Siebert Outdoors Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 I was talking about the pirates. Yeah I know they swept us last time. Worst team in the league beat us. Happens again the cards should just be removed from the standings. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Hey Gman every great team has a bad team that pesters them In the mid to late 70's the LA DODGERS were a powerhouse club and the Mets were  lets say HORRIBLE the only team the Mets had a winning pct against in those years was the Dodgers IT BE THAT WAY SOMETIMES Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 How many posts do you think this topic will be up to at the end of baseball season? Quote

Super User K_Mac Posted August 25, 2006 Super User Posted August 25, 2006 YankeesWin, I have only one word for you-Philistine. ;D ;D ;D ;D Quote
YankeesWin Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 MUDDY, Thanks for starting this "crazy" thread!! I love to talk baseball, but when you mentioned College Wrestling :o Maybe we can start a thread about that later. Being an Iowa boy, I grew up with a mat in my basement and had my first pair of wrestling shoes when I was 5-6. I don't dare step on the mat these days (I'd break something for sure) but I still have a great passion for the sport. OOOHHHH YEAH!! "Let's go Yankees... Let's go Yankees... Let's go Yankees" Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 College wrestling is not my thing at all Dont know the first thing about a sport where two sweaty guys in minimal clothing are huggin eachother a little weird for me Quote
bassmasta7 Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 I believe I did say the Sox were going to miss the playoffs and someone said that we're gonna hold you to it. A lot of season left but I like my odds. Muddy, yeah david wright was injured so his numbers arent what they should be but that is why he wont win, he was injured and his numbers arent what they should be. Keep in mind, Albert was out over 2 weeks and his numbers are still outstanding. Personally I think there are 3 greatest Cardinals of all time that are all tied for first. Def. Stan Musial, Bob Gibson, and finally Rogers Hornsby. Ever heard of him. How about one the greatest right handed hitters of all time. He hit over .400 3 times and he has the highest batting avg all-time for right-handed hitters. He only hit 301hr. but that was at Sportsmans park where it was like 430 to center and 450 down the lines. I do think it is time to start mentioning Albert in the same breath as these guys. Stan vs. Alberts first 6 seasons albert has a 168 more hr, 276 more RBI, same number of SB, and more runs. Alberts career batting avg is higher, higher slg %, and higher OBP. I think albert was younger in his debut also. The only way Albert is not going to be as good as Stan would be if he got injured every year for the rest of his career. Albert is only 236hr behind Stan. ALBERT IS EL HOMBRE!! Quote

Guest the_muddy_man Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 You right You know before my dad passed away we went to Coopertown several times and He always went on about Hornsbys hitting I should know better But Ozzie goes on my Alltime Cards list also I agree that Puljos numbers are magnificant he just has to do it for a longer time to be an all time great Hes the second best player in the game Like I said I hate to admit but a %$)^&% Yankkee is the best right now and thats JETER no better leader or everyday player on the planet right now As far as Wright vs Puljos we both pullin for our homies partner Quote
YankeesWin Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 : Muddy... PLEASE don't swear in the same sentence when you mention Mr. Jeter.... PLEASE Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted August 26, 2006 Super User Posted August 26, 2006 You right You know before my dad passed away we went to Coopertown several times and He always went on about Hornsbys hitting I should know better But Ozzie goes on my Alltime Cards list also I agree that Puljos numbers are magnificant he just has to do it for a longer time to be an all time great Hes the second best player in the game Like I said I hate to admit but a %$)^&% Yankkee is the best right now and thats JETER no better leader or everyday player on the planet right now As far as Wright vs Puljos we both pullin for our homies partner muddy Ozzie will never make my list of Cardinal greats for the same the same reasons JETER is your best player. Jeter is an incredible player and a real leader on the field and in the clubhouse. Ozzie was never a leader in our clubhouse. IMO he was a devisive presence and was more concerned with his own agenda than the good of the team. The fact that he refuses to take part in official Cardinal activities is a testimony to his ego. Just ranting a little : Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Hey K-MAC that is an excellent point. I think the Cardinal organization is very good They have even had some Differences with Gibson but I never fully understood Ozzies problem there But he still is one of the best sshort tops and Cardinals of all times He once made an error in Shea stadium, on a day when all the elevator operators had gone on strike in NYC  The headline on the paper that day OZZIE BOOTS ONE  in NY we know whats important Yankees win I wouldnt cuss if i was jsut talking about Jeter its them%#($R*Yankees that bring the worst out in me  :-/ Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Little bit of this going on lately Quote
bassmasta7 Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 I remember earlier this year Tony LaRussa said something about how he will never go to a function or event with Ozzie Smith anymore and dont know if he ever said why. I never really liked ozzie. I think he was a great everyday player and spectacular defensively but I dont even think he is HOF worthy. That is pretty bad coming from a Cardinals fan prospective. Not to get back to the stats but his career batting avg was .262, .337 obp, 28hr, 793RBI, 2460hits. Offensively the only HOF worthy stat is 580SB and only 589SO. Maybe because the '85 NLCS walkoff homerun or maybe, in my opinion, the greatest play in the history of baseball back when he was with the padres. IDK if Jeter is the best player in baseball but i think he is the best leader and most valuable to his team. I think he holds that Yankees club together with all of those individual superstars. He is very clutch but I think he is probably behind a couple other players. Definitely #1 no contest is Big Papi. Jeter might be #2 with Pujols close behind (top of the 9th 2 outs down by 2 2strikes away from your seasoning ending against the most dominant closer in baseball). Jeter, if it is possible, is the most clutch defensive player in baseball. Â Quote
YankeesWin Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 OK Muddy, go ahead and cuss.......... YankeesWin ;D Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Hey Bassmast7 for a young man you rally know the game It is good to see that the tradition moves on  You have a good knowledge of the history and the stats. I think we differ b/c I always dont see stats as the difference which is crazy b/c baseball is a game of Stats  How bout this my favorite Met of all time will never make the hall of fame. MOOKIE WILSON he was a pest on base(which he frequently got on) was a sparkplug for the team and a joy in both the clubhuse and on the field for the fans.  Now hes the skipper of the Coney Island club(yes there is a team in Bklyn again) So just wanted to say that I respect your knowledge of the game and how you express your opinions NO MATTER HOW WRONG YOU ARE ;D ;D ;D Quote
