rondef Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Another award for the Patriots, well deserved. The Patriots are going to become the greatest team of all time when they finish the season 19-0. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22490207/ Quote
Super User Dan: Posted January 4, 2008 Super User Posted January 4, 2008 I don't care if his team went undefeated, I don't think you can give a coach of the year award to someone who was fined for cheating that same year... Quote

Super User Matt Fly Posted January 4, 2008 Super User Posted January 4, 2008 I think its only fair. the commish no longer allows players who tested positive or suspended for other reason to be "award eligible, like the probowl. But the honor was an AP award, thus not league generated. So this one he gets to keep! Asociated Press is stirring the pot. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted January 4, 2008 Super User Posted January 4, 2008 ^good point about it not being a league award, that does make a difference. Quote
mjhutch1116 Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 What a great message to the kids, cheat and still get rewarded for it. Activity of that nature should be grounds for suspension from the game. He is a disgrace. If his team does go 19-0 it will be forever tainted, people will never know if it was done the right way or if the guy just cheated more and was not caught this time. Matt Quote
Dean Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Guys, the pats would have been 16-0 even without cheating. Lets face it, they're good, im a pats fan, lifes great. All you haters go away ;D Quote
mjhutch1116 Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Maybe they would be maybe they would not be. We will never know because no one knows for sure if he was cheating on more games or not. matt Quote

Matt This is one of the many thingsabout football i don't understand. I am a huge baseball fan, and in our sport teams send out scouts to t watch the opposing teams, and one of their specific jobs is to get the other teams signals. The batter making it to second base; other than getting to third his job: get the signals. That is why the coaches and the catchers have more than one set of signal sequences PER GAME. What's the big deal, it is not like they are listening to each others headsets or ivading privacy. I just don't get that :-/ Quote
Super User Tin Posted January 5, 2008 Super User Posted January 5, 2008 And he was awarded it on Don Shula's birthday I'm sure in Belichick's mind that makes up for the comment about having an asterix next to the Pats record. Quote
mjhutch1116 Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 In baseball stealing signals is legal in football it is not, it is as simple as that. Quote
Super User Tin Posted January 5, 2008 Super User Posted January 5, 2008 Still dont know what was on that tape though. :-? Quote
Jake. Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Still dont know what was on that tape though. :-? Yeah, I'm sure it was a documentary film about the Jets stadium that just happened to be filmed while the Jets coaches were signaling to their defensive players, and the camera just happened to drift over and focus on them. Come on. : ;D READ THIS: http://www.secsportsfan.com/belichick-spygate-scandal.html Quote
rondef Posted January 5, 2008 Author Posted January 5, 2008 To all you haters, GIVE ME A BREAK. The tape was recorded in the first quarter and it was taken away from the Patriots in the first quarter. It is not like they gained a competitive advantage from this tape. The tape did not have any bearing in the outcome of the game. Get over it!!! The Pats are going to be the greatest team in NFL history when they win the Superbowl. Quote
Troutfisher Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 I bet he rigged up his cameras to determine who would win the award. Makes you wonder how many games he got away with before he was caught. Quote

You hit the nail on the head exactly. The man got caught once who knows how many times he did it before hand. The greatest team in nfl history who is coached by a proven cheater is how it should read and by the way they did not win the super bowl yet. Matt Quote
Big T Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 You can have all the tapes you want, and try to determine what the other team is doing but if your players do not execute then you do not a snow ball's chance of winning. The Patriots have excuted to perfection this year. Right now they are the best and until they are knocked off, then no one can complain about all the ackalades they are receiving. Big T Quote

As for Belichick being coach of the year, who else could have won it? Seriously? Quote
GeneinTX Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 We had a saying in the Army.... time spent in Reconnaissance is never wasted ( COL Kevin C.M. Benson, Colonel of armor), I personally feel that this is true in the sports arena as well. I know they don't get paid much to pay football though so they shouldn't have to change the way the play often or even have to change their signals. Poor dudes. The Pats earned their year. Quote
GeneinTX Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 And we all know AMERICANS love the underdog! Even though we haven't BEEN the underdog for a LONG time! Quote
Super User Tin Posted January 5, 2008 Super User Posted January 5, 2008 Ok so can anyone tell me the Pats record since "Spy-Gate"? And what was their average margin of victory? Quote
Big T Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Tin, I am with ya on this one. I am Redskins/Panthers fan but you have to admire perfection. Answer to your question, counting the spygate game 16-0, since then 15-0. Enough said, it is time for the rest of the NFL to put up or shut up. ;D Big T Quote
Guest muddy Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 In baseball stealing signals is legal in football it is not, it is as simple as that. I KNOW THAT, what I don't get is why, and don't think they all don't try Again I am not a football fan, i was just wonering why you can't and who is to stop the opposing team from looking across the field to try and catch something? Pond Hopper Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Still dont know what was on that tape though. :-? Hopefully one of Tom Brady's girlfriends if you get what I am saying ;D Quote
Super User Dan: Posted January 5, 2008 Super User Posted January 5, 2008 ^lol pond hopper. I recognize that the Pats' record is almost certainly not a result of cheating but the NFL fined Belichick for cheating. As a coach, he violated the rules set by the NFL, therefore, he should not be eligible for ANY league award. That being said, this was not a league award, so people can choose who they want (and the way the Pats have played makes Belichick a good choice) but it would be wrong to award a person who was punished earlier in the season for violating league rules.
