Super User Redlinerobert Posted December 15, 2007 Super User Posted December 15, 2007 According to their calendar, the Maya (a very advanced ancient civilization) believed that the world would end on Dec 21, 2012. Of all the dates put forth by prophets and various other advanced cultures for a doomsday, this is one with an authentic almost eerie feel to it. NASA predicts that the Sun will also reverse its own magnetic poles during 2012 as result of reaching the end of the current 11-year sunspot cycle. book Apocalypse 2012: A Scientific Investigation into Civilization's End by Lawrence Joseph reviews a number of 2012 predictions made by various sources, and presents arguments for the possible existence of dangerous positive feedback loops involving solar storms, Earth's magnetic field, cosmic rays, hurricanes, global warming, earthquakes, and supervolcanoes that may be on the verge of erupting. what will happen? Guest muddy Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 Hey Redliner; I do not go by prophets, religous texts, or scientific journals I live life a day at a time, and if soething rock solid comes my way scientifically and I know me doing something will help, then I do my part. Everything else causes way too much fear and anxiety, me and all my loved ones are only here for a certain amount of time, I try to love them as much as I can daily> Everything else, has a slant or a reason to put fear , guilt and manipulate behavior Quote

michbass Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 I read an end of the world theory book called 5-5-2000. It pretty much said the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn will be aligned with the Earth and her Moon. On that day the ice at the South Pole will upset the Earth's axis--sending trillions of tons of ice and water sweeping over the surface of our planet. Needless to say it didn't happen was interesting theory though. Well good read when you have free time Can't worry about what you can't control I guess is what I have always thought. Quote

NJBassDevil3254 Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 They never said the world was going to end on Dec. 21st 2012. Thats when their calender stopped. They didnt continue after that. It doesnt mean the world is going to end on that day. Maybe they got tired of making the calender and just called it quits on that date knowing that they will never make it that far anyways. Quote

moby bass Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 My son watched some kind of a movie in school about 2012, with a following discussion of some sort. He came home from school, extremely upset, worried and wondering what the point is of continuing to plan for a future. Took me days to reassure him no one knows if and when and that we have to live our lives as though we are all going to live to an old old age. He would only be 2 years out of school in 2012. Heavy duty stuff to lay on a young kid. They don't need to worry about things like that. I'm getting real tired of people like Algore and others playing on everyones fears, especially young kids. They are already being robbed of their childhood. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted December 16, 2007 Super User Posted December 16, 2007 Robert, were you trying to learn something from your post, (e.g. data gathering) or were you trying to make some sort of point? With all due respect, this sort of post achieves nothing. Tomorrow, I'm going to post that the Farmers Almanac predicts that the world will end on January 12, 2008. I may or may not receive a response, but I hope all responses quote Shakespeare to me "... A tale told by an idiot. Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." There is an old adage. If the shoe fits, wear it. I think the shoe will fit both of us tomorrow. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted December 16, 2007 Author Super User Posted December 16, 2007 I don't necesarily agree with what the Mayans say Mike, I just thought it was interesting what civilizations from the past have to say about the future. In all honesty, I agree with Ronnie's post. I've always been a fan of this sort of stuff, really makes you think what these ancients would have acheived had their learnings and technology continued to develop. Where would we be by now....
