Troutfisher Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Well, who will it be? The formidable LSU Tigers, whose only 2 losses have been in triple overtime, or the Buckeyes, who have only loss 1 game? My vote is for the Buckeyes, but it will be a tight game regardless. Quote
Big T Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Ohio State will win, I think this whole Les Miles staying/going crap plus this new story of Bo Pelini being hire at Nebraska and wehter or not he stays to coach the defensewill prove to be a big distraction for LSU. However I really do not like either team, I will be watching USC play in the Rose Bowl. Big T Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted December 3, 2007 Super User Posted December 3, 2007 Don't like Ohio State. Gotta go with the SEC and LSU. Quote
tallydude Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 I think the only think that will hurt LSU is the distractions over their coaching staff. Losing Pellini can't help and the Michigan speculation can't help either. That being said, LSU should still be able to beat an Ohio State team that played NOBODY this year. Oh, until there's a playoff at the end of the year, all of the bowl games are nothing more than glorified exhibition games. Quote
Pond Hopper Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Hawaii, oh wait that is not an option : I really do not see why the little guy never gets a chance to make a statement...neither of these teams have proven to anyone that they are the best team in the nation. That being said I like Big T will be watching the Rose Bowl rooting for the Illini...and Westpalmdude, OSU did play Illinois who turned out to be a Big Ten shocker, although they did get beat ;D Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 3, 2007 Super User Posted December 3, 2007 LSU hasn't proven to anyone how good they are! As of 12/02/07 They beat #3 Virginia Tech, #12 Florida, #16 Tennessee, & #23 Auburn They beat bowl eligible Mississippi State & Alabama They lost to #27 Arkansas & bowl eligible Kentucky in triple overtime Name me 1 other team with those credentials; Ohio State or USC can't Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted December 3, 2007 Super User Posted December 3, 2007 It will be yet another beatdown by a SEC team. LSU is going to beat OSU like Florida beat OSU last year. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted December 3, 2007 Super User Posted December 3, 2007 LSU hasn't proven to anyone how good they are! He said that no one had proven they are THE best team in the nation. With 2 losses, he is EXACTLY right about LSU. They have not proven they are THE best team. Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 3, 2007 Super User Posted December 3, 2007 Name any one team in the nation with a better win record? What would y'all consider the best Quote
AnthonyRSS Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 I predict that LSU will walk the mudhole dry that Florida stomped in OSU last year. SEC FTW!!! Quote
Super User Dan: Posted December 3, 2007 Super User Posted December 3, 2007 Name any one team in the nation with a better win record? What would y'all consider the best there are several teams with better records this year... A clearly dominant team does not lose twice in one season. LSU is a great team and will probably win the championship, but you can't say for a fact they are better than all other teams this year...Kentucky and Arkansas showed that. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted December 3, 2007 Super User Posted December 3, 2007 in 1960, minnesota golphers had two losses but claimed the AP title, the only team that I can find that ever had more than one loss and win it. By the way, minn. lost in the Rose Bowl to Washington and still got the AP vote. Go figure that one out. They lost the game and still was voted 'AP champs. i'm not so sure we need a champion this year. Kinda seems like a number of teams could play for the title. Matt Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 3, 2007 Super User Posted December 3, 2007 There are clearly only 2 teams that can be considered for the national championship game Ohio State with 1 loss to an unranked team; 2 wins over #32 Michigan & #33 Penn State LSU whose 2 losses were to #27 Arkansas and bowl eligible Kentucky in triple overtime; LSU has beaten 4 BCS Ranked opponents (more than anybody in the nation) & 2 bowl eligible opponents. Kansas has only one loss to #6 Missouri but no wins over ranked teams The only other team with a better record is Hawaii with no losses but they are not part of the BCS. So who are the several teams with better records? Quote
Super User Dan: Posted December 3, 2007 Super User Posted December 3, 2007 Hawaii 12-0 Kansas 11-1 Ohio State 11-1 12-0 and 11-1 are better than 11-2. Therefore there are other teams with better win records...Which is EXACTLY what I said.I never said anything about SoS or BCS membership. I know LSU plays a harder schedule, but that's not what I was saying. I was only saying if you look purely on records, LSU cannot be declared "DOMINANT." If they were "dominant" they wouldn't have two losses. Are they the best? Probably. But they are by no means dominant. Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 3, 2007 Super User Posted December 3, 2007 Has any team ever undergone so much and still come out on top? 1) Lose 4 First round draft picks - Starting QB, 2x starting WRs, Starting FS. 2) Lose OC. 3) Lose WR coach. 4) Lose a valuable defensive lineman due to academic problems. This is all before the season even started. 5) Injuries during summer camp that limited players' abilities to develop: J. Mitchell, Cutrera, etc. 6) Constant in house comparisons/criticisms. Then: 5) Lose their number 1 receiver 2 weeks into the season (did come back but still struggles with injuries) 6) Lose a key cog in their defensive line, Charles Alexander, who was really asserting himself next to Dorsey. 7) Loses their best player, Glenn Dorsey, for the back half of the season. He "played" but obviously wasn't himself? 8) Lose their starting QB for 2 full games - played with him at half health for another 2-3. 9) A litany of other injuries which hindered different players (Steltz, Taylor, C. Jackson, D. Beckwith) 10) DC embroiled in head coaching talk. 11) Head coach embroiled in head coaching talk. 12) Back-up QB gets in bar altercation. 13) Having to break in 2 converted D-lineman on the O-line, one who seemed to be an emerging star. And still: 14) 2 losses #27 Arkansas and bowl eligible Kentucky in triple overtime 15) Beat 4 BCS Ranked opponents, 2 bowl eligible opponents, & win their conference Has any other team undergone so many troubles/losses and came out successfully. When I see teams like OU, Oregon, West Virginia, USC etc. struggle when their starting QB goes down, yet LSU loses theirs and can win their conference championship game - I think it says a lot about how good the whole of the team actually is. And perhaps a lot about the caliber of Coach Miles is. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted December 4, 2007 Super User Posted December 4, 2007 Excuse me, but I cannot remember a top twenty team Ohio State beat this year. I see a rerun of last year only worse. LSU 48 OS 13 Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted December 4, 2007 Super User Posted December 4, 2007 Geez, dem people from lueeeeeeziana never shut up about their stinkin tigers. Hey catt, did LSU beat the #1 team in the nation...twice? Quote
Troutfisher Posted December 4, 2007 Author Posted December 4, 2007 Except you're forgetting the fact where WVU beats them Jan. 2 Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Ohio State with 1 loss to an unranked team; ? Hey Catt you are probably right about who's going to win ( hope not but...) thus ( tounge and cheek) but you nead to get your head out of the proverbial Floridian SEC sand! LOL I believe IL was ranked at the time? maybe not, maybe ranked then out then back in? As of today IL ranked 13th in the nation who's losses are to the #1 team in the country and the #6 team in the country ( plus a chump team thus the 13 rank might be generous ) Quote
Super User Root beer Posted December 4, 2007 Super User Posted December 4, 2007 All I know is. LSU better whup OSU. I hate OSU. Quote
