Does anyone use IE Defender to prvent viruses.  That advertisement keeps popping up on my screen everytime I click onto a site.  Been going on for days now and driving me crazy.  It says my computer is infected with a bug.

I had one jump on my PC Saturday night. This virus was named Down Loader. My whole system went into Alert status. This is the first time this has ever happened to me, when it showed the name of the virus.

My PC must be setup right because it deleted it or something.

most popups like that contain spyware that installs when the ad is clicked, go to www.downloads.com and get AVG free and use the popup blocker built into IE ( firefox has its own and blocks them automatically). that should be secure enough to protect your system.

www.webroot.com

Spysweeper is one of the best you can get. Easy to use and great detection rates.

I use AVG, I run Spybot every once in a while, and CCleaner to clean up every once in a while also.

its also a VERY good idea to keep your updates on. I had a pretty bad virus last month, and after an update, it disapeared.

AVG is good as far as free anti-viruses go but if you really gotta shell out some dough if you want to have the best protection.

For protection from spyware and virus, I would definitely go with AVG. I just bought a new computer and the tech installed a 30 day trial of AVG's MalWare program. Super program and I purchased a two year subscription after trying it out. $44 for two years vs $60 for one year of Norton. I'd avoid Norton and McAfee like the plague. Had Norton on my last machine and it slowed it horribly.  To read more about AVG, go to www.grisoft.com  .
