Government says that tobacco is addictive.

Government subsidizes tobacco farmers.

Government is The Pusher Man!

In our great state of Texas, they just increased the cig tax to pay for childrens health care.....

The state calls it a sin tax.

The state basically said to sin for the childrens sake.

The state also hopes it drives people to quit.

See the irony!

Goverment will find anything to put tax on. It just a cruel world we live in.

BTW. There is more then one way to die. That all I'm saying. Just long as you have no regret and live your life to the fullest.

I don't care how you feel about smoking - to call your Dad an idiot is pretty poor.

Sorry George, but sitting in the hospital while they operate on your dad and then being in the room when the doctor says that there is ONE thing that he HAS to do to fix the issue and that is to stop smoking, otherwise he'll be back on the table in a couple years and hopefully it's just surgery again.  Then continuing to smoke means that in this instance my dad is being an idiot.

My Father came here from Italy, fought against Italy and was an American war hero in WWII, and then worked his whole life to get his own Italian American Butcher Shop and a Pizzaeria, literally worked 7 days a week most his life. He bought us our own house, sent us to parochial school. He had 2 heart attacks and smoked literally til the day he died, against doctors orders. MY DAD WORE THE SHOES I COULD NEVER FILL , AND I WOULD NEVER EVER CALL HIM AN IDIOT. His smoking was the direct cause of his demise, and I love and miss him every day. I respect his decsion to live and die on his own terms. As I look at it people in our l;ives are here by grace and they are never here to be permanent. I find it sad that anyone would call their dad an idiot.

That's fine with me, you're free to have any opinion that you wish.  Just as I am to wish that my dad would listen to his doctor so that he would have the best chance possible of living to watch his own children grow up (2 are still in school) and get married and be there to know his grandchildren.  My grandpa (his dad) died of a heart attack before he was even 60.  He missed seeing many of his grandchildren and even some of his own children grow up.

Just want to add that my dad is only 54.

Have smoked for a number of years and have always been considerate of folks who don't. As far as MY health is concerned, as Hank Williams said in a song "no one gets ought of here alive"...

Everybody just take a deep breath and chill.

Smoke if you want to, it's your right.  Just don't infringe other people's rights as well.  My dad smokes, and it bothers me, but it's not that big of a deal.  This is the kind of argument that nobody can win.

Anyone who tries to smoke around my fiancee or unborn son will be an ex-smoker quite soon.

Respect is sadly lacking in the younger generation these days.

Pathetic really.  I'm glad I didn't grow up that way.

HA! ha!

For those that are SOooo smarter than us and notice that we are killing ourselves

Muddy your killing yourself?????????????????????? P-L-E-A-S-E spare me.

It is very sickning to see you act more intellect than a smoker, you heartless Butt wipes. This goes along with "we can't fix the problem so we'll make honest hard working free Americans suffer for it as well by passing a law" And that makes me SOoo smarter than you :P Guns kill-then lets ban them, smoke hurts then lets tax it, make drugs from over the counter drugs then lets discourage purchases.

You are the criminal, taking our free rights from us.

We all take a path to death some faster than others and some help themselves faster by habits, Smoking, sky diving, fishing below freezing etc.

You wooses, you have it sooo easy now a days, can't think for yourself then make a law for me so I know where to stand-give me a limit, give me a limit-wah, wah! :'(

cig butts on the ground bother you???? Holy carpfish batman!

And if you let a man blow smoke in your face, then I know, lets pass a law for it!

Cry Babies

As for having sympathy---me???

Well I have common sense to know cigs causes cancer and they are one of the hardest thing to a drug to quit, and the tabacco industry thrived on making it addicting even more, My dad is a throat cancer survivor(praise God) and he smoked all his life and has put them down sense the treatments.

Don't get me started on coffee, Coffee is usually hot, morons-don't burn yourself.

and senkos Suck, woops I think I went to far finally, sorry---senkos are super ;D

my ONLY problem with smokers, is when i'm in a restraunt or diner and there are people smokin it up and i can smell the smoke.... thats the last thing i want to smell when i'm eating. i think it is rude and ignorant....i like how steak n' shake has made their "buisy times" into "no-smoking" times.

Here is my thoughts on this topic.........

IMHO, if you want to smoke go ahead.  You have every right to and when someone says "You shouldn't smoke, it's bad for your health.", you have every right not to listen.  But when you smoke for a life time please think of the people whom care and love you.  It is an addiction that effects everybody.

Here are the people I mourn that smoked all their lives.....

Grandfather: Dead at 53, I never knew him. Lung Cancer

Grandfather #2: Dead at 60.  Liver Cancer

Godfather: Dead at 57.  Lung Cancer.  He almost burned his house down.  He was found on the bathroom floor.   Blood and Urine put out the newspapers that he had set on fire when he collapsed.

Uncle: Dead at 54. Lung Cancer

Uncle: Dead at 48. Lung Cancer

Aunt: Dead at 64. Leukemia

Uncle: Dead at 69.  Battled Skin Cancer for years.

Cousin: Dead at 47.  Throat and Lung Cancer

My Dad's Friend: Dead at 54.  Lung Cancer.  Knew him all my life.

My Best Friend's Father: Dead at 58. ? Cancer.

6 co-workers: Cancer

In my wifes Family

Grandfather: Dead at 71.  Smoke and drank until the day they put him the hospital.  He died 5 weeks later.  Tough old guy.

Uncle: Dead at 53.  Lung Cancer

Grandfather #2:  Dead at 65. Lung Cancer.

People that have cancer because of smoking:

Father in law's Girlfriend

Mother in law: Breast cancer surviver

Co-Worker: Breast Cancer.  She is currently in the hospital.

And as of recently, my wife has a lump in chest that my have been brought on by 19 years of second hand smoke (According to the Doctor).

So I guess, do what you want to yourself if you smoke.  But for me personally, I am tired of the funerals and trips to the hospital.  When I watched my grandfather die, he said it best ,  " I want to die from laughter not from this."  Oddly enough when he officially passed away, I was 8 years old and the only one in the room because all the other family members there, were outside smoking.
