Muddy that would be sweet. Cards or Mets, Detroit will be a handful. They sure looked good tonight.

Whew...Detroit flat wore out Barry Zito. 92 pitches in 3 2/3 innings. Ouch. Leyland has them doing exactly what he wants them to do. And that is going to take them a long way. I have Detroit in the Series and feel very confident saying that they get it done in 6. The Tigers are out-thinking the A's and the A's hit into waaaaaaay too many double plays....and the next two pitchers they face have awesome fly to groundball ratios. Not good for the A's.

BUT, tonights game is the star in my book. LET'S GET IT ON!!! Cards at Mets!!

Its Raining at Shea May have to wait an extra day for this to start

Boo. But yay because it benefits the Cards more than it hurts them. Carp can pitch game 2 if they lose game 1. I have yet to see an analyist that has picked the Cards. This is the first year in a while where we have been the underdog. I will definitely 150% not be cheering for the Mets at all in the playoffs from now on. The closest analyst to predicting the Cards winning was Tim Kurktjin who said the mets would win in 7. He brought up some good points such as the Cards have the best pitcher in the NL and the best player in baseball. Cards in 6 (changed my mind in the # games).

I think your right about the extra day. I think Detroit is the team to beat whether we get there or the Mets. Man do they look impresive. I will support the Mets if they get past us; I am a National League fan, although Leyland is a stand-up guy.

The A's are making it exciting in the ninth-not enough. ;)

hey do have the best Pitcher in the NL but Albert is not the best player in ther majors Just hear me out Howard had a better year, the yongster from the Mets (wright) is gettin there and Im gonna tell you who the best un the game has been for sometime He is a captain, excellent fieldr has great offensive numbers and is the consumate team player and he is on the team I hate the most JETER He is the best money player in the game If I had to build a team around anyone it owuld be him

I think you make a good case for Jeter. He is a great player and leader, but I would take Pujos over him. He a great player, and a good example on and off the field. He is a stand-up family man and gives back a lot to the St. Louis area. I really like the guy. Just my .02

But Pujols is the best one still playing.......Jeter is watching it on TV

So true

So I guess tonight is game 1 :-/

Lets get it on!!  Its not going to rain up there is it?

Hey, Muddy.  I've going to disagree with ya'.  Howard played 159 games this year, .313 avg, 58 homers, and 149 RBIs.  Let's see if Howard can do this every year.  Pujols played only 143 due to his injury which also affected him after he came back and he still batted .331, 49 homers, and 137 RBIs.  Plus, no player ever has put together a group of first six seasons like Pujols.  No one, and that includes the greatest players in history.  Jeter was probably the best clutch hitter this year, especially in the second half of the season, but he doesn't do it every year at the level that Pujols does.  Pujols doesn't get much credit as a fielder but he has improved tremendously here as well.  He only had 6 errors this year and a .996 fielding percentage.  Of course, I'm biased because Pujols is a Cardinal, but there is a reason why just about every sports commentator is calling Pujols the best hitter in baseball today.

I absolutley respect that and there is no doubt if Albert keeps it up he will be talked about like Rose,Maysand all the other greats of thier times. I think Jeter is alreday there b/c hes done it a while longer. I hate to see all those accolades going to ARod but then again its the Yankees WHO CARES!!!!!!!!!!

Here it comes Pujols vs. Jeter. Right now, playing or not playing, Albert is hands down the best player in the majors. Howard may have had a little bit better year this year but he wasnt hurt and this is his first good season. It takes more than one good year to be the best player in baseball. Jeter had a good year this year but it wasnt better than Pujols. And if he is so great how come he isnt playing in game 3 against the A's tomorrow. Jeter's stats are so good this year in part because look who is hitting around him. Every single player in the offense has been an allstar. Yes they had injuries but so did the Cards. Jeter still had Abreu, ARod, Giambi, Cano, and Posada hitting around him. The Yankees would have won most if not all of those world series without Jeter because of the players playing around him. With all of those players he still didnt make it to the second round this year. Pujols has carried the Cards on his back all season stumbling into the playoffs. If Albert can take this team all the way, then everyone will know he is the best player in the league.

Steinbrenner's check book cares....I can already feel it reelin in another WS in 2007

deep pockets cant buy everything.

For 1/4 billion dollars I bet that would buy a realy nice replica of a WS trophy instead of hoping to win one. ;)

Whew, good game so fars fellas! I personally think the Cards COULD be leading at this point if not for a few mental errors on the basepaths and some stellar Mets defense. Gotta go...games back on!

Hey Bassmasta we usually agree on most things concerning the diamond but this one is gonna be our point of diasgreement PUILOJOS has NO WS RINGS yet and Jeter not only has them he captianed and led the team through them MVP may be a numbers thing to the sports writers but to some fans we take it to a whole other level

Lets talk about hitting JETER DOSENT SWING AT MUCH THAT IS OUTTA THE STRIKE ZONE this is well known through outthe leauges. Jeter game one vs Tigers  5 hits why b/c they threw him strikes trying to pitch to him and get him out so ARod had one less to bring home THen GUESS WHAT AROD IS SLUMPIN FOR A CHANGE  they stop throwin strikes to Jeter b/c even if they walk him, it keeps the extra bases down and Arod will hit into a dp anyway So here who hes surronded by hurt

Look I hate the Yankees and I hate givin anyone of them credit I have never seen a ballplayer so young take such command of the moment he is in He is a leader of a powerhouse team his fielding is spectacular and his offense leaves little to be desired NAD HES DOIN IT FOR A WHILE and has the ring wear to show for it

When Albert accomplishes all of this he will be considered among the best |

Well...Weaver and the bullpen showed up to play...but the offense went  :P. That was a well played game though. I am very impressed with Weaver's pitching in that game. It's only 1-0 Mets...and Carp Vs. some other guy ;).

Lets talk about hitting JETER DOSENT SWING AT MUCH THAT IS OUTTA THE STRIKE ZONE this is well known through outthe leauges.

Jeter struck out 102 times this year.  Pujols struck out only 50 times.  Pujols is well-known for having the best eye in baseball.  Only once in his six seasons has his strikeout total been above 69 and that was his first season as a rookie when he struck out 93 times.  Jeter's strikeout total has never been below 88 and is usually over 100.

Having a ring doesn't make Jeter better.  It took 8 other players with him and a payroll the size of Manhattan.  If you replaced Pujols in the Cardinals lineup with Jeter they would not be in the playoffs.  They wouldn't even be close.  He has more of an affect on his team than Jeter has on his.  Hey, I know these are just opinions, but the strikeout thing is fact.  Jeter does not have the eye for the strike zone that Pujols has.   Look up the stats including game winning hits.  Pujols exceeds Jeter in just about every category.  Jeter only exceeds Pujols as a fielder.  'Nuf said for me.

Muddy_man, your Mets played some great defense last night and Glavine pitched masterfully.  Great game.  Sorry, but I can't brag on Beltran.  When he was with the Royals his mind and heart weren't in the game.  He made stupid fielding errors.  Once he went to the Astros and then the Mets, his play improved dramatically.  I can't respect a player who makes good money but will only play his heart out for a contender.

Hey enile They are both great players but when the money is on the line there is no more valuable player than Jeter FOR A LONGER PERIOD OF TIME AT THAT LEVEL!!!!!!!! Actually this is like a discussion about whats better Blondes or Redheads  Really dont matter does it ;D :o

The Cards need a win outta carpenter tonight I told you this can go 7 and will be a classic series I hope that I was right

Mets 4  Cards  3  Muddy Man 1 Rapala
