Super User roadwarrior Posted October 18, 2007 Super User Posted October 18, 2007 Hey Muddy, The Rockies are red hot and now they wait eight days to play again. What kinda fix is in with MLB that playoffs get pushed back and the World Series competes with Halloweeen? I thought baseball was played by "the boys of summer"? Quote
RiskKid. Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Ya'll know I love my Yankees.....BUT..... if I were Joe Torre I'd tell em to go take a hike at this point.....we're really missing the boat treating him this way. There's nobody else that can do the job he does with this team!!!! > > > > Quote
Super User burleytog Posted October 18, 2007 Super User Posted October 18, 2007 IT'S CALLED NETWORK TV Don't get me started. An off night in the playoffs? They'd stretch the series 3 weeks each if they could get away with it. Very surprised the division series hasn't gone to 7 games yet. Quote

It all started with lowering the mounds, then lights in Wrigley and moving the WS to prime time, not to mention what happened to regularly scheduled Double headers! Geezzz Quote
llPa1nll Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 Red Sox its do or die tonight. So in this solemn occasion I think we all need to bow our heads and say "The Fenway Prayer". ;D ;D Our Father, who art at Fenway... Baseball be thy game, Thy kingdom come, Playoffs need to be won, On Earth, then on to the Cask 'n' Flagon. Give us this day, a perfect Papi, And forgive us our losses, As we forgive those, Like Eric Gagne. And lead us not, into desperation, But deliver us from any losses. For thine is the Power, And the Glory, To beat the Indians, Forever and ever.....the Yankees suck. Amen Go RED SOX!!! Quote

I respect Torre for the job he has done and continues to do and the professional classy manner in which he does it. If the <cough> brain trust <cough> of the organization ends up not keeping him I think you will end up seeing quite a few years before their next WS win. Just my opinion. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted October 18, 2007 Super User Posted October 18, 2007 Go Injuns! If for no other reason than to laugh while everyone is sitting at home when they could be playing baseball. Quote
nboucher Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 IT'S CALLED NETWORK TV And they wonder why kids aren't as drawn to baseball as they used to be. What kid, in the eastern half of the country anyway, can stay up to watch the playoffs and WS on school nights anymore? I'm old enough to remember when the WS was played during the day and we had TVs in study hall. Game seven of the WS is now scheduled for Nov 1. I think the networks are now hurting themselves. Aside from the fans in the two cities who will play in the WS, who's going to care at that point? It wouldn't surprise me if the numbers are down for the WS this year. Quote

Super User senile1 Posted October 22, 2007 Super User Posted October 22, 2007 BELIEVE With a 143 million dollar payroll second only to the Yankees, it shouldn't be that difficult for Red Sox fans to believe. Sorry, Red Sox nation, but rooting for your team is similar to rooting for the Yankees. Go Rockies! With all due respect to Red Sox fans, I'm just a sorry-a.. Cardinal fan who hasn't forgotten the 2004 World Series. Plus, I can't remember the last time I really let some trash fly. Still, though, the Red Sox have a lot of money invested in that team. See below. Rank Team Payroll 1 New York Yankees $195,229,045 2 Boston Red Sox $143,123,714 3 New York Mets $116,115,819 4 Chicago White Sox $109,290,167 5 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim $109,251,333 6 Los Angeles Dodgers $108,704,524 7 Seattle Mariners $106,516,833 8 Chicago Cubs $99,936,999 9 Detroit Tigers $95,180,369 10 Baltimore Orioles $95,107,808 11 San Francisco Giants $90,469,056 12 St. Louis Cardinals $90,286,823 13 Atlanta Braves $89,492,685 14 Philadelphia Phillies $89,368,213 15 Houston Astros $87,759,500 16 Oakland Athletics $79,938,369 17 Toronto Blue Jays $79,925,600 18 Milwaukee Brewers $77,986,500 19 Minnesota Twins $71,439,500 20 Cincinnati Reds $69,654,980 21 Texas Rangers $68,818,675 22 Kansas City Royals $67,366,500 23 Cleveland Indians $61,289,667 24 San Diego Padres $58,235,567 25 Colorado Rockies $54,424,000 26 Arizona Diamondbacks $52,067,546 27 Pittsburgh Pirates $38,604,500 28 Washington Nationals $37,347,500 29 Florida Marlins $30,507,000 30 Tampa Bay Devil Rays $24,124,200 [edit] References Quote

Now Cmon you cant have sour grapes from the 2004 season, after just winning the 2006 World Series. Well it should be a great matchup. To be honest I dont pay any attention to the National League, so I have no idea what the Colorado Rockies are bringing. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted October 22, 2007 Super User Posted October 22, 2007 You're right, lPa1nl. But the way you guys swept us is hard to forget. I actually don't dislike the Red Sox. I did root for them to break "the curse." Otherwise, I was pulling for some new faces in the playoffs this year, so the Rockies were one of those teams. Quote
