Yeah, sorry Muddy. The Birds just can't beat the Phils.Maybe we can get em' tonight.I don't know though, every starter last night with the exception of Molina(which was pulled in the 2nd from flu),was either a call up or a bench player. It looked like a spring training line up.

The Red Sox lead continues to shrink and we continue to go with unproven people in clutch situations. Ramirez is STILL on the bench. Im glad the Patriots are playing!

The Mets hold a record that is safer then Dimaggio's hitting streak ;IN 1962 THEY LOST 120 GAMES

they are embarking on another record; NO TEAM IN MAJOR LEAGUE HISTORY HAS EVER TANKED THEIR DIVISION TITLE LEADING BY 7 GAMES WITH ONLY 17 TO GO!!!!!

Posted

Holy Crap we finally won one on a night Philly lost!!!!!!!!!!1 2 1/2 up, breathing room. If the Met's do not win the division they are screwed because they do not have enough games won to take the wild card. I would hate to see it go to the extra game we willl have to play against the Card's to make up a rain game. I can just see it Willie turns the ball over to his favorite Mutt (ooppss I mean Met) reliver Motto and he blows another 4 run lead. ::) :-/

Wagner had a back spasam  HE COULDNT WIN A GAME THAT COUNTED for Houston and he can't do it now. This is too ugly to watch Philies back to 1 1/2 out they won . Mets squandered to leads tonight and Glavine left as a winner and had to settle for a no decision. They knew last year, with all the pitchers who went to other teams, that the bullpen went from among the best to posibbly the worst middle relief team in the NL East, and what does Minya get us: over the hill outfielders !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yea he's a genius

Phillies came from bejhind again and the Mets wasted another great start and lost in 10, blowing yet another 4 run lead. We are only one up now, this is ugly

The Cards gave their fans one last win to close out the home season. What a way to end it.I thought Albert got Lidge again but now Lidge knows theres more than Albert to worry about! It was a great game seeing Oswalt do his thing and Biggio play his last game at Busch.Hope to see Albert get that 1 more RBI to keep his streak alive....Oh well,a tough luck season for the Redbirds.Gonna have to pull for the National League's best, whoever that will be.

On another note:

I was thinking about who are the worst attitudes in the game today.I see the class acts like Biggio and some not so classy like my top 5 hotheaded, disrespectful, bad attitudes in MLB today:

1.Ozzie Guillen-this guy is a time bomb just ready to go off.I can't believe Chicago signed a 3 year ext.

2.Milton Bradley-don't take much for him to lose it either.

3.Carlos Zambrano-I am suprised some of the Cubs haven't dehydrated as many water coolers he has destroyed this year.If he walks a guy that water cooler is gettin' it.

4.Lou Pinella-another manager who can't keep it togather under pressure.

5.Barry Bonds-the guy may be the HR king with an * by his name but he is stiil hotheaded as any!

Honorably mention:

Pedro Martinez-though he has grown up a little the picture of him slamming old man Stupper to the ground still earns him a spot in my list.

Posted

CJ: Pedro makes the list because he cannot be depended on when his team needs him I hope this fall signals a change in his behavior

Watch out Crd Fans, if the Metsa and Phillies end the season .5 cames apart the Mets have a rained out make up game to play with the Cards, it could be a classic, the way they dislike eachother :o

It is sad when the first place Mets have to depend on weak teams like Floridia to stay in the mix

Wagner is suffering from yet another late season back spasam problem He can get us to the dance but he can't get us through it;CHOKES :-[

Anyway we gained a game on Philly: Cubbies still look the stongest heading to the NL showdaown

Posted

Yeah the cubs do muddy.I wish the Cards could loan the Mets a couple releivers.Oh well...you never know what's gonna happen.Like the comercial says'"You can't script Oct."!Even though the Cards are out of it,I will enjoy watching their last few games and pull for them.I still gonna pull for the NL at the WS no matter who it is.

MLB scheduling kills me. The Cubs should finish every season at home.  As should Boston, St Louis, LA, etc.

Going to be a tough road to hoe this week. 6 games vs. bad teams on the road. Already dropped one. If I've learned anything over the last 20 years, it is that nothing is certain when you're talking about a certain team from the north side of the Windy City.

Yeah Burley and the Brewers are slaughtering the Cards again tonight.Feilder just hit his 50th HR.I think he is making a big run for MVP!

Posted

If the Mets pull a miracle off WRIGHT ( 30/30 club) is MVP hands down!!!!!!!!

Bad night Mets , Cubs and Philthies all loose to trash teams

Which goes to an old post on this thread: Losing teams get up for these late season Pennant race games; the only pride left is keeping a team from clinching ;)

Wright is no more worthy than Aramis Ramirez.  Making the playoffs should have no bearing on one's MVP status.

The Brewers would have been marooned in last place without Fielder.

I AGREE THAT PlACE SHOULD NOT MATTER AS MUCH AS IT DOES FOR THE VOTERS, I HAVE FELT THAT WAY SINCE I USED TO WATCH THE CUBS LANGUISH IN LAST PLACE AND ERNIE BANKS HAVING CAREER YEARS. FEILDER MAY HAVE HIT A LOT OF HR'S , BUT UNTIL THEY RAISE  THE MOUND AGAIN THIS IS BECOMING SOMEWHAT A SEASONAL EVENT FOR VARIOUS GREAT HITTERS. THEY HAVE CHEAPEND THE VALUE OF THE HR.

THIRTY STEALS IN AN ERA OF GREATLY DIMINISHING STEALS COMBINED WITH THIRTY HR'S IS A LOT HARDER GOAL TO ACCOMPLISH. WRIGHT IS A RISING STAR, AND HE HAS HAD A GREAT YEAR AND IF THE METS TAKE THE DIVISION, HE HELPED HIS TEAM EMMENSLY AND 30/30 IS A VERY ELITE CLUBS THESE DAYS. I THINK THE LAST MET TO DO IT WAS ANOTHER 3RD BASEMAN AROUND  1986 HOWARD JOHNSON

Bob Gibson started 34 games in 1968, he went 22-9 WITH AN ERA OF 1.12

It was one of the main reasons they lowered the mound the other two Kofax from55 to 66 struck out 2,398 batters with a 2.76 era, and Denny McLains 31 wins in 68. The baseball lords felt the pitching was geting to far ahead of the hitting, and they felt that Homeruns put more fannies in the seats.

By the way there was only one CyYoung in 68( The following season they went to 2 one for the nl and one for the al) and McClain got it!! Thats a vote i wouldnt want to have to make both accomlishments were huge, however as time goes by Gibson's 1.12era looks like the greaer accomplishment

Posted

Funny you brought that up Muddy. The same year McClain was paid to throw the series. The only problem was the Tigers had 2 other starters who were lights out against the Cards and the Tigers go on to win the series. It was a time that pitching dominated the sport.

The longball is what catches the eye anymore with the fans and the writers....I guess. That and RBI's.When you try to define "most valuable player"what do you look for.HR and RBI's usually what it takes.I think the writers are selling the award short. How about productive outs?Or not so productive outs?Wright and Feilder have struck out over 100 times a peice this year.Nothing productive about striking out.Fielder definantly has the MVP stats .613 slg. percentage says alot and the fact he does carry the Brew crew somewhat, don't forget about Braun. Then there is another great defensive shortstop that has joined the 30/30 club this year.Jimmy Rollins has struck out 84 times and a batting average just under .300.He doesn't have the RBI totals as Fielder or Wright, but he is still my pick for MVP.Fielder will get it though.Just like you said Muddy,he put fannies in the seat.

You are correct CJ, I have a problem being fair here because I really hate the Phillies and their fansI went to a Philly/Cards a few years back, in Philly. I forgot the pitcher, may have been Shilling  struck Puljos out first 2 times once swinging and once looking. The trhid time around , Philies down one anf Puljos got a 2 out single and the crowd booed Shilling!!

Anyways the truth is the truth Rollins is the only real competion that Wright has, that even hurts my finger tips to type it

Posted

GIBSON is my favorite pitcher of all times . Not only was he nasty , he hit 102 guys, and had a mean fastball and his LIFETIME STATS; 251-174  so 3,117 and bb 1,336 with LT ERA 2.91

His WORLD SERIES STATS ARE INCREDIBLE  7-2, 1.89 ERA  SO 92 WITH ONLY BB17

Posted

OPPPSSSSSS! Ho-jo got into the thirty thirty club in 87 and 89, my mistake. Thank goodness for the Elias Book!

Posted

Yeah muddy,I wasn't around to see Gibson.I've read and watched enough about baseball history to know how good he was.

The Phils and the Yankee fans have their attitudes toward their own players. To me it's disrespect for the game.To hear the Yankees boo A-Rod for a bad night is just sickening.Think he will re-up with NYY next year?I highly doubt it.I live in Cardinal country here in west Ky.I have also lived in St.Louis briefly. There is no better baseball town in America,IMO.The fans of St.Louis will even applaud a great play made by an opposing defender. To me,it is total respect for the game. The only player I have seen them BOO steadily is Barry Bonds and I've joined in myself a few times.

Posted

My father would get  pizzed off when Gibson came to town, I would root for him HE WAS THE BEST for my money 8-) Cards fans are great . I was saddened by the new Alignment years ago b/c the best Met's rivalry was with the Cards before that.
