If some one would post what the LOL and all that other short hand is I would appreciate it.

I'm only 30 and don't know half of it.  Most of Fishtank's I have no idea.

Just a sample

LOL - laugh out loud

ROFL - rolling on floor laughing

AFAIK - as far as I know

TMI or 2MI - too much information

IDK - I don't know

How about looking a word up in the dictionary instead of using spell check?

I never really understood this one.  Try finding phone in the dictionary if you are trying to spell it phonetically (there's another one).

As for literature of this era.... previous generations will be known for Catcher in the Rye, To Kill a Mockingbird, 1984, my generations' will be Harry Potter

I hate to say it but, I really like the Harry Potter series.  I have read all the books a couple of times and I have even listened to them on CD.  The guy, Jim Dale, who narrates the stories is fantastic.  His translation of the characters' voices and personalities have influenced how the movies are made.

Cool stuff.

THIS guy likes to argue more than I do!!!!!11 I am from Brooklyn so the correct use of English is a complete mystery to me.

Mike you make a great point, but I have worked with teenagers and young adults for going on 13 years now, even though you mean well, SAVE YOU BREATH :-/

Ok, I was wrong. After seeing FishTanks link, English is really going downhill, lol That is disturbing. I'm still considered a teen and dont know 90% of those terms.

Lack of capitalization,(at the beginning of a sentence and proper names)

Check your username lately?    ;) ;)

Big difference between a screen name on a forum and writing for communication.

I just looked at that link and I didnt even know 95% of those. I'm 18 year old with text message. I just type out the entire word. They dont even charge me base on how many words I text.

I'm a 16 year old without text messaging.  I don't get it, it's a phone people.  You call (i.e. talk to) people on the phone...or maybe I'm just jealous because I can't move my fingers that fast.

We, of the sophisticated nature, are a rare find in the ignorances of today's society. 8-) ;)

Comparing To Kill a Mokingbird with Harry Potter is akin to comparing Miles Davis to the Beatles>DIFFERENT PLANETS MAN!!!!!!! ::)

Never again will I publically chastise any individual who chooses to post on this site who, through ignorance, laziness or stupidity, butchers our beautiful English American language. All who frequent this site know that this is the one thing that really raises my hackles. Henceforth, I shall remain silent regarding the atrocities I witness - with one exception. It has to do with the shorthand of text messaging. Teeners have their own board on this site. If you want to type in "teener" language, please to it on your board. The rest of us who frequent this site are adults and we have tried very hard to properly learn the art of spelling, capitalization and punctuation. Please give us a break. If you want to post here, try to do it as an adult.

You spelled "do" wrong.

You folks who caught my spelling errors are absolutely right.  That said, anyone who follows my occasional tirades knows that I have never posted any negative comment for an occasional spelling error.  Typos happen all the time.  Often, spell checkers don't catch them.  For example:  " Deer Sir, I have herd that you recently sold your heard of dear."

publically is not a typo. It most certainly isn't a great demonstration of your mastery of the "American" language either.

But while we are on the subject people,    ... <------- that is called an ellipsis, please use it with thrift. when there are 75 periods in a 50 word response, THAT IS ANNOYING!

Wil, I wisk you guys could spel and punktueate...butt on thiese forem, you can getaway witth allmostes anythang ifan youre polight.

So, I'm ACTUALLY onboard with Long Mike, his advice will prove helpful in other endeavors. However, on this Forum, we do not enforce a particular code. Proper English is preferred, but YOUR language is tolerated as long as it is not vulgar or offensive.

Geez, Fourbizzle, please accept my deepest apologies for my lapse. I mispelled a word and did not use my spell checker! I AM SO EMBARRASSED THAT I COULD JUST PUKE. I AM GOING TO STEP OUTSIDE AND HAVE MY DOG GIVE ME FORTY LASHES WITH A WET TONGUE.

Does that make you feel any better? If not, how about this?

I WAS WRONG! I MADE A MISTAKE! I AM FALLIBLE!
