Guest muddy Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 Whew... glad im not a mets fan. (Sorry muddy) Im used t o this Whata you gonna do! I starting talking about this when we got swept back to back by the Phillys. I just dislike the Phillies so much i wish it had been another team. Minya ain't the genius he was supposed to be I hope this doesn't all fall on Randolph! Quote
bassmasta7 Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 Well, im pretty sure they control their own fate still, that's all that really matters in the final weekend of the season. Cardinals end the season playing some decent ball with everyone injured. I was really pullin for the mets today with perez pitching cause he is on my fantasy team and it is coming down to the wire in the championship. $60 on the line and and my 21-2 record at stake. The other side of it is that i was hoping cole hamels pitched well cause he is on my team too. 8 innings 0ER 13k, pretty good, looks like he is healthy again. Dont wanna face that twice in a five game series. Quote
Guest muddy Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 The Mets are taking thier fate into their hands, and dropping it at least 5 times a week!! They not only are hurtin in the Bullpen, but errors like this i expect at little league games, OH well i might as well be the first to say it ' WAIT TIL NEXT YEAR ;D Quote
Jake. Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 Hey Muddy, Looks like it might come down to the last game of the season. Mets crushed the Marlins, and the Phillys are down by 2 runs in the 9th. Oh well, It doesn't matter to me much anyway, the Braves are not in contention. Quote
Guest muddy Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 No matter who wins the East it is still the Cub's i fear the most. It looked like Pinella was going to be a shoe in fro Manager of Year but Manuel has certainly changed all that for the job he has done in Philly ;D Quote
CJ Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 Muddy, your man Mayne looked sharp tonight! It's down to what happens tomorrow. The Marlins catcher doesn't like theives either! ;DThat was funny!I would have took third too.Heads up play even when the game is a blowout.Reyes gets another SB on his stats!I would expect better eye-hand cordination out of a MLB catcher. He missed Reyes' nose by a foot. Guest muddy Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 Dead Heat with only 2 games left : Quote
Super User burleytog Posted September 30, 2007 Super User Posted September 30, 2007 GO PHILLIES!!! Â The Mets deserve it for 69. Glad Cincy decided they were tired of playing ball. Â Quote
Guest muddy Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 There is no Karmic debt owed by the Mets The Mets over ran the cubs bcause of , well this says it better than me: By mid-August, the favored Chicago Cubs seemed safely on their way to winning the first ever National League East Division title (and their first postseason appearance of any kind since 1945). The Mets sat in third place, ten games behind. But Chicago went 8-17 in September, while the Mets, with outstanding pitching from their young staff, piled up victory after victory, winning 38 of their last 49 games. They took first place for good on September 9, and finished in first place with a 100-62 record for the season, their first winning year ever, a full eight games over the Cubs. The Mets finished with a team ERA of 2.99, and a league leading 28 shutouts thrown. Tom Seaver led the way with a 25-7 record, with lefty Jerry Koosman behind him at 17-9 record, while Cleon Jones finished with a .340 batting average. Seaver's best game occurred on July 9, at Shea Stadium, where he came within two outs of a perfect game, but gave up a one-out, ninth-inning single to the Cubs' Jimmy Qualls for the only hit in the Mets' 4-0 victory. And as a result of this i got to go to my first World Series game ever with my Father This being said: The met's were sitting on a 7 1/2 game lead with less than 20 games to be played and they chocked, yes it is the team I root for but in baseball the truth is the truth! While they were chocking the Phillies were playing championship caliber ball , the Phillies have palyed their way into a great race and the Met's who wer playing overtheir heads this season had thier once mighty but now depleted middle relief exposed. Guest muddy Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 I feel like a REDSOX FAN: Seven runs the first inning;GEEZZZZZZZZ Â :'( :-/ :-[Well Congrats and good luck to the PHILLIES, they palyed like a team that wanted it! Now to put my Cubs hat on, I am rooting for the Cubbies to finally take one home 8-) Quote
Guest muddy Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 And a special congrats to the undisputed MVP Jimmy Rollins; he just took that team and proplled them to a championship and he he put to gether an offensive barrage we havent seen since Mays WELL DONE!!!!!!! 8-) FROM ESPN STATS POOL and The Phillie Enquirier ( Sports Section 9/28/07) Phillies star Jimmy Rollins tripled against Washington on Sunday and joined Curtis Granderson, Willie Mays and Frank "Wildfire" Schulte as the only players in major league history with 20 stolen bases, 20 homers, 20 triples A big reason for the Phillies' offensive prowess has been Jimmy Rollins. He is being touted as a NL MVP candidate, and deservedly so. Rollins is hitting .297 with 34 doubles, 16 triples, 25 home runs and 79 RBIs this season. He has scored a league-leading 119 runs. He has 178 hits. He has stolen 28 bases. His .533 slugging percentage ranks 13th in the league. His slugging percentage is better than hitters such as Carlos Lee (.532), Carlos Beltran (.531), Ken Griffey Jr. (.522) and Alfonso Soriano (.509). Rollins' numbers are not just nice, solid numbers. They could make history. All sorts of interesting historical possibilities have popped up about Rollins this season. Here are a few: Rollins entered yesterday on pace to have 210 hits, 141 runs, 40 doubles, 19 triples, 30 home runs, 93 RBIs and 33 stolen bases. Just seven players in baseball history have hit .290 with 200 hits, 125 runs, 35 doubles, 15 triples, 25 home runs and 90 RBIs in a season: Earl Averill (1936), Joe DiMaggio (1936 and 1937), Lou Gehrig (1927 and 1930), Chuck Klein (1932), Stan Musial (1948), Babe Ruth (1921) and Al Simmons (1930). Each of those seven resides in the Hall of Fame. None of those players stole more than 20 bases in those seasons. (Klein stole 20.) George Brett in 1979 became the only player in baseball history with 200 hits, 20 doubles, 20 triples and 20 home runs in a season. Rollins could be the second. He Got his 20th Triple just an hour ago!!!!!! Wow what a season . Quote
CJ Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 Sorry Muddy,to see the Mets miss out.My Cards did as well. Rollins is hands down the MVP,in my book.I'm not sure but I believe he is the first player with 200 hits,30 SB,and 20 triples. He started every game of the season(162).Had a record breaking 718 AB. I know you mentioned earlier in the thread that the Phillies fans were disrespectful and I hate that. But I gotta pull for them. Why?The players! The Cubbies got to many tudes on their team.I guess it seems discriminating beens the Cubs won the central, being a Cards fan,but it ain't that.I wanna see respectful players go to the series. So,I guess the trash still gets to fly! [move]GO PHILS GO PHILS GO PHILS[/move] BTW,I wonder if Bartman has got his playoff tickets yet? Quote
Guest muddy Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 No hes watching the game at Randolph's house Quote
bassmasta7 Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 I cant cheer for the cubbies. I hate Zambrano enough to hate the whole team so GO Rockies. Also I won my fantasy league by 3 pts thanks to Atkins. Quote

Guest muddy Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 I HOPE THIS BUYS MINYAS TICKET OUT OF NEW YORK; A lot of the writers are calling for Willie's head, it is not his fault. He knows more about pitching than most of us, he learned from Billy Martin and Art Fowler, I can't argue his choice of Glavine over Pedro: Glavine had won 7 palyoff games, and was pitching strong. Pedro had already lost impotant play off games and had a habit of coming up lame for the Mets when they really needed him  I ain't touching that one, I trust Willie The bus out should conatin: Minya> He let all those great middle relief guys leave and replaced them with aging players he was friends with. He kept harping on Alou's hitting streak which produced a total of 9 runs while he comitted errors in the field that proved more costly Wagner: his cramped back and excuses of costing big games handed to him by Maine, Glavine and Pedro is not championship ball Coaches; Those errors and base running blunders in Sept. are inexcusable, since you cna't get rid of the team it falls on the coaches Gonna be an interesting winter Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted October 1, 2007 Super User Posted October 1, 2007 Muddy, I can't believe your Mets tanked and missed the play-offs. :-X I know they have a long storied history of such things, but if I were a betting man I would have lost my shirt...good thing I'm not! Well as the Cubbies will soon be saying, We'll get em next year." Quote
nboucher Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Muddy, it's great to see you persist as a Mets Mook, no matter what. As for Glavine v. Pedro, the issue is really old pitchers and how suddenly unreliable they can be. The Red Sox have one in Curt Schilling (who I keep referring to as Chuck Schilling, dating myself). I worry about his starts in the postseason, if he isn't precisely locating that slow fastball he now has. Either way, I'll be at Fenway on Wednesday. Quote

I would have liked to have seen a rematch of the 1986 WS. With hopefully a different outcome. Man sometimes its hard to believe the Red Sox are doing well from the fate they have carried for so long. Quote
Guest muddy Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Their front office started working differently in the early nineties, and a combination of youth and free agents have brought them to baseballs elite. I respected Bostons long stance on bringing up players like Yaz and Dewey and sticking with them til the end, unfortunatley the free agency era has curtailed that for the time being. They really have a good eye for pitching and this is always the key. Quote
llPa1nll Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Well they may have a good eye but I think they fumbled quite a bit using Okajima and Dice-K as much as they did. They both came from Japan and Okajima was lights out until he hit the proverbial wall same with Dice-K neither of them have been in a season this long before. I hope with the rest they have they will be effective for the post season run. I hope Eric Gagne has righted his ship and will be a contributer rather than a crap shot. Buckholtz(sp?) looks good and Beckett has matured into the ACE he is. Quote
Guest muddy Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 I am looking fowar to the possibility of a really historical WS INDIANS vs CUBS, can you imagine one group of loyal fans still coming away heartbroken. I think it ws Bart Giammati that said" The game of baseball is meant to break your heart" if not mistaken he was a huge Red Sox Fan : Quote
llPa1nll Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Well before there was 2004. There was 2003,1986,1978... Quote
