Super User Tin Posted November 6, 2007 Super User Posted November 6, 2007 Don Shula wants an asterix put next to the New England Patriots if they go undefeated this season because of the "Spygate" scandal. Just like what MLB is planning on doing to Barry Bonds and the home run record because of steroids. I thought this whole video tape cheating thing was only the first game. What does it have to do with the other 15 games? Is this crazy or it is just me? Quote
rondef Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 It was only the Jets game. Don Shula does not want his team record broken by the Patriots because of spygate. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and in the end it is just one man's (Don Shula) opinion. As for the Barry Bonds issue, the guy who bought the homerun ball sought opinions and decided to brand the ball with an asterisk and then give it to the MLB Hall of Fame, it is not MLB that is doing this. preach4bass Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Personally, I would like to see the Patriots go undefeated (and then lose in the Super Bowl to Dallas). But, to play devil's advocate, if they lost credit for winning that one game, that would be the same thing as losing a game, thus being a defeated team...end of the undefeated talk. However, the NFL has already spoken on this issue, and NE was credited with the win. Chances are they'll lose a game and Don won't have anything to worry about. Quote
mattm Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 I like the Patriots, but I don't think Shula is that far off. Even though it is a little ridiculous. I guarantee you that the only reason the NFL didn't make New England forfeit that game is b/c of the Vegas implications of a winning team being forfeited. Think about it. They came out and admitted a team was cheating during the game and let them keep the win. What if it was discovered the owner was paying the official. Like I say I like the Patriots, and believe they are not the only ones doing it, but they got caught cheating red handed. Sad thing is it probably had absolutely nothing to do with them beating the Jets. Quote
llPa1nll Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Facts are Facts. They were video taping, Fact. They got caught, Fact. The equipment was confiscated in the 1st half of the 1st Qtr, Fact. The NFL fined the team and the coach for their wrong doing, Fact. The Patriots are still credited with the win, Fact. The Patriots are 9-0 they are really good, Fact. The Jets are 1-8 they are not good, Fact. They will meet again Dec 16th in Foxboro, Fact. We will see if the Patriots really needed the cameras then, Fact. Quote
Cigarlover 1 Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 I say make cheating and performance enhancing drugs mandatory then at least we know everyone's on an even playing field. ;D Enough with the asteriks already. With all the media coverage sports gets I don't think anyone in the future is going to need an asterik to know that all these things happened. Let them make up their own mind. Quote

That would be direct link to gambling, and they won't ever comment on the effects of them making the decision that would turn Las Vegas upside down. Probably wouldn't, but who knows? Any one know of college results where NCAA has taken victories away from team and made them forfeit, I'm sure that once bets are paid, they are final. Most NCAA sanctions comes weeks and months after the results have been paid on that game. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted November 8, 2007 Super User Posted November 8, 2007 This is just my opinion but I think Shula's just getting the ball rolling early in case the Patsy's do go undefeated. He and the rest of the 72 Dolphins are sweating bullets right now.....and in reality, you could put an asterisk beside the 72 Dolphins also because they only won 15 or 16 total games that year. New England will have to win 19 in all to have an undefeated season.....and alot can happen in 3 extra games. The Patsy's being busted this year was real. They cheated. As someone said before, why would Belicheat and the Patriots organization be fined if they had not been cheating? And this year wasnt the first time they had been accused of it. Green Bay last year claimed they were stealing signals from them but thats about as far as it went. It is what it is....they got busted, they paid the fines, life goes on and they just keep on thumping a different team every week. The sad part is that they dont even have to cheat.....especially to beat the Jets. Come on. Quote
Super User Tin Posted November 8, 2007 Author Super User Posted November 8, 2007 Can't wait to see the Pats and Jets play in a few weeks, They will be out to prove they didnt need video cameras to beat them. Final score will probably be 89-3 or something like that. Quote
Guest muddy Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Can someone explain what he did wrrong? I don't know a whole lot about football. In Baseball, the teams will send scouts ahead to the teams coming up on their schedule to check out their hitters, pitchers and to try and figure out thier signal schemes. A lot of smart players who make it to 2nd base will watch the catcher to help his team figure out what pitch is coming, he cant tip em from 2nd , but if he figures out what the catcher is calling for he had better tell his coach! tyrius. Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 I heard this morning that the reporter did not quote Shula very accurately. Shule did not say that he wanted to have an asterisk on the record. The reporter asked him what he would think if one was placed there and he said he wouldn't have a problem with it. He didn't say that there should be one. reporters! > Quote

Super User Tin Posted November 8, 2007 Author Super User Posted November 8, 2007 muddy its ok in baseball but not in football for some reason. plain and simple he just broke a rule and is now considered a cheater because of it instead one of the best if not the best football coaches of all time. but now that you bring up baseball, wasnt there an issue with the cleveland indians having the camera in straight away center at jacobs field to pick off signs a few years back? Hookem Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 I see a big ole 80 dropped on the 'fins in Foxboro in December. Quote
Super User Tin Posted November 8, 2007 Author Super User Posted November 8, 2007 Bet there offense will put up over 110 points combined against the fins and jets. Quote
mattm Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 I think the Dolphins could have an asterik also. I heard yesterday on the radio that the Dolphins did not beat a single team that made the playoffs that year they went undefeated. Did you hear that Matt Fly, it was on Norm's show. Thats a pretty easy walk through the regular season. I think that there is noway they don't hang 70 at least on the Jets next time. Quote

There's no way "the Dolphins did not beat a single team that made the playoffs that year they went undefeated." Their undefeated season included the playoffs! They beat the other playoff contenders in their confrence, and then won the Super Bowl. So, they beat at least three teams that made the playoffs...probably more. Quote
mattm Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 Ok.....I was obviously not clear. I meant that during the regular season they didn't beat a team that made the playoffs. I would also like clarify and say that I have no idea if this is true, but that is what I understood an all sports radio station to say. Quote
