luckyinkentucky Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 We bought another German Shepherd pup from a breeder around 3 weeks ago. He showed us papers on the mother and father and both were present, but stated that the AKC hadn't gotten his litter registration back to him yet, and that he would get it to us in the mail the following week. A couple of weeks went by, and I called him and left a message. That evening he got back to me and said the papers were on his desk, and that the AKC had just gotten them to him that day. He then said he would mail them the following day. It is now a week after he promised to mail them, and we still haven't received the papers to register her. Needless to say our patience is running thin with this man. What should we do? It seems, at this point, that he is giving us the runaround on our $800 pup! Quote
mattm Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 The mail is slow right now. Assuming it hasn't been over a week since he said he had mailed them I would be frustrated, but cut him a little slack. If its been more than a week I would call and give him another call. Then give him another week and call about returning the pup. Quote
CGH Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Hello the checks in the mail and ..... Mail is slow but not that slow If it was me I would have gotton that as soon as i turned over my $800. But in your current situation I would go see that fellow and have him put them papers in my hand. Quote

farmpond1 Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 It's sooo difficult, sometimes, to know if someone is giving us the runaround. I've experienced it and I've gotten hosed before, too. (I'll refrain from telling my story). I don't blame you if your hackles are raised. I suspect you are being hosed. Is this breeder licensed? How did you hear about him? Call the so and so and inform him that you are going to contact the Better Business Bureau, the AKC, the local chamber of commerce, and the local police if you don't receive the papers immediately. Tell him you will pick them up or instruct him to send them by registered mail. > Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 this is the second time I've heard this situation this year. One lady I work with went through the same thing. I dont think she got the papers. Not sure though I dont want to ask. I have learned that if I buy a "registered" dog I will want the papers before I hand over the dough. I would go with farmpond. I also dont have any patience for being yanked around. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 20, 2007 Super User Posted December 20, 2007 If you happen to have any friends in law enforcement, you might ask them to give you a lift over to the breeder's house. The officer doesn't need to "be involved", he can just remain in his Police Vehicle outside. For some reason this almost always gets the attention of potential troublemakers. I suspect you can get this matter resolved right then and there. Quote
Cajun1977 Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 first i would call him one more time and askm if he mailed them yet cause you have to get it straightened out soon, if he says yes then i would give it a week...if he says no then i would ask him to bring you the papers if he is in driving distance or if you could come pick them up, theres no need to have a cop drive you to someones house,do you really wanna be the guy who has to be protected by cops to get some papers, but im sure everything will turn out for the best Quote
slomoe Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Sounds like a back yard breeder to me. Your lucky the dog didn't have parvo. You could call animal control but its probably something you'll have to settle in small claims court or something. Quote

Example on what I have seen this past two weeks Good friend Doug I hunt with, his mom had a spot on her lung, they found it after she recovered from puemonia, Last Monday they found out it was cancer and it was also in here liver Ol' Boy Jeff from work was peed off last Tuesday, Got into it with his wife night before, Wednesday morning I asked him how'd the make up go-he said not good, we for gave each other for the stupid argument, her sister called her and told her she has breast cancer Found out this morning Mike from our Church, his house burnt down, man he just recovered from a broken hip too This time of the season others slow down do to missed loved ones as well. There could be more to it, but, I'd believe you made the deal and you believed the man was good for his word some how. I'd try to work with it more. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted December 21, 2007 Super User Posted December 21, 2007 Beat his bass. Why do people need more than 2 chances to do the right thing? Quote

Guest avid Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Beat his bass. Why do people need more than 2 chances to do the right thing? Yeah dude, Get the puppy posse together and BEAT HIS BASS!!! Quote
rondef Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 I went through a similar situation a couple of years ago with my Min Pin. The solution is real simple, tell him that you will be filing a formal complaint with the AKC and that you will be asking them to revoke his breeders license. The AKC takes issues like this seriously and they will asist you to straighten out this problem. You will need the breeders name and address to file the complaint. I got my paperwork almost immediately after using this tactic. Good Luck!!! Quote
Big T Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 I am not really a breeder by trade, however I have bred my labs twice and the last time my wife was able to register the litter on line. Sounds to me like he either has not reigtered the litter or AKC will not register the litter for some reason. I know that the AKC will not register litters from a female that has had litter of mix breed puppies, even if the new littter is pure bred. Funny rule. If he is a breeder I would just turn it over to AKC and the local better business burea. Big T Quote
