Super User fourbizz Posted December 15, 2007 Super User Posted December 15, 2007 I ran down to the fishing store today to pick up some floats for tomorrow and on the way back I saw something that was just too funny. At the particular exit I was on, the on and off ramps run right next to eachother on one side. And they are the banking turn type with two lanes. As I went down the on ramp I could see traffic backed up a little bit on the on ramp. I finally realized that what I was seeing was a full size cargo container. They use them on cargo ships, rail cars, and they set down on top of a semi trailer. You know the ones? Welll this particular container had slid off the semi trailer as it was rounding the off ramp. The semi was pulled off to the side and so was a truck that looked like it had clipped it a little, but not too bad. But the sight of this cargo container just sitting in the middle of the off ramp with the highway patrol standing around quite literally scratching their heads made me laugh for a couple of miles. I wish I had a picture. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted December 16, 2007 Super User Posted December 16, 2007 That container had your X-mas gift in it that was on its way to UPS to be unloaded. LOL Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 16, 2007 Super User Posted December 16, 2007 Fourbizzle, Great story. As I drive around Virginia and Maryland (45,000 a year) I see lots of stuipd and strange sites. Other than getting upset at the traffic jam, I bet seeing that cargo container on the road would have made me glad that I was now out of the traffic but the poor folks behind me are now going to have to just sit there until it is unloaded and loaded in another container and then moved. Super User Tin Posted December 16, 2007 Super User Posted December 16, 2007 Used to work at the landfill in RI. Used to have roll-off dumpsters go right off the truck when they were traveling up the hill. Crazy stuff Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted December 16, 2007 Super User Posted December 16, 2007 ;D That would have been a site to see. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted December 17, 2007 Super User Posted December 17, 2007 Funny stuff. I can recall traveling through Chatanooga, TN in the fall of 1998 and up in the mountians there is a steep downgrade with a run off. I was going about 70mph and a semi comes flying by me. It pulls off to the right side and I could see that his breaks were smoking. About 30 sec later I see parts of the truck everywhere over on side of the mountian. I heard later that the guys brakes had failed, he tried to stop by hitting the runoff head on but he ended up going straight through it. Oddly enough the guy was haulling mattresses and when he hit the run off the back of his truck exploded but the truck itself went airbourne. He landed on a pile of matress, he was not wearing a seatbelt and walked away with minor cuts and bruises. Quote
bassboy1 Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 Dad and I were headed somewhere, and we saw a tractor trailer roll off dumpster truck make a turn pretty quick. The dumpster flipped off the truck, and dump its contents, a load of nice dark dirt (great for gardens - most of what we have is red clay around here) all over the road. When we get up there, he is pulling off to the side of the road, and the dumpster is hanging off the left side, being drug only by the winch. Ya know, those things have safety chains, to keep them attached to the truck. It has always bothered me to see a dumpster truck driver back up to the dumpster, attach the winch, pull it up, tilt it down, and drive off. Meanwhile, the safety chains are just dangling lazily. =Matt 5.0= Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 That container had your X-mas gift in it that was on its way to UPS to be unloaded. LOL UPS calls them TOFC (trailer on flat car) Quote
Panamoka_Bassin Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 In my hometown, here's a low train bridge that some truck driver gets stuck under once a year, at least. Backs traffic up for miles... Not really funny, but kinda funny in an "oooooo" kinda way... Quote
Shad_Master Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 My boss came to work this morning and told about being behind a tow truck towing a car. Apparently the rear wheels locked up and the tires were smoking - she called the company on her cell phone to let them know. Quote
slomoe Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Last year, on my way home from work, at one of the intersections there was a U-Haul sized truck overturned. The driver spilled crates of wine onto the roadway. I mean Hundreds of bottles. The police were sweeping up the glass and the wine just went into the storm drain. Quote
basspro48 Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 This reminds me of something i saw a couple years ago on the way home from a baseball tournament. I was with my dad and we got stuck in a jam for about 45 minutes, when we finally got up the road far enough to see what was wrong I couldn't help laughing out loud. A flatbed carrying a load of watermelons had driven into the ditch and flung the watermelons all over the road, I mean there were smashed watermelons EVERYWHERE... Quote
