Super User grimlin Posted December 1, 2007 Super User Posted December 1, 2007 The NFL and the Pittsburgh Steelers decided to start their Monday Night Football game without the National Anthem according to the Denver Post. Bad enough football has taken away all our free time in the fall and early winter. Now, it's going to take away our patriotism? This time, it seemed like the NFL had gone too far. The game between the hometown Steelers and hapless Miami Dolphins was delayed roughly 25 minutes because of horrendous weather. Understood. The rain drove with the intensity of a hurricane residue. There were frightening lightning strikes, a strong wind, a swampland for a Heinz Field playing surface. Everyone ran for cover, from the fans in the stands to the players on the field. But the Star-Spangled Banner was written with bombs bursting in air. Nothing's tougher than the National Anthem. The NFL hardly seemed worthy of its red, white and blue insignia colors by canceling America's most honorable song so the show could on two minutes less late. I don't know about you,but i'm beginning to really hate the NFL right now. Quote
Super User Tin Posted December 1, 2007 Super User Posted December 1, 2007 I cant believe that, just wrong. No excuses what so ever. As to hating the NFL, well they are starting to get under my skin. I will definatley say that. Quote
Guest muddy Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 It's tradition and not a law to start sporting events with the National Anthem, they probabbly needed the 3 extra minutes to fit another commerical in. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted December 1, 2007 Author Super User Posted December 1, 2007 Doesn't that just seem wrong though? Rather put a commercial up and screw the american anthem.I'm taking that as an assault. It's all about money now(not that i already knew this). Quote
Super User Marty Posted December 2, 2007 Super User Posted December 2, 2007 Bad enough football has taken away all our free time in the fall and early winter. Sorry, you've decided how your free time gets used, not the NFL. Now, it's going to take away our patriotism? They don't have the power to do that, only you and me and others can do that. We're talking one instance here out of a season. It's a non-issue as far as I'm concerned. Quote
fishbear Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 The NFL and the Steelers have apologized. The NFL has said the only way the National Anthem will not be played at another NFL game is if the game is cancelled.... They made a mistake, a big one in my opinion. But, they have admitted it, and doing something about it.. what more can you ask? Quote
Jake P Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 Yea that was weird and i didnt agree at all. the NFL is changing in bad ways as well as good in my opinion. Taking away celebrations is 1 big 1 i have a problem with, you score a touchdown its a good thing so you deserve to celebrate. and no tackeling the QB below the waist? what kinda %&$# is that? hes a player as well and should be tackled wherever. it seems like alot fo the fun is being taken out. Jake P Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 Thats insane, so you want them to score and walk back to the sideline with there head down? bs. Its a TEAM sport and you cant do TEAM celebrations. Im not talkin bout the steve smith or chad johnson celebrations, im talkin about a few teammates celebrating together becuase they worked together to make the touchdown happen. Nothing huge involving the crowd or a 30 second celebration. Just something other than nothing. That doesnt make them uncivilized at all. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted December 2, 2007 Author Super User Posted December 2, 2007 It's good they apologized. It's a start i guess. Quote
