I actually didnt know the final score and walked in and asked " So did the Yanks win?"  I got the evil eye and ran off.  But it answered my question.  If the Yanks lose a whole series my buddy and I are going to anounce it over the intercom at work.  it ought to make about 95% of the building cheer and the 3 Yank fan a bit mad.  So come on Tigers.

GMAN, you really are looking for that fishing day....that would be pretty funny though

GMAN, true baseball fans either love or hate the Yankees so a true fan you are........it's just got to be awful hating them and being disappointed so often.....just think, if they win your boss will be in a good mood and you could hit him up for a raise  ;D ;D ;D

I'm a true baseball fan but I don't hate or love the Yankees.  I do get tired of them being there year-in and year-out, but then I'm sure alot of people were tired of the Braves making the playoffs every year too.  Some may be tired of the Cardinals as well.  No team has made it to the playoffs, played in as many championships, and won as many world series as the Yankees.  Of course in the last couple of decades I believe this is because of the lack of true revenue sharing in baseball.  (Look at what revenue sharing has done for the NFL.  Former commissioner, Pete Rozelle, is looking like a genius more and more, God rest his soul.)  A true baseball fan has to respect the Yankees' historical tradition even if he/she isn't a Yankees fan.  And after the Yankees, the Cardinals have won 9 world series and have appeared in 16.

Senile1,

your anylysis is certainly accurate, my comments were just some good natured bantering with GMAN, although as an avid  Yankee fan it does seem this way at times

As the title to the thread says....just letting a liitle trash fly around....my apologies for any offense

The greatest thing that would ever happen to baseball would be a salery cap.  It would make it a whole lot more interesting.  You would have to find talent.  No more buying a good team of all star players.

Go Tigers Whoohoo

Dont worry Muddy I'm not getting fired.  Then the bosses would have to work.  You know management never wants to work its all about deligation.  But if I did get fired it would be nice to have a lure show up to my house for free.

Sorry, Riskkid.  I didn't mean to communicate that I was offended.  I'm not offended at all.  I just wanted to throw a viewpoint out there with some historical stuff to get some more talking going.

Hey Riskkid it didnt seem like Senile was put off or anything I think he was poltiley stokin the coals. We have over 500 posts on this thread and there has been a great amount of kidding between us fans I cant tell you guys how grateful I am that we have all these BB fans and I hope this thread goes all the way through the world series I bet this is the longest non fishing thread on this forum and I believe we are all havin a good time with it ;)

I bet its the longest thread on this awsome board.

So Muddy,  if the Mets win and the cards win I guess we will be the next matchup right.  Maybe we will get some primetime exposure.

This may be the longest thread of any on this forum.  It's fun to talk baseball.

I know what you mean.  Do you guys think LBH will watch the world series sitting next to his Red Sox chronies on a big screen? ;D

Posted

No prob senile, just glad I didn't offend you.

I think LBH and his Beantown buddies will skip watching the WS so they can replay the DVD of the 2004 post season.....after all history shows it will be another 80 some years before it happens again  ;D ;D ;D

About that salary cap....lets see... we have Wang, Rivera, Posada, Cano, Jeter, Williams, Cabrera, Matsui (we are the 1st US team for him), and Phillips who we brought into the league. Think we'd still have a pretty good system under a cap. Say what you will about The Boss, he's competitive enough and willing to do what it takes to git er done. I beleive he would invest heavily in the farm system if thats what winning demanded in a different set of rules. I like the fact that he's willing to spend alot of it rather than sticking it all back in his pocket.

I dunno about the Unit....been inconsistent and has that back thing goin on...may need that AARP disabilty insurance tonight

The Yankees would be big trouble if they made a salary cap even if it was at like $150 million. The cards at the start of the season was under $90 million but picking up weaver, Wilson, and Belliard IDK what it is now.

Man,I just had to turn down 3rd row seats down the 3rd base line for St.Louis tomorrow.

The Mets are lucky they are taking on a team that is crippled!

Riskkid, you may already be aware of this, but your Yankees and my Cardinals have a major connection.

I remember in 1971 when I was in my 2nd year of little league baseball.  Joe Torre, current manager for the Yankees, played for the Cardinals and led the league in batting that year with a .363 average.  He also had  24 home runs.  I don't remember his RBI total but I'm pretty sure if you look it up, he had over 100.   He never achieved anything close to those stats again, but that was his career year.

Bummer CJ......better go fishin to make you feel better about it  :-/

Bassmasta....I'm not so sure the Yanks would be in big trouble under a cap....they have a great GM with an excellent scouting and farm system. The cap would require reloading consistently from a talented farm system. Steinbrenner would probably funnel the money into scouting and the farm system. Baseball is different from football or basketball in that they do not have colleges acting as their minor leagues and get to draft high level talent in a given order. The talent baseball drafts is very inexperienced and is international......the teams are the ones who develop the talent which IMHO is why a CAP in baseball would be a different animal. There is alot of talent out there that was traded..... young prospects going to non contenders for for high dollar vets going to contenders.. I would think with a cap the Yankees would look more like the teams of the 50's. Bottom line.....without high dollar free agents and big contract trades it gets down to who has the best scouts and farm system and the Yankees are right up there.

Senile ......you are exactly right.....only difference is I had already retired from little league  ;D

Another thing I remember is the Cards beating the Yanks in the 1964 WS....after that it was all downhill for the Yanks....CBS owned them and it showed....

I know everyone has an opinion on The Boss but when he bought them he sure turned it around......and this Yankee fan is grateful....I actually sat behind him at an exhibition game when the Yankees played our minor league team here in Nashville many moons ago (we were their AA club at the time....Mattingly was our star). He was really nice, spoke with everyone, signed all the autographs he was asked to all game long, answered questions, and acted just like he was one of us regular fans.

Hey CJ whata mean we are playing a crippled team, our 3 best pitchers went down for the season this week :-/

IMHO I think revenue sharing would be more helpful ti MLB

The Yankees Cable contract could probably pay te saliresof every starting pitcher in their division. The Mariners(they play in another country called Seattle) have a contract that just about ccovers 2 of their 5 starters. So sharing the cable $ is one way to even things out The Yankees need teams to play and all should share in the Loot for MLB to survive ;)

Hats off to Verlander and Rogers............

It ain't over yet.....BUT......Hey Muddy....if we go out I'm gonna have to jump on the Amazins bandwagon with ya......guess its just a NY state of mind

That bunch from the bay looks mighty good!

ill tell you right now if we lose this series today then steinbrenners head will pop off and he will just sign the starting line up from this years all star game, even though half of our team was already on it. How can we not win with the lineup we have? And the last thing I wanted to see was Jaret Wright on the mound when the season is on the line. If we win today then I think we have a good chance once we go back home to NY but our chances aren't looking good today. And what was up with pulling sheff last night. I know he had an off game the day before but come on, Bernie is 53 years old and Giambi is still pulling those syringes out of his back, we need Sheff in there and especially against the lefty. I just hope all goes well tonight and Wright won't go crazy and stay in control of the game.

Boy...the Cards are looking pretty rough today...down 3-0 in the 5th. Suppan hasn't been pitching very well this game. Been missing his spots and getting worked to a lot of full counts. The defense is lookin' a little shaky today too for some reason. The Cards are lookin' a little anxious at the plate too. Back in the 4th Young struck out the side which consisted of Pujols, Edmonds, and Rolen. He made all three of 'em look pretty bad. Got Pujols on a check swing, Edmonds on three pitches, and Rolen swingin' at a pitch around his neck. Good thing we don't absolutely have to win this one, cuz it's lookin' like it's gonna be a little tough to do so.  :-/

I just got home from the lake and turned the game on.  I see what you're saying, Valascus.  It sounds like Carpenter will pitch tomorrow if we lose today.  My fingers are crossed though.  I don't want to use up Carpenter if we don't have to.

Now that we lost one i think we have to pitch Carp tomorrow because i definitely dont want Reyes pitching. I just got home from umpiring and was dissappointed to see the Cards lost and Georgia Tech not lookin' good. In college football there have been a ton of upsets today and in baseball there have been big upsets today. At least we have Carp pitching tomorrow. Against Peavy again hopefully??
