La Russa signed on for two more years with the Cardinals.  Now we just need a general manager hired who will go out and get some people to fill our weak spots.

Nine innings in a game, seven game series...

Good luck!

Well that pretty much frees up Beckett if it goes 7!!!!!!!!!!! THEY NEED TO WIN NEXT ONE BIGTIME!!!!!   I hope to see the Rockies win this!

How bout' that romp!  Schilling takes game 2 at home.  Rockies aren't hitting the ball and that rest looks like it's definately hurt the Rockies more than helped.  The Sox are on a roll again with the bats.  Even Ortiz and Manny picked it back up tonight.

I like how the Rockies threw in the game 2 starter in the fifth and all he did was walk 2 straight batters before they pulled him.  I think it was a dumb idea to give the sox a preview of that guy as they don't see him often since he's national league.  Now the hitters have something to talk about and build on for tonights matchup.  Good thing the Rockies bullpen got all that rest, they got worked last night.

I call Red Sox 4-1 in this series.  Colorado MAY take one at home off Matsuzaka or Lester... but if Dice K is back in form for this one you mine as well turn out the lights.  GO BOSTON!!!

It took some magic for both teams to get to the World Series.

If Denver can win one in Boston and two at home, the series

goes seven games. I don't hear the Fat Girl singing.

RW, I hear you, she is in no way even remotely thinking of starting to sing. Its one game it doesnt matter if they won by 1 or 12. They still need to win 3 more. This series is not over by a long shot. Go Sox!!!

I'm not afraid to be bold about my boys.  Tell you what, you guys can bash me all you want if the Sox lose this series or if my predicitions are way off the mark.  But mark my words.  If Schilling pulls off another great post season win tonight this series is D-O-N-E.  I called it when we played the Angels (that we'd take it all) and I could pull the exact thread exact post need be.  I got that much faith in this Sox team and I know they are ready to get it done.

This is going to be a great team for some time.  Francona has taken his team to two classics in four seasons.  It starts with teams rallying behind their leader, and Francona is getting it done.  He picked up some great young guys and invested a lot in this team to get who he needed and the depth that we have.  I'm almost gonna go out on a limb and say that this team may become a dynasty in the years to come as long as we can keep Manny happy and Ortiz becomes a franchise player.

Papelbon makes the sox exciting to watch, he throws gas and has some pretty sweet dance moves. Manny's hair makes him look like one of the williams sisters. I'm not a fan of either team (if you knew who my guys were, I'd get balled from this site) but I think colorado is the better story. Boston is one of the super-powers now. They'll probably take it, and they SHOULD.

Before I say this let me say that I've liked the Red Sox since I was a kid back in the 60s and 70s.  They're not my favorite team as I'll always be a tried and true St Louis Cardinals fan.  Having said that, I think their $143 million payroll has as much to do with their success as Francona.  You can purchase a lot of depth with that kind of money, which is second only to the Yankees and is $27 million more than the 3rd highest payroll.

Now back to the Series . . . . . you couldn't ask for two better pitchers to start the series than Beckett and Schilling.  The Rockies are going to have a hard road pulling this one out after going down 2 zip.  I'm still pulling for them, but the stars have aligned themselves against the Rockies . . . . an eight day rest to cool them down, their long winning streak had to end soon, and facing the Beckett-Schilling tandem in the first two games of the series at Boston.  Even if they can win two at home to force this back to Boston, they will face the beginning of this rotation again.  (But anything is possible.)

There's no doubt that the Sox are up there with the Yankees as big spenders. With Drew making $14.4 million/season, Ramirez making $17 million, and Schilling making $13 million, those salaries pile up, and in the case of Ramirez and Schilling, at least, the money's been worth it. Drew and Matsuzaka show that big salaries are no guarantee of first-rate production, though, and the last couple of postseasons have proven once again that money can't buy you a championship, though it may propel you a long way into getting into the postseason. The really interesting thing about Red Sox salaries, I think, is that Pedroia is making $380,000 this season, while Youkilis is making $424,500, which means two players who are having a major postseason impact are costing the team less than $1 million combined. (Also, at $6.6 million, Beckett is making about half of Schilling's salary.)

I've been a Red Sox fan since I could talk and have been a Fenway season ticket holder for the past 21 years, but I doubt this team will be a dynasty. The playoff system in baseball pretty much insures against dynasties. I think the best measure of quality is which teams consistently get into the playoffs, but once they begin it is often a crap shoot. Sorry, Cardinals fans, but the best team did not win the World Series last year, and wild card teams have won what, 3 out of the last 4 WS? (Or is 2 of the last 3.) The first round in particular is risky; if a great team is off for three gamesand who isn't at some time during the seasonit's over. John Henry, the owner of the Red Sox who made his fortune using statistics in to detect small differences in currencies, said the other day that each team in the playoffs at the outset has a 12.5 percent chance of winning the World Series. He was being cute, but the point is that the hot team wins. I'm sure the Rockies are a much better team than we've seen over the last two nights, but we may never know it this postseason.

I have tickets to games 6 & 7 at Fenway, so I'm secretly hoping the Rockies take 2 of the next three games. ;)

Kent, I was going to offer you a wager of a couple of bags of senkos on the series last week, but never did, and it would seem cruel to make the offer now.  ::)

No apology necessary.  If you go back and read the posts from last season you'll see that none of us thought the Cardinals were the best team last year.  The best team for the season isn't always the team that wins the Championship.  The team that wins the World Series is the team that is playing the best baseball at that particular time.

The Cards have had some great teams over the years that have lost to lesser teams-Milwaukee and Kansas City to name a couple. That's baseball.  ::) On paper the Yankees win it all every season. Thank goodness the title is decided on the field. ;)

GO ROCKIES!!!!!  I kind of like the Red Sox but have to support the NL team. :)
