Fisher of Men Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Hey everyone, I'm kind of in college FB withdrawal right now. I am definitely ready to watch some bowl games. With only one week more to wait, I thought I'd post the bowl schedule and offer a place to discuss our favorite bowl matchups. I can't wait to get started. My team's bowl is highlighted in maroon. I haven't watched Penn State much this year. What do any of you PA boys have to say about the matchup with my Aggies? Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted December 14, 2007 Super User Posted December 14, 2007 I am in the same boat as you are with my team. Â I dont know much about A&M at all, other than they usually have some tough kids on their team. It should be a good one, possibly high scoring on our end depending on which Anthony Morelli shows up to the game. Hopefully, its the kid that whooped on Tennessee last year!!!!!! Wayne Quote
Fisher of Men Posted December 14, 2007 Author Posted December 14, 2007 Well, it's kind of hard to tell you about our team right now. For most of the season, we (Fran) relied on a triple option run using our QB Stephen McGee (very tough, lots of heart, average arm), RB Mike Goodson (4.3 40 speed, 200 lbs., quick but dances around too much), and our bruiser "J-train" Javorskie Lane (275 lb. Jerome Bettis- type runner). This offense was good at chewing up clock and scoring a modest amount of points. However, after losing three straight, in the Texas game, Fran opened up the offense to include great play from WR's and tight end Martellus Bennet (should go early in the '08 draft) to light up Texas' secondary. But, none of that matters, now. Our DC Gary Darnell has taken the controls of the team until Mike Sherman can come on board after NFL is over. Our defense will remain fair (not anything like the "Wrecking Crews" of yester-year), but better than the last two years. I really hope he keeps the offense opened up and let's it fly. I can assure you it will play like a home game in the Alamodome with 50,000 or so loud Aggie fans there. That place will be rocking. What have the Nitanny Lions been like this year? Â And do you think Jo Pa will hang it up soon? Gigem' Ags!! Â Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted December 14, 2007 Super User Posted December 14, 2007 Well, I am not so sure about the home game feel. PSU is one of the best traveling teams in the country and you can expect a number of fans to be there. We have been mostly defense oriented this year and we have a great one when everbody shows up to play. Â Dan Connor is a beast and was just voted all american LB. As far as Joe goes.....He can stay as long as he likes IMO. Â The guy is a living legend and, at 80 years old, still walks to the stadium on game day. Â I do feel he is stuck in the "old days" of college football. Â While running the ball and pounding teams into submission can still work sometimes, I think you have to be able to open up the offense a little bit and score through the air more efficiently. PSU has a stable of thoroughbred athletes just dying to show what they can do. Â Unfortunately, I dont think a lot of them get to show their potential because of the offensive scheme at PSU that seems unchanged in the last 20 years. Wayne Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 14, 2007 Super User Posted December 14, 2007 A&M vs Penn State should be a great game. I give the edge to the Aggies who have something to prove after their win over Texas and Coach Fran being run out of town. Close game but I think the Aggies will pull it out. Good luck. Quote
Fisher of Men Posted December 17, 2007 Author Posted December 17, 2007 Well, four more days. Any picks for the Poinsettia Bowl? I'll take Navy. Sam, I would have to favor your Tigers in Nawleans! I think Ohio State is over-rated. I would have liked to have seen OU play you guys. I think that would have been more of a challenge. Quote
rfrazier Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 certainly wasn't expecting my ducks to be in the brut sun bowl a month ago. WTH is Brut Sun!? Â :-/ Quote
Fisher of Men Posted December 17, 2007 Author Posted December 17, 2007 certainly wasn't expecting my ducks to be in the brut sun bowl a month ago. WTH is Brut Sun!? :-/ The bowl has traditionally been called the Sun Bowl (El Paso is on the border of Texas and New Mexico (hot, dry climate). Brut (I'm pretty sure) is a men's cologne company (like Old Spice). Quote
Fisher of Men Posted December 21, 2007 Author Posted December 21, 2007 O.K. One down, 31 more to go. This one seemed like a pretty good game (although distractions kept me from watching it in its entirety). I'm 0-1 on my pick so far. The big matchup for tonight is Memphis vs. Florida Atlantic in the New Orleans Bowl. Any thoughts on who will win this one? I'll go with Memphis although I really have no idea who will win. Where are our college football fans? I've heard nothing from you guys. Maybe some better bowl matchups next week will stir you up. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 21, 2007 Super User Posted December 21, 2007 Well, I don't know anything about Florida Atlantic, but Memphis is a terrible football team. The fact that they are in a bowl speaks volumes about the level of the teams in their division. Maybe just a step above high school ball or maybe not! Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted December 21, 2007 Super User Posted December 21, 2007 LET'S GOOOOO WVU! So TF, how does it feel to have a beat down coming your way? Quote
Fisher of Men Posted December 21, 2007 Author Posted December 21, 2007 LET'S GOOOOO WVU! So TF, how does it feel to have a beat down coming your way? Aaaah, let the trash talking begin !! Isn't America great? Â Quote
Troutfisher Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 LET'S GOOOOO WVU! So TF, how does it feel to have a beat down coming your way? We've won BCS games before, we don't INTEND on losing. Â We have the lightning quick Patrick White, power runner Owen Schmidt, and the combined forces of Steve Slaton and Noel Devine. Â Combine that with one of the most improved defenses in the nation, and we have a GUARANTEED victory. Â 8-) Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted December 21, 2007 Super User Posted December 21, 2007 I did my homework on this one. QB- Sam Bradford - Rating 180.5 | YDS 2,879 | TD 34 QB- Pat White - Rating 150.1 | YDS 1,548 (1185 rush)| TD 12 (14 rush) By the way, it's Owen Schmitt RB- Steve Slaton - 210 carries 1053yards 17 TD RB- Allen Patrick - 158 carries 927 yards 8 TD RB- DeMarco Murray- 127 carries 764 yards 13 TD RB- Chris Brown - 142 carries 561 yards 8 TD Â Â Â WV points scored this season - 467 OU points scored this season - 564 OU beat #1 Mizzou(twice) WV lost to PITT(5-7) Big East - 6 bowl eligible teams (WV, Cinncinati, UCONN, SF, Rutgers, Louisville) BIG XII - 8 bowl eligible teams (OU, Mizzou, Kansas, Colorado, Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, OSU) Just don't go cryin home to momma when you get your butt spanked. 8-) Quote
Troutfisher Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Looks like your team slipped a little bit as well! Texas Tech? C'mon! A little 8-4 team shouldn't have a problem for the big, bad Sooners! And Colorado, who was 6-6? That should have been an EASY win for a team that could beat Missouri! Oh! Speaking of Texas teams, that brings back another little flashback! Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted December 22, 2007 Super User Posted December 22, 2007 How old is that photo? 5...6 years ago? 8-4 is a little better than 5-7 Maybe we should make this intresting, heh? Â Why don't you put your pride were your mouth is? It's time for the little east to play with the big boys. Â At least we still got a coach Quote
Troutfisher Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 AT LEAST YOUR COACH ISN'T A SELLOUT AND RUNS AWAY WHEN HE CAN'T WIN A GAME! The Pitt game was because Rich Rod's head was in the clouds with the possible Michigan coaching job. We'll see Jan. 2 bud, Jan. 2. Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted December 22, 2007 Super User Posted December 22, 2007 A sellout? The Oklahoma position is the first Head Coach position for Stoops. Â Before he was a defensive coordinator at KSU and Florida. Â Get your facts straight bud. I'LL BE THERE. <this is trash talking at it's finest. Â I kinda like it ;D> Quote
Troutfisher Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Well see what happens! <I also like this  > Quote

The fact that they are in a bowl speaks volumes about the level of the teams in their division. Maybe just a step above high school ball or maybe not! I guess you called that one right. FAU-44 Memphis -27 There's three bowl games today: Papajohns.com - Southern Miss. v. Cincinnati New Mexico- Nevada v. New Mexico Las Vegas - UCLA v. BYU I'm eager to see the Mizzou v. HOGS game and, of course, the SOONERS play the mountaineers. Quote

RiskKid. Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 I think my Vols should be playing Florida State in the Animal House Academicly Ineligible Bowl  Quote
Super User Tin Posted December 22, 2007 Super User Posted December 22, 2007 Oklahoma and the Mountainqu.. will be a good game but I think the one to watch will be the Sugar Bowl. Hawai'i has a lot to loose. And I don't think Georgia wants to loose to the Rainbow Warriors. lol. Quote
Fisher of Men Posted December 24, 2007 Author Posted December 24, 2007 Six down, 26 to go. Gig'em Aggies!! Quote
