Hey Fellas: There will abe an opening in the spring at Atlanta Job Corps I may be interested in. Anyone know about this WEST LAKE area of Atlanta. Housing, shopping etc.......?

It's a long shot at this point. Elaine has her eyes on North Carolina, but it doesn't hurt to ask> Besides from Randalls posts the fishing sounds way better than PA

I think Atlanta is BYOW right now (bring your own water).  I traveled a bit to Atlanta in my past career working with the major airlines.  Atlanta was my favorite city to visit and spend some time in it's where I learned the culinary delight of soppin'

Some things for you to think about:

You know you're from Georgia if.....

1. You measure distance in hours.

2. You've ever had to switch from "heat" to "A/C" in the same day.

3. Stores don't have bags; they have sacks.

4. Stores don't have shopping carts; they have buggies.

5. You see a car running in the parking lot at the store with no one in it, no matter what time of the year.

6. You use "fix" as a verb. Example: I am fixing to go to the store.

7. All the festivals across the state are named after a fruit, vegetable, grain, or animal.

8. You install security lights on your house and garage and leave both unlocked.

9. You carry jumper cables in your car...for your OWN car.

10. You get tears in your eyes when Lee Greenwood sings "proud to be an American", no matter how often you hear it.

11. You only own four spices: salt, pepper, ketchup, and Tabasco.

12. You think everyone from a bigger city has an accent.

13. You think lingerie is a tee shirt and boxer shorts.

14. The local paper covers national and international news on one page but requires 6 pages for sports.

15. You think that the first day of deer season is a national holiday.

16. You attend every high school reunion, and chaired the committee twice.

17. You find 90 degrees "a little warm."

18. You know all four seasons: Almost summer, summer, Still summer, and Christmas.

19. You know whether another Georgian is from southern, middle, or northern Georgia soon as they open their mouth.

20. There is a Dairy Queen in every town with a population of 1000 or more.

21. Going to Wal-Mart is a favorite past-time known as "goin wal-martin" or off to "Wally World.

22. You describe the first cool snap (below 70 degrees) as good chili weather.

23. A carbonated soft drink isn't a soda, cola, or pop ... it's a Coke, regardless of brand or flavor.

24. You know what a "spicket" is.

25. You still call the refrigerator the "icebox."

26. You call it a cold Christmas if you don't break out in a sweat in your new sweater.

27. Your whole town completely shuts down for 1 inch of snow or just the threat of snow.

See this is why i am careful to ask Zel anything, It will take me at least a week to digest all of that

If it is where i think it is, it is only like 10min. from Georgia Tech which is where i will hopefully be next year. However, I dont know much about that area. I'm pretty sure it is next to downtown where there is everything. Fishing is all over the area though. There are all the lakes that randall does that have all the trophies all over 'em. Keep in mind most of the lakes around here are ELECTRIC ONLY. In other words, watch out Muddy will be operating a TM!!!

Muddy, I heard that West Lake may be changing it's name to West Gulch in around 80 days.

I live 45 mins. from Atlanta, and ain't never heard of West lake.  Where is it, and how big?  There is actually quite a bit of variety around here.  There are quite a few large lakes around here - Allatoona, Lanier, Carters, etc.  But, there are many great elec only lakes - mostly centered around the east side of ATL.  But, if you head north about an hour and a half, (time over distance thing - sorry.  To be honest, I haven't a clue the distance) there are some great stocked trout streams, and ponds.  Plus, you aren't but about 6 hours to the Atlantic ocean as well.  BTW, bringing some water would help too.  I think we have about a foot left until all of the more than 20 some odd ramps on Allatoona are closed.  Lanier is about the same.  Carters lake, being the deepest in the state, has been closed for about 2 1/2 months now, as it is so steep, a little water loss, is a lot of altitude loss.

Although I resemble 95% of those remarks Zel, I never really thought of it that way.  Just seemed normal to me.  Yall yankees sure do miss out on a bit. ;)

Those funny emails that seem like jokes to yall really are true. :o

There is a West Point Lake SW of Atlanta on the GA/AL border.

Also Westlake, which is south of Macon.

Thanks to all, but that plan just got tanked. When I finish my last course in December I am responsible to work one year to the date on the site of Job Corps I am currently working. This is because they spent about 15 g's on my tuition out of thier ed budget. If I leave before that time I have to pay them back. So's I will not be able to take a position at another site until Jan.09 The bad part of that is I will still be living 138 miles from Elaine, but I am grateful for what they have done for me and on most days I love my job.

Well....that will give you a year and a half to go thru my transition to the south training program! First I'll have to teach you the accent & language, then you have to learn all the new vegetables, then you have to learn how to use a lawn mower, you will have to learn to love the Braves and you will have to make a choice between the Yellow Jackets or Bulldogs, you will have to learn how to order a meal at the Varsity and Waffle House and there will be more like country music, operation and use of your pick up etc....etc........Tuition is free for my buddies from Brooklyn!

when I am stateside  ::) I am just outside of Savannah... now THAT is a nice town.. its big enough to have everything yet small enough to not have that "big town" feel...   IF you can find a job down in this area I would highly recommend it... I am hoping I can when its time for me to retire... I would hate to give up the fishing :)

too bad you can't move here just yet.. but it is something to keep in mind next year!

Zell hit the nail right on the head. I agree with that list 100%. lol

IMO... West Lake is a tough place to be. Randall lives about 40 minutes from there. He might know a little more.

Where would you live? Most people who work inside the perimeter hwy commute at least 40 minutes to work.

My recommendation would be to stay out of 285.  Dad has been SSOOO happy that he no longer lives, or works inside it.  Still has an hour each way commute, but if you conduct life out of the circle, it is soooo much easier.  Every time we have to go in their to get something, he always comments on how glad he is, that he got out.
