skillet Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 While reading the post "RELIGION vs. POLITICS" and it got off into Oz, it reminded me. I sure would have liked to hear Jerry Lee sing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" at his awards ceremony the other night. Hard to visualize him singing a song like that. Sure glad he got the recognition he deserved ... As Ever, skillet Quote
Guest avid Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Nobody does that song quite like Judy Garland in the wizard of oz, but this version was a lovely ballad. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted November 18, 2007 Super User Posted November 18, 2007 I never heard of this guy till now now Micropterus. Thanks for the schooling. That guy has an amazing voice. Quote
Guest muddy Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Judy Garalnd owns this song but for my money I never heard it sung sweeter than Willie Nelson, or played with more depth than Louis Armstrong Quote
tallydude Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Good post. Speaking of "Over the Rainbow" and unlikely guys to sing it, have you ever heard of Israel "Iz" Kamakawiwo'ole? He had the most amazing voice. I love the way he did that song.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5neuWiAlpm4 RIP Iz. Yeah, before my sister died she picked it out for her funeral. I have trouble listening to it- my eyes well up when I do. Beautiful song. Quote
Super User Micro Posted November 18, 2007 Super User Posted November 18, 2007 At the end of that video, the celebration in the water with all the Hawaiian boats and dancers is Israels' funeral. His ashes were scattered in the water off a beach. Quote
