. Thanks. ;D Quote
Super User Micro Posted January 20, 2008 Super User Posted January 20, 2008 EEEK. In Febuary? It's gonna be cold. There is a decent chance everything will to be frozen. The Rappahannock River runs through Fredericksburg. Motts Run reservoir is in Frederiskburg. Those will be your closest options. Check this Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries website page: VDGIF Website Here is a pic of the Rappahannock River at the I-95 overpass in winter. Quote
Super User Tin Posted January 20, 2008 Super User Posted January 20, 2008 That is some weird colored water Quote
Super User Sam Posted January 20, 2008 Super User Posted January 20, 2008 One more suggestion other than my PM. Go to Southeast Bass Fishing and look for the VA Guys post. The Virginia guys have posted their two cents and you can contact them, or the ones that will be in Fredericksburg. And Tin, don't throw a match in the water!!!!! Quote
Super User Micro Posted January 20, 2008 Super User Posted January 20, 2008 Sam, what's the smallmouth situation like in the Rap in Fredericksburg in spring and summer? Quote
rondef Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 It could be tough, the lakes and rivers around here are starting to ice up. We are in a cold weather pattern for at least the next week or so. My son and I fish in Fredericksburg and had had good success fishing for SMBs. Send me a PM and maybe we can show you a few plces to fish if the cold weather pattern changes. Ron Quote
Super User burleytog Posted January 20, 2008 Super User Posted January 20, 2008 Must be all that BS coming downstream from Arlington/Fairfax/Loudon/DC and all that coming upstream from Richmond. :-X Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted January 20, 2008 Super User Posted January 20, 2008 Mrs. Matstone, you'd probably be better off hitting up the Gander Mtn. in Fredricksburg than fishing lol! ;D Quote
Super User Dan: Posted January 20, 2008 Super User Posted January 20, 2008 The only places near Fredericksburg that I know to fish are wading areas...Too bad because one of them has produced fish over 16" and up to 21" every time I go. Quote
Mrs. Matstone Posted January 20, 2008 Author Posted January 20, 2008 Thanks for the help guys. I am really hoping that I can manage a little time to do some fishing while I am down there. Quote
Super User Sam Posted January 20, 2008 Super User Posted January 20, 2008 Smallmouth around Fredericksburg in the Rapp is always good...in the spring, summer and fall. I would not take a chance going in the winter due to the ice and slippery conditions. There are guys on the site that fish the Rapp for smallies around Fredeicksburg so please ask them in the Southeastern Fishing board. I know they have a lot of good suggestions. Quote
