I expect a VERY high scoring game, but either team can win.

I will be surprised if this game is lopsided.

Ok, not to sound like a jerk or anything but has anyone been watching football the last three years? Defense... Indy's defense? Remember the talk of the super bowl being about how Indy was the first team "without" a defense to win a superbowl? They lost two of their key secondary players in the offseason this year and have two rookies at cornerback now. You honestly believe Bob Sanders and these guys can stop and contain Randy Moss, Laurence Maroney, Wes Welker, Dante Stallworth, and the best QB in football Tom Brady? Brady is flawless guys, look at his td to int ratio and look at the spectacular throws Moss is hauling in in double/triple coverage. Look at the stats of the Colts and their offense this year, yes while impressive, they take a seat to the Pats. These guys are incredible this year and I'll go with KU on this one. The Pats win by double digits. If anyone has a good defense it's New England to compliment their stellar offense. Vrabel, Bruschi, Seymour, Harrison, Samuel, etc. This team is nasty. Even if Indy's offense can keep Brady off the field when he does get on he's gonna be well rested, ready to pick apart their D, and quick to go downfield. The Colts cannot keep up.

Oh one more thing.  Not to mention Manning has beat Brady ONE time in his career.  Brady has owned him every other time.  Some of those games were double digit wins too, before he actually had a recieving core.

I don't disagree with your analysis and I don't have a dog in the fight, BUT...

Football games are won or lost on the field and this one has the fixin's for a dandy!

Okay, lets start with the first statement.   has anyone been watching football the last three years?

Obviously, you didn't watch the Colts or the Pats the last three years !!!~!!     Colts have won the last 3 meetings they have played.     So the second to last paragraph which stated Manning has beat Brady once in his career is bogus statement.     Manning has won the last three straight meetings.     Including last years come from behind 18 point come back in the AFC championship game.

Granted, Pats have won the last 2 out of 3 playoff games but the Colts have won 3 straight.

The last point about defense and the Colts.    Colts don't man up on the corners, haven't in the past 7 years, its zone all the way.

Opening day game between Saints and Colts,   Colts cornerback, or EX corner back Jason David, who left to go to the Saints got burned all day by his former QB, Peyton Manning, why did he get burned so bad while playing for New Orleans?      NewOrleans had him in man coverage, something he never had to do in Indy.

Exactly what good teams have the Pats faced.       Theres only one real team to show how the Pats did, and that was Dallas, who did put 27 on them.    Dallas played them for almost 3 quarters, something no one has done.

Funny how the Champs are the team to start undefeated in the past 3 seasons and they get no respect.

Who has stopped the Colts the last three seasons?     Not many!!!

The team that trys to run the ball more than they have,(above season average)  will probably be out of rythym and lose their first.

I'm taking the Colts, they are the Champs, still unbeaten also, and have plenty to be upset about for not getting any respect.

Any body remember Moss and Minnesota,  came out and set the all time scoring record with Culpepper and Moss, Carter.       What did they win that year?

I'll take Adam Vinateri to beat his old team.     31-27

To me the Colts look beatable. VERY good .... but beatable. Tennessee, Houston, and the Broncos (for 3 quarters) all played the Colts close.

The Pats have pretty much had every game won from the opening kick off. Weak schedule or not, that is an accomplishment in the NFL.

Pats in another snoozer ... 38-17

What KU said.

Also it really is a divisional issue. The NFL needs to either rework some of these divisions or there is never gonna be a "tough" schedule for the Pats. They have the Jets, Bills, and Dolphins for a total of 6 games. That's an easy 6 wins under their belt almost guaranteed. Aside from the fact that the division rivalry between the Jets and New England can sometimes be pretty close games.

The Colts naturally have a harder division with teams like the titans and jaguars in there, heck even the texans this year have given them a run for a while. So they naturally are going to have a bit tougher schedule at least for 4-5 games. This game is actually the first real test for either team. Dallas is an NFC team, and while good in their elements (against nfc teams) they don't comapre to the AFC.

I still don't think the Colts hold a stick to the pats even though they are the champs and are undefeated. The Pats have alot better D than the Colts this year on paper. Stats may be close, but on paper the players on the New England D should eat the Colts alive.

Another factor is the fact that Brady kills zone coverages. The Indy D better come up with some great looks to throw Brady off, and even then they have to get through New Englands O-line.

I forgot to mention one more element.  New England has depth at almost all positions especially on offense.  Brady can throw to anyone and now they have Sammy Morris in the backfield, and Wes Welker as a number three type reciever.  They can put Vrabel in the game at TE, FB, WR, RB, etc.  They can even throw to number two and three tight ends like Kyle Brady.  Too many weapons here.

Okay, not to sound like a Jerk, but JC,    have you watched football at all????????

Manning has won the last 3 straight, by the way,  Brady won the first 6 straight,

There you go, they have played 9 times total.      And as for the receiving core over the years, he's had some good weapons out of the backfield to go along with these receivers who got bigger contracts with teams willing to pay them

One thing the Pats haven't tried to do is pay the better receivers.

Anybody remember Deion Branch, who got paid to play for Seattle i think.

How about David Patten, or David Givens, or Terry Brown, or Troy Brown.

Brady by the numbers is bettter than Mannings numbers, but don't make excuses that don't exist.      If these guys didn't have talent, they wouldn't be in the NFL or called PRO.

Brady didn't get those numbers by not completing, obviously some one was good enough to catch all those passes since starting in 2001.

And I didn't mention his LB/TE whos been pretty impressive, Vrabel.

I'll still take the Colts in close one.

Matt,

Lets look at the facts:

The Pats are number 1 in total offense and number 1 in passing.

The Pats are number 3 in defensive yards per game.

The Colts are number 3 in total offense and number 6 in passing.

The Colts are number 4 in total defensive yards per game.

My money is on the Pats!!!  Brady is going to eat up the Colts and spit them out.  No one in the Colts defense is going to be able to stop all of the talented receivers (Moss, Welker, Stallworth and Brady to name a few) on the Pats.  They are going to have to double cover some of the Pats receivers, when they do Tom Brady will pick them apart.  The Pats also have solid depth at running back (Maroney, Evans, Morris and Faulk).  New Englands defense will also contain Manning because of all the talented defensive players (Bruschi, Vrabel, Seau, Wilfork, Semour, Harrison, Samuels and Thomas to name a few).  This game will not even be close, the Pats will run up the score on the Colts just like they did on the Redskins.  As for respect, please the Pats have always been disrespected time and time again, so put the argument to bed, it means nothing.  Peyton has won the last three matches but he will not win this one, the tables are about to be turned back in favor of the Pats.  Who have the Colts played that are worth talking about, no one, their schedule has been a joke.  The Colts have not been as impressive as the Patriots and they are not as hungry for the win as the Pats.  I just don't want to hear you whine like the Redskins fans when Indy is blown out.  This is the NFL and running up the score just means you want to prove how dominant you are, and the Pats will do that again this weekend.  Pats win by 21!!!!

Hey Matt,

I forgot about 2005 and the down year the Pats had against the Colts (and the one loss in 2004), but if you look at the series between the two Brady obviously has the better record.  I used to get caught up in my dad always saying "Manning can't beat Brady", blah blah blah cause he's a die hard New England fan.  But I didn't really pay attention to them last year.  I have paid quite a bit of attention THIS year and know that the reason the announcers jump on New England's band wagon is because Indy doesn't line up against them.  Brady is on pace to break the record Manning set for td passes not too long ago.  That's impressive.  Remember all the talk when Manning was going for that record?  It's all you heard about.  The Pat's just have a lot going for them.  They look better than the 3 squads that won superbowls for them this decade.

The Colts are a great team don't get me wrong, but after this week they are going to be known as the second best team in the NFL.  I actually can't wait to see what happens to this thread after the game (who comes back, who doesn't talk anymore, etc).  Should be interesting come Sunday.

Everyone looks at the Stats being thrown out.    Sounds like some Bass research and only the data that applies to the study is used to make a point.

Colts havent lost since last year.     Colts have taken the undefeated streak far into each season.    Colts have already beaten their div. on the road this year, which is by far a lot more competitive than the Pats div. or anyone else they played thus far.

I say if the Colts played the same schedule that the Pats did, it still would look like Pats are better team.    Dungy has too much class to run the scores up and pad the teams stats.

I'll take the -5 1/2 points that will be the game time spread and the colts at home.

Brady does currently own the series and most of the stats, last time I checked, Manning was still gonna play even though the media and most say its blow out.

We'll see just how bad they do get beat.

Im a huge Patriots fan Im sure everyone knows that by now. To have some posters say that the Colts havent played anyone is being absurd. Tennessee and Jacksonville are two good teams that play hard smashmouth football, they are both in the Colts Div. Other who have said that we have depth at RB need to read up. Maroney is banged up but will play and Morris is out with a chest injury, Addai is a beast. I do feel the Patriots will win but to say that Indy has no chance is absurd. The start of the season there where 4 games that worried me that the Patriots had on their schedule. This was the Biggest worry I had going inside the dome to play Indy. The other were Chargers, Cowboys, Steelers. It will be a great game, I cant wait.

I hope this game goes down to who has the ball last, wins.     This could be the best game of the year, and could be a yawner.

Good luck to all, I have no dog in the fight other than saying the Pats have been running the stats up and Tony Dungy has more class than to do that.

I'm hoping that Indy wins on last second FG from EX Pats KICKER, Vinateri.

The Titans and Jags are a joke period, they are marginal teams at best.  When is the last time either of them won a playoff game?  For that matter how many times in the last couple of years have either of these teams made the playoffs.  Like I stated that division is not a tough division to play in.  The PATS will win by 21!!!

If you don't want a team to run up the score on you, put a defense on the field that can play. This is the NFL not pee wee football!!!  Stop the whining about running up the score.

Well look at the Jets they were the AFC WC in the playoffs last year now look at them. They made no big moves in the off season lost nobody of great importance. Yet they are playing terrible, only Miami is worse in the AFC East they havent been formidable since they lost Ricky Williams.

I posted earlier saying the Pats would win, I still think that will happen. If the Colts want to win this one, they will have to get good press coverage on the Pats receivers. If you give those guys 5 yards or more they will take the small yardage all day long.  You have to double cover Moss, but Welker is a dang good receiver as well and if you double cover two receivers you leave the running game wide open. I think if the Colts can cover those two and still manage to put some pressure on Brady then they can win.

It will definately be an offensive game, but  the defenses will decide the outcome. I don't think that it will be a blowout by either side. Both teams are the class of the leauge and unless the Chargers get their total act together I think this will be the AFC playoff preview.

Colt secondary predominantly play zones, very seldom do they play man.    So thats not in the game plan.     Remember opening weekend, the colts and the saints, saints acquried the cornerback from Indy's SB defense.  Payton torched that poor guy, he never had to play man in Indy, and it showed.

Rondel,

Don't confuse crying over pointing out the not so obvious.      I merely said NE hasn't taken the foot of the gas, so their stats are gonna be better, alot better.    Therefore, the Colts have scored high numbers, and if you allowed Payton to continue running the offense, the gap between the two teams wouldn't look one sided.

Next,    If its your honest opinion that Tenn and Jax are jokes, and the schedule Indy has played is weak compared to who the Pats have faced, you really don't follow football.    You need to really look at the numbers.    Those defenses are tough and amoung the best.    I don't know what you have been watching, but the Titan aren't pretty to watch, but they didn't have losing record last year,  and are currently 5-2, did n't Jax have ten win season last year?  5-2 or 6-2 this year.

Lets see, the key to good teams starts with solid defenses, they have that.    They have both been winning the last two seasons, and its easier to build an offense.    Jax and Tenn have good running game.

Jack Del Rio record speaks for itself, and Jeff Fischer isn't to shabby either.

Go Navy!!!!

I think the Colts can take them down. No one gives them a chance when they play the Patriots.  Can't wait to watch this one.

Colts win 35 to 24.  (Just a guess).    ;D

Ok so chances are this will be the the future AFC championship game. But I was watching sportscenter this morning and if these two are the teams that make it to the AFC championship, History favors the team that looses the regular season game. I know 2 examples Burman gave were the Pats the first time they won the superbowl. They lost to the Steelers in the last game of the regular season, but beat them in the AFC Championship game, they others were the Giants (dont remember when though) and I'm pretty sure the 99 St Louis Rams were the other example. History always repeats itself so hopefully the Pats loose this game, lol.  Never though I would say that.

Have to say I agree with Matt on this one.

What we have here is possibly two of the best built, best quaterbacked, and best coached teams in history,IMO.This game has the makings of being better than any superbowl we've seen in a long time.Or could be a yawner. But I don't think so.But, for the Pats.to go to Indy,in the dome(12 game home win streak)and not give the Colts the respect that they have earned(THE CHAMPS),Is just not very smart, and could possible be there down fall. But I bet Brady and the boys are a little more worried about it than Pats. fans.I have been to Indy in the dome, man that place rocks, talk about noise,WOW  And very well might be the most hostile place the Pats have played so far(well since Jan. and I think we all remember how that went) ;)

 rondef

 You said

The Titans and Jags are a joke period,Like I stated that division is not a tough  division to play in.  ::)

Houston is the worst team in Indy's division, and they are statisticly better than any team in the Pats division.(and almost as good as any team the Pats have faced all year)So if the teams in Indy's division are a joke, and not tough then what does that make the pats division......

    tin2win,

Very interesting stuff. But be careful what you wish for. This game very well could deciede home feild advantage If I were a Pats fan the last place i'd want to go in Jan. IS INSIDE THE DOME(again) :)

My gut says the Colts, in a who ever has the ball last wins rumble. But well see I think it will be one h#ll of a game, whoever wins.

good luck to all :)
