Guest the_muddy_man Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 7th inning Rogers is really lookin good I hope the Crads can make up these 2 runs Decent Game so far Quote
RiskKid. Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Lookin like a 5 game series now......cards have 3 outs to get it done.....Boy is Rogers showin up in these playoffs. What happened to baseball weather......this looks like the North Pole Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Hey Risk and u call yourself a Yankee fan then u should know what the WS weather can be like We need to win at least 2 in St Louie now Quote
RiskKid. Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Yo Muddy.....I've been in the south over 30 years now....I was cold just watchin it on TV It will be warmer in St Louis....advantage Red Birds!!!! Quote
Valascus Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Whew...Rogers was rough on the boys last night. At least we didn't get shut out. But we have Carp and Sup comin' up the next to games. I believe Reyes is scheduled again for Game 5. So the Cardinals DO have a chance...albeit a small one to nail this down at home. It's getting exciting now! Quote
Super User senile1 Posted October 23, 2006 Super User Posted October 23, 2006 Kenny Rogers was lucky. : The Cardinals hit quite a few balls very hard but they were all right at someone. And what was the deal with the stuff on his hand in the first inning. (Read below if you didn't watch the game.) http://cbs.sportsline.com/mlb/gamecenter/recap/MLB_20061022_STL@DET Kenny Rogers says his idol is Sandy Koufax, but I'm wondering if he might be influenced by Gaylord Perry. : Muddy_Man and Riskkid, you know what I'm talking about. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Hey Senile we talking bout the same Gaylord"Brylcreme" Perry You know a little dab will do ya ;D Another example of the Integrity of Tim McCarver he saw it he put it right up there If the Cards win they should cut him some dough Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted October 23, 2006 Super User Posted October 23, 2006 "Brylcreme" or not, Rogers pitched a gem. We did hit couple of balls hard, but Rogers and Co. have been "lucky" many time this year. Weaver didn't have his best stuf, and looked plum confused at time, but still pitched a great game. When you hold Detroit to a couple of runs, you have done your job. Riskkid, I would NOT bet the ranch on a 5 game Series, unless Detroit doesn't bring their A-game to St. Louis. Quote
bassmasta7 Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Almost pulled it off. Cards do sure like rallying against closers. I dont think it matters whether or not the pine tar helped him he should be suspended anyway. Remember when Julian Tavarez got thrown out and suspended for having a foreign substance on his hand, he threw his hat into the stands so they never knew whether it was pine tar or dirt. They should suspend Rogers for this to. A TV station got the hat from the fan that caught it and ran tests on it and found out that the substance was just dirt. If you look at every one of julian taveraz's caps while pitching he has a dirt spot on it. Cards fans, A's fans, and Yankees fans should all want him to be suspended because he had this on his hand through every round of the playoffs. Who knows, it might be the Yankees playing the cards because he had this through every game so far. Check out this pic. The pic on the left is his hand in the ALCS and the pic on the right is his hand in the World series. That is definitely proof right there. Quote
RiskKid. Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 K Mac....I meant a 5 game series as it's now winning 3 out of the 5 remaining to play.... Senile....Let's see....brylcreme, spit, pine tar, cork it ain't right but it's part of the lure of the game....Gaylord's a piece of work, he comes to Nashville every so often and the sports talk show interviews him, he's always fun. I thought George Brett had the patent on pine tar or was that preparation H ;D....from the bat to the pitching hand, whats next? I suppose if Rogers gets to pitch in St Louis he'll be batting and that stuff will be all over his hands. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted October 23, 2006 Super User Posted October 23, 2006 Wow, Bassmasta7. Those pictures say a lot. You know they posted stats for Rogers last night stating that he gave up around 20 runs in his first 20 or so innings of playoff pitching. His last 23 innings he hasn't given up any. That's a big turnaround and is possible, but these pictures surely do raise doubts. This is definitely not dirt. And who knows if he wasn't able to store his substance somewhere else after the umpire was notified of it. I don't mind losing fair and square and the Cardinals may lose this thing fair and square. I'm just tired of all the cheating that goes on in sports today. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 I thought abot the Niekro Bros too, those nasty knuckleballers. Gammon once asked Uker (he caught both of them) What the key was to catching a knuckleball his answer " When it stops rolling you picki it up" Quote
Super User senile1 Posted October 23, 2006 Super User Posted October 23, 2006 The Niekro brothers . . . . . man, if the knuckle ball wasn't such a difficult pitch to control those guys would have been unbeatable. Joe wasn't quite the pitcher that brother Phil was but he still won over 200 games. I was just reading up on Phil. Bobby Murcer made the following quote about Phil Niekro: "Trying to hit him is like trying to eat Jell-O with chopsticks." Quote
bassmasta7 Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 One thing i picked up from the pick that was mentioned in the article was that Kenny Rogers has very hairy forearms. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted October 23, 2006 Super User Posted October 23, 2006 Hair??? I thought that was pine tar. Quote
Replica. Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Tony LaRussa should have called him on it, he would have been kicked out of the game. It sounds like LaRussa may have been silent because Jim Leyland may have info about the Cards pitchers( I believe he worked for them). This does not excuse Rogers cheating, but it may explain LaRussas lack of action. Today Keith Olbermann said many pitchers cheat, but not to the degree that Rogers did. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 LaRussa needs a little fire in his ganmke Just think if he got 1/2 as excited as Billy Martin did with the George Brett pinetar fiasco. The team has to feel the manager is doing everything possible to stick for his guys Quote
Valascus Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 The substance on his hand didn't help him too much. Roger's worst inning pitched was the first, when he had the substance on his hand. After he washed it off, he still owned us and actually pitched better through the rest of the game. So I don't really think the substance made a big difference. I honestly don't know why La Russa didn't make a bigger stink about it. Maybe it's out of respect for Jim Leyland...maybe it was because the umps didn't seem to make a big stink about it...or maybe it's just because he doesn't want to be viewed as a whiny baby whose always looking for some sort of edge...who knows. I bet the A's are a bit peeved though. MLB seems like it's gonna do the same thing here as it did with roids. Sweep it under the rug and take the position of "nothing to see here...move along". And that's a shame...the Umps and the MLB officials at the game should have made an example out of him to show MLB fans that they are dedicated to keeping the game clean. Looks like another Selig slip up to me. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 Looks like another Selig slip up to me. HEY VAL YOU GOT THAT RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!! My biggest peeve about the game BUD IS AN OWNER , no matter whats on paper HES AN OWNER and an owner should never, never be commisioner Guilliana and Cuomo, both rerspectable men of integrity, showd intreat and were never asked. Why do you think if all gets fluffed and dumped,THE BOX OFFICE Most of his calls have been so one side ( for the owners) that it gets me sick > Quote
Valascus Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 What really bothers me about this whole thing now is that this isn't going to go away...the only way this goes away is if the Cards win the World Series. If they lose the media is going to jump all over La Russa saying "What if he would have raised a bigger stink and gotten Rogers taken out of that game?" And if Detroit wins now the games Rogers pitched are now suspect. This whole series will be questioned as well as the ALDS and ALCS. When it all boils down...it boils down to the fans not being to trust the game because MLB will not and has not done what needs to be done to make this game great again...and that is enforce it's existing rules while strengthening them and adding new ones to address new dangers to the games integrity...what little is left anyway. :-/ Quote
RiskKid. Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 Even though he washed his hands after the first inning I bet they were still pretty sticky.....that stuff is hard to clean up. I think they'll (Selig & Co) try to keep this as low key as possible to avoid as much controversy as possible. Remember guys.....to the top brass it's all about the $$$$$. What's right and wrong is secondary. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 Remember guys.....to the top brass it's all about the $$$$$. What's right and wrong is secondary. Yep, that is why everyone cheats. Its all about the bottom line and how its going to benifit me. Quote
Replica. Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 If Rogers had a file behind his ear, sandpaper in his mitt, and pinetar on his hand it is still LaRussas responsibility to have an umpire check the pitcher. I am 99% sure that according to MLB rules that only the manager can do that. Rogers is a cheater, but LaRussa dropped the ball on this one. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 Anyone can call attention to it,TimMcCarver certainly did ;D Just kiddin you are right a player would go to a coach and/or manager then the manager can call time and request it on the drop of a dime. Whats the odds that they got it from TV in the first place? Quote
Super User senile1 Posted October 24, 2006 Super User Posted October 24, 2006 I think Carp is due to pitch a great game for the Cardinals. I hope it is tonight. Quote
