CGH Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Have any of you fellers ever had your vehicle stolen? I like the older model GMC Suburban. I had a 1991 Model R1500 that was totaled on April 29, 2006. I have looked and search the Houston Metro-Plex area to include the Golden triangle are (Beaumont Port Author, Orange) for a replacement. Mean wile I drove whatever set of wheels that I could get my hands on that would pull a boat. Well on August 16 2007 I found a 1989 GMC Suburban in mint condition paid cash for it and drove home. On September 5, it was stolen. I hadn't even put 500 miles on the dang thing before it was taken. Well the cops recovered/found it on October 10 and man was it striped bare. Rims and tires, motor and transmission, right rear passenger door, right rear/rear door, both bumpers, dash board and of course all my stuff that was in side. It bad enough that I lost all my stuff that was in the rear of the vehicle but it was just outrageous the fees that the tow company gets to charge. After towing it 2.5 miles to their lot, notifying me and stowing it for 3 days they wanted $1695 for me to get it out of their Secured Lot for Stolen Vehicles It took ever bit of my self control > to not go blistic on the doufuss behind the glass window. I was told that I had 10 minutes of free time to look at my SUV then it was $25 charge per 30 minutes pass the initual 10 minutes. Man talk about a rip off! I looked it over and just left it their. Better to just cut my losses and just start over. Quote
skillet Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Have a number of friends with (or had :'()'67-'72 Chevy Pick-ups. When one of these trucks get stolen and found, they take everything including glass and doors. Then the tow co. gets in the act. They got you coming and going >... As Ever, skillet Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted November 21, 2007 Super User Posted November 21, 2007 I feel your pain bro. I bought a new 1998 Ford Bronco way back. The 2nd day I had it, me and 2 buddies drove it to the Florida Keys ( about 4 hours from where we lived). We went diving/snorkeling all day. On our last stop and almost dark, we get out of the water only to find the truck gone. All we had were our flippers, masks, shorts and hungry stomachs. SOB's took my truck with all our lobster tails, wallets and gear. We get home about 3am and about 2 hours later the phone rang. Police said they found my truck about 1 mile from where it was stolen. Only thing missing was the money and lobster tails. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 It's funny, the cars I have owned have usually no less than $5-7k worth of audio inside. I have had 1 attempted break in. They got in to the trunk and under the first amplifier. Their day ended there. Razor wire has a way of saying "Howdy,...that AIN'T yours!" One guy at a show showed me how he rigged small strips of steel on the inside of the door handles. They are "live" when the alarm is activated. Thieves suck. Quote
The Unabasser Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 I feel your pain Moved to Memphis in May of 1990, I was there only 2 days and my 86 Buick Regal was stolen (leather seats, fresh new paint, tinted windows, new tires etc). What a welcome that was. It was found 10 days later on a county road approx 50 miles outside of Memphis. Motor & Transmission gone and burnt to a crisp. The day it was found was the day that the bank took the last payment for it out of my account. I still can't figure out why they didn't take the leather seats and new tires. Quote
