bassmasta7 Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 OK LET'S TALK TRASH. THE CARDS WILL BE SWEEPING UP THE BASEMENT THIS FALL; WHAT A FALL FROM GRACE. I RESPECT LA RUSSA SO I AM NOT TRASHING HIM OR HIS TEAM, THEY DID NOT EARN THEIR SALARIES THIS YEAR, LOTS OF LACKLUSTER PLAY FOR DEFENDING CHAMPIONS :-/ I believe it was Queen who once said "We are the champions my friends." That is OK with me, I will trade one bad year for the championship. The cards have been killed with injuries this year. Mulder out all season and more importantly Carp out for the season, the pitching was depleted. All the other pitchers have been hit or miss. The Cards were within 5 games last week and with Carpenter healthy that is probably a 10 to 15 game swing because Anthony Reyes wouldnt have been pitching who loses almost every start (in part because of run support). The Cards could be in first with a healthy Carpenter alone. They still have some hope but 6 games out is dfficult to make up but it has been done. Also the cards are only 4 games out in the loss column. The Cards need a spark. Speaking of, Rick Ankiel is supposed to be starting for the first time in his career as a major league outfielder. Quote
bassmasta7 Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Turns out the Cards were only 6 games out last week but it doesnt matter cause they are now only 5.5gb. Talk about a spark Ankiel hits a homer in a cards win and LaRussa says it is the happiest the team has been during his time as manager other than win they won the world series. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted August 12, 2007 Super User Posted August 12, 2007 The Cards are done and Nolan Ryan, Bob Gibson, Cy Young, and Babe Ruth couldn't have helped them this season. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted August 13, 2007 Super User Posted August 13, 2007 The Cards are done and Nolan Ryan, Bob Gibson, Cy Young, and Babe Ruth couldn't have helped them this season. For those of us who are Cardinals fans, the Cards are never done. Â Even if they were 30 games out we would delude ourselves into believing they could turn it around. Â They've had injuries, lost all of their good pitchers, and they've been in a team batting slump, yet they're still only 5 and a half out. Â And if there is no improvement this year, just wait until the next. Â Pujols was due for a bad year. Â After 115 games he has the following stats: Â .313 avg, 24 HRs, and 75 RBIs and he isn't hitting in the clutch. Â How's that for a bad year, though? Â The majority of hitters would love having those numbers. Quote

Guest the_muddy_man Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 It's one thing to sign a baseball player based on his merits alone, but I am beggining toi feel a litttle bit of racism in the way MINYA is making the Met's very latin oriented. Nobody is willing to say anything, because they will be jumped on. Delgado Hit a hoomerun the other day at the game Minya was glowing in the post game interview about it. How about the 2 errors on the same play that cost the Mets 2 runs and how about his other 3 at bats, that never made it out of the infield 2 with men on base. He has Perez pitching whos era is lower than some NFL linemans weight by ounces!!! And the team is loaded with used to be great Latino players Not to mention Pedro( I cant pitch today my toe hurts) Martinez, HE MAY BE BACK FOR SEPT Â who needs him? Now he wants to sign PUGGE RODRIQUEZ as a catcher. PUDGE"S great years are behind him THIS IS STARTING TO SMELL well FISHY :-/ Quote

Esp. with the rookie Brewers and Cubs, notorious for falling apart in september, in front of them. How could the Brewers be notorious for falling apart in September when they're usually in the basement? It isn't as though the Cards are really burning it up to cut the margin. Â They're gaining because the Brewers are struggling. Quote

How could the Brewers be notorious for falling apart in September when they're usually in the basement? It isn't as though the Cards are really burning it up to cut the margin. They're gaining because the Brewers are struggling. I didnt say the Brewers fell apart in september, I said they have a rookie team. They dont have any playoff or playoff run experience. I said the Cubs are notorious for falling apart in september. It doesnt really matter if the cards are or arent burning it up to cut the margin, all that matters is that they cut the margin. They are gaining in part because the Brewers are struggling and they are struggling do to no veteran leadership and experience. If the Cards win tomorrow and complete the sweep against the first place Brewers, then they will be 2 1/2 games out and 1 out in the loss column. Also, the cards have won 7 out of their 9. The pitching is coming around to resemble the some of the pitching projects that won the world series last year. I think if the Cards had either Nolan Ryan, Bob Gibson, Cy Young, or Babe Ruth they would be the favorites down the stretch. Quote
RiskKid. Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Over here in the American League there is a cautiously optimistic fan of a certain team that doesn't play well against the Orioles. Actually there are two teams that havn't done well against them....nothing else for me to say except I'm hoping for an interesting stretch run...... Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Lots of luck the Sox still have 12 games left against that powerful Tampa Bay Squad Quote
llPa1nll Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Well it seems that the Red Sox have forgotten how to swing a bat lately. Amen that they still have a 5 game lead. Ortiz is visibly not himself at the plate and that has been the case all year. Lets hope the remaining squad can get it together. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted August 17, 2007 Super User Posted August 17, 2007 Sad  day today Mr Phil Rizzuto died, he will be missed :-[ There aren't many playing the game today like Mr Rizzuto.  "Holy cow!"  He will absolutely be missed. RIP Quote
Super User senile1 Posted August 17, 2007 Super User Posted August 17, 2007 The Cards completed that sweep of the Brewers. Â Now we play the Cubs. Â I can't believe we're two and a half out of first and still two games under .500. Â Hey, Muddy_Man, what's got into those Diamondbacks? Â They have the best record in the National League. Â I still think your Mets will be the team to beat come playoff time. Â Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 I am more concerned with The Cubs < Lou got em playing sweet! Â The Cards finally woke up and swept the Brew Crew, Probably the most overrated team in the NL Quote
Super User senile1 Posted August 18, 2007 Super User Posted August 18, 2007 I'm leaning towards the Cubs taking the Central division. Â They are playing better than earlier in the season. Â Unless the Mets slump going into the playoffs, I still think they can take the Cubs. Â You never know though. Â The Cardinals were a mediocre team last year but they got hot going into the playoffs. Â Quote
