bassmasta7 Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Am i dreaming? Did Suppan pitch 7 2/3 with 0er? Did Izzy pitch a perfect 9th? There is a first for everything. I hate the Giants... except for tonight. Go Barry!!! I was and still am a huge huge alltime favorite player is JD Drew. I saw Stephen Drew hit 3 homers in a college game vs. GT. He is going to be great. But how cool was it tonight when JD threw out Stephen trying to stretch out a double. JD went deep twice. Something to think about: Would the Cards be better off keeping Danny Harren instead of trading for Mulder? Just some random thoughts Quote
RiskKid. Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Muddy, Here's a present from a Yankee fan who grew up on Staten Island to a Met's Fan from Brooklyn.... Hope this works, turn up the volume and enjoy this between innings when the amazins are on TV, it'll bring tears to your eyes and make you feel like you're at Shea http://youngmanhattanite.com/music/MeetTheMets_Organ.mp3 Quote

bassmasta7 Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 Good day for Cards and Mets. Both won and Reds lost. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 Great day for Muddy man too I was in the company of a beautiful redhead Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 I hope before I die: just once at the end of the Ocotober classic I can hear CUBS WIN CUBS WIN those Chicago fans are the most loyal buch with the cheapest A%% ownership on the planet Quote
bassmasta7 Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 I hope you plan on living a while longer. They are a long way from being good. They really need to rebuild. The Prior/Wood era needs to be over. Its not going to work. I mean they need to completely rebuild like Florida Marlin rebuild. They dont really have anyone to rebuild around because Lee and Rameriz are too old to build around. If I were them I might keep Prior but would try to dump Wood, Lee, and Rameriz. By dumping them I mean trade for promissing prospects. Cards offense looks good but they pitching looks normal. :'( Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 I was surprised to see how ordinary their staff is b/c like atlanta and the mets thier stong point has always been pitching and defence Thats a good team they will have more than this year for a shot at the rings Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 LOL, the rebuild years. Â AKA Â no good years or cheap skate years. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Ehy Gman where you been Looks like the Cards finally figured the Cubbies out Hope your OK Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Yeah I've been working. Â I dont like this stuff at all. :-/ We've pulled ahead of the Reds and need to keep going. Â I just hope we can keep it up. Â Once we get to the playoffs we need to beat those pesky mets. Â I cleaned out a spot for a nice new shiny rapala. Â An xrap would look real good there. ;D Quote
Super User senile1 Posted August 28, 2006 Super User Posted August 28, 2006 Well, we swept the Cubs after getting our tails handed to us by them all season. Â Hopefully, the Cards pitching will rise to the occasion. Â It hasn't so far. Â MuddyMan, your Mets swept the Cards rather handily. Â They look like the team to beat in the National League. Â Quote
bassmasta7 Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Great game last night. Well, great ending. Gary Bennett is on fire. The cubs rotation is very bad right now. When Wood comes back next year he is going into the bullpen. Look at their current rotation. Zambrano, Walrond, Mateo, Guzman, and Hill. The only good player is Zambrano. Adding Prior isnt helping that much. The team definitely needs to rebuild. They could contend next year and for a couple years down the road but it would just be for the division. They would have virtually no shot at the WS with a rotation like that. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Hey I overlooked this we may be headed for a repeat of the 68 classic series Tiger vs Cardinals except the pitching was better then Mclain and Co VS Gibson and CO Quote
Super User senile1 Posted August 29, 2006 Super User Posted August 29, 2006 Yeah, McClain and Lolich for the Tigers. Â Gibson, Steve Carlton, and Nelson Briles for the Cards. Â There were some good pitchers in that series. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 That was some year McLain wins 30 in the AL then Gibson posts the all time ERAfor a season in the NL 1.16 and goes 26-6 how he lost any games at all is beyond me Plus he struck out 16 Tigers in a single WS game And in those days they only gave out one CyYoung and McClain got it.I would not have liked to have to choose one over the other. then 3 years later The Baltimore Oriles put a season together with FOUR 20 GAME winners on the same team Hey Bassmasta7 CAN YOU NAME THEM? THATS WHEN PITCHIN WAS PITCHIN and if a batter wanted the inside of the plate he had to be willing to take one in the ear b/c guys like Gibson,McLain,Kofax,Lolich and Palmer werent givin you any gifts!Unfortunatly MLB response was to lower the Mound BAD MISTAKE! :-/ Quote
Super User senile1 Posted August 29, 2006 Super User Posted August 29, 2006 Muddy, I think Gibson had a 1.12 ERA if I'm not mistaken. Â Regarding the 20 game winners for Baltimore I could only remember two of them so I googled it and cheated. Â I won't spill the beans here. Â I had forgotten that Baltimore had four 20 gamers. Â Go to this link and check out their salaries: Â http://www.baseball-almanac.com/teamstats/roster.php?y=1971&t=BAL I know its supply and demand but it still makes me a bit sick these days. Â Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Yea I think your right about that Im always not 100% on Stats Any way thanks to BETTER LIVING THROUGH CHEMISTRY we might not every see anything like that again! Â Quote
Super User senile1 Posted August 29, 2006 Super User Posted August 29, 2006 I'm not even close to 100 percent but I do love to reminisce about the good old days of baseball. Â I'm amazed that you remember the 4 twenty game winners for Baltimore. Â I only remember Gibson's stats because I've been a Cardinal fan since I finished eating baby food. Â Quote
bassmasta7 Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 It was 1.12 ERA for Gibson and in game one he struck out 17* Tigers. My dad has told me a lot about this WS because he was a diehard Cards fan in school and the cards blew a 3 games to one lead which killed him. As for the 4 20 game winners, I can only name one off the top of my head, Jim Palmer. Then i cheated also and looked it up Jim Palmer, Dave McNally, Mike Cuellar, and Pat Dobson. My turn to ask a question (I'll start off with an easy one), Who is the only player to hit 2 grandslams in one inning? Quote
bassmasta7 Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Rogers vs. Carpenter??? I like my odds in that matchup. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 VERY GOOD BASSMASTA7!!!!!!!!!! I dont alwys get Stats right its like handgrenades to me I get close enough to hit the point ;D Anyway I dont know who hit 2 Gannys in the same inning and Im sorry I cant look it up right now Im doin school work and I will be on later. I have always been a Mets fan but my Dad would get angry sometimes with me when we went to Shea to see them play the Cards and Gibby was pitching. He was then and will always be the BEST PITCHER I EVER SAW and it was hard not to clap for him Seaver didnt even come close and he was a great pitcher himself. I always liked Koosman better though b/c Seaver wouldnt throw at a players and KOOOZ always protected his team mates. He once got warned not to retaliate for a Gibson beanning and instead of throwing at a player he threw it at Herzog in the dugout GOT TOSSED ANYWAY and Hodges was havin a baby the whole time :D Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 I wish they would legalize cloning so we could clone carpenter and pujols. Â That would make an awsome team. ;D Game starts soon wish us luck muddy. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Good luck the Rocket can still be tough on certain days. Quote
