Guest muddy Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 Wow: On Christmas Eve a Mr.Davis a former security guy at my job, passed in his sleep. He was in his 80's a WWII vet, and a Marine, he would visit evry night I worked for some coffee and we spent a l,ot of time talking, I learned a lot from this guy. May he Rest in Peace. Last night I got a call, a manager of a different Dept. came home from work, drove into his driveway and ate his revolver,he left a wife and 4 little ones behind. The pressure has been great at work, and a lot of times you can see a guy gettin uptight, but this seemed to come out of no where. I pray for his soul and his family. It opened my eyes a bit, I have to stop letting this job own me the way it does. If I am meant to be somewhere else, and the center gets closed down , then I have to ride the tide and figure out where I am needed elsewhere. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 Sad stuff Muddy. Condolences for your friends. Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 29, 2007 Super User Posted December 29, 2007 That's terrible. With all the mental health services available today it is so sad to hear someone just can't take it anymore and they take drastic actions. Stay strong, Muddy. Quote
slomoe Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 Sorry to hear about your friends Muddy. The universe will unfold as it should, and you will be where you need to be. Just keep you head up and heart open. Quote
Guest muddy Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 Mr.Davis had been ill for well over a year, when he left Job Corps, he still kept a part time job, but would visit us daily. He got the grace of passing in his sleep. Glen, the other fella was not showing any signs of anything, many calls this AM, everyone trying to make sense of it all. Thanks for your input fellas, Life is always good, some days just harder than the rest. It is really his family going through the most. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted December 30, 2007 Super User Posted December 30, 2007 Muddy, the lost of friends is inevitable. Unless, you go first, the older you get, the more friends you will lose. It's always very saddening but it's a part of life. As for your job, and the pressures on you, I want to tell you two of the rules by which I live my life. 1. This is very important. If you have a situation that concerns you, but you can do NOTHING to help correct it, then stop worrying about it. Life is to short to worry about a problem you can't fix. 2. Regarding your job, I will tell you something I used to tell all of my employees. You owe your employer a days work for a days pay. Nothing more. Your employer owes you a days pay for a days work. Nothing more. Always remember that you work for a company, not an individual. With few exceptions, companies are faceless entities that look at nothing more than the bottom line. They will always strive to get the individual to give more than a days work for a days pay. It is incumbent on every worker to demand more pay when the company demands more work. Quote
