Guest avid Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 I need to improve my fitness, but have no inclination to buy any machines. I know walking is the best, and I have begun a program of daily walks, but I need to gain fitness in a more general way. What are some of the fitness routines you have used or heard about? thanks, avid. Quote

Guest avid Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 Sorry I didn't make myself more clear. I'm looking for a complete program that people may have tried. For example, I have heard about fitness programs that are used by some of the branches of the armed forces. I wouldn't even begin to dream about a Marine or Paratrooper fitness program. What about the boy scouts. Or better yet the girl scouts? :-/ Quote
michbass Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 You could do this below which is what I do when traveling in my hotel room when there isn't a gym around. It may sound easy put do it several times and it is a good workout. 1) Prisoner Squat (12 repetitions) 2) Elevated Pushups (8 reps per side) 3) Single-Leg Deadlift (10 reps per side) 4) Close-grip Pushups (As many reps as possible) 5) Jumping Jacks (30-60 reps) 6) Cross-Body Mountain Climber (12 reps per side) then repeat several times. Also do a search for " Craig Ballantyne " on you tube he has a ton of videos on body weight and other simple exercises. Here is on here: or even easier and no equipment needed Quote
Super User Dan: Posted December 15, 2007 Super User Posted December 15, 2007 avid, lots of people work well with structured workouts, but man people drop them because of the boring nature of repeating the same workout everytime. I would try some of the stuff that people have mentioned to you but also try to mix things up, its much easier to stick with working out that way. Also, the two best ways to get in shape are eating better and cardio, make sure you put them first, otherwise anything else you do is worthless. Quote
Pond Hopper Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 Get a few sets of light dumbbell weights and then go to the mens fitness website and find some exercises to do with those light weights. Curls, squats, shoulder presses, there are a ton of things you can do with light weights(especially being a more seasoned gentleman who has come off of surgery) that should help to maintain and build muscular endurance and also help in the shoulder rehab. Therabands are also a good option for older or rehabbing people as you are less likely to cause any injuries. Quote
