FishingMastah1 Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 Topwaters are cool baits. I use zoom horny toads but I cant cast them on my nice new BC reel. I mean I could use my spinning but I dont want too. So could anyone give me a nice topwater that I could nicely cast on a baitcasting reel that gives some good action and good results? Thanks Quote
frank4747 Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 You need to invest in a few super spooks....try getting one white one and one black one. These things will cast your line all the way off your spool. I have had some of the best topwater action on spooks. Quote

FishingMastah1 Posted May 9, 2008 Author Posted May 9, 2008 These look nice for gettin some topwater action. So I need to learn the walk to dog. Shouldnt be to hard. Is the Super Spook Jr. What im looking for for a nice cast and action? And how bout the feathers? http://www.lurenet.com/catalog.aspx?catID=SuperSpook Quote
frank4747 Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 The super spook jr. is the same bait just a bit smaller and different colors, i believe the jr. also has rattles in it as well. Walking the dog is very easy, once you cast it out there you use jerks with the rod while keeping a lil bit of slack in the line in a constant motion, this allows the bait to zig zag back and forth. Once you fish it for couple minutes you'll get it down, it's some of the easiest fishing and has been known to hook people on bass fishing for life! Quote

BassFishingMachine Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 Do you think you can cast a big jitterbug? Amazing topwater if you didn't already know . Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 9, 2008 Super User Posted May 9, 2008 3/8 oz Cavitron buzzbait, black on black: http://www.cavitronlures.com/ If you decided to buy one, click on through the website, they are BassResource.com sponsors. 8-) Quote
Joel W Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 For topwater lures my preference is Super Spook jrs and Cavitron Buzzbaits. If I'm working weeds that are right on the surface I go with a Super Fluke or a Horny Toad. As for casting a Horny Toad with a Baitcaster, it shouldn't be a problem. I do it all the time. Quote
B-Ass-Mad Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 Rapala Skitter Pop or Skitter Prop Smaller sizes of Mirrolure Rebel Crickhopper Popper Quote
JayDub Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 Yea, I don't understand why you cannot cast a Horny Toad with your baitcaster? You should be able to fine... Quote
BirdNestBen Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 I like the super spook but you might try the original Zara Spook... it's bigger and you'll attract bigger bass.... I like the Stanley Ribbit Frog... it fishes like a buzzbait- and is virtually weedless.... Having said all that a fluke, senko, sluggo texas rigged weightless is real hard to beat..... Quote
NinjaFishin Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 I'm a big fan of the rebel pop R. I find its just the right size for me. It's not too small to where I cant cast it, and its not too big to ward off the medium sized bass. I'd also recommend a Bill Dance topwater popper if for some reason a rebel pop-r isnt working for you, however it is rather large and wont get attention from smaller fish. Getcha some links here: the rebel pop R http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&partNumber=2954&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults and the bill dance popper http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_44343_100005003_100000000_100005000_100-5-3 well that bill dance popper doesnt seem to be exactly like mine, maybe abit smaller, which I'd say is better. but its close enough Quote

Thanks There is something wrong with your setup then? I can sling a weightless zoom toad on a 7' heavy action BC with 65lb braid further than most other lures on other rods. As far as other topwters a popper, buzzbait, walking bait are all you need. Allen Quote
Super User 5bass Posted May 10, 2008 Super User Posted May 10, 2008 Buy yourself a Rico. They are somewhat light and may be a little difficult to cast on a baitcaster but it is definitely one topwater that everyone should own. Quote
T-Bone Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 I'm surprised no one has suggested the devil's horse yet. Quote
Super User T-rig Posted May 10, 2008 Super User Posted May 10, 2008 Lucky Craft Sammy 115 Zip Baits US Irony Jackall Bonnie 128 Jackson Lee Pop These baits all walk the the dog with ease. The Jackson Lee Pop I tried just recently and it has amazing action. I will walk the dog an also spit water. You can also fish it like a popper. Very versatile bait! Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted May 10, 2008 Super User Posted May 10, 2008 Get yourself a Yo- Zuri Pin's Minnow. There is a cavity inside that houses two ball bearings that serve two purposes : 1) On the cast, inertia forces the balls to the rear of the cavity, resulting in great casting distance. 2) On the retrieve, the balls act as rattles. They cost a few bucks more, but they are a fantastic topwater plug. Quote

Super User bilgerat Posted May 10, 2008 Super User Posted May 10, 2008 You callin' me a jerk ? It still catches a ton of fish. Quote
