And this is no mountain lion! We're talking a 250-300 pound African male lion. Here's the story.

Reward For Mystery Lion

Reporter: The Associated Press

Email Address: news@wsaz.com

2007 - If an African lion is roaming the mountains of southeastern West Virginia, Angus Peyton wants it captured, not killed.

Peyton is offering a $3,000 award for the safe and humane capture of the lion.

He also wants the animal to be placed in refuge.

The Charleston broker says he fears someone may try to shoot the lion.

Bow hunter Jim Shortridge swears he saw a male African lion weighing between 250 and 300 pounds at the foot of Cold Knob Mountain earlier this month.

Rainelle-based Tiger Mountain Refuge and Greenbrier County animal control officer Robert McClung have placed motion-sensitive video cameras in that area in hopes of getting an image of the lion.

-----------------------

There are several reports of this lion so far. My dad told me about it, and naturally I was skeptical, but I think this story is for real.

Man, just imagine sitting in the woods and this thing comes wandering by. I would be scared to death, lol. :o

My, and here I was afraid of a Vigrinia wolf now we've got to worry about lions too.

WOW. you guys have a zoo nearby?

Nope, no zoos in West Virginia.  There is a farm where it is believed the lion came from; the owner of the pond is the one offering the $3,000 reward.

I have to agree that lion would have to pay with its life for my stained drawers.

Gather up the boys, time for a cheap safari.

I shotgun the pickup.  I'll carry the rifle, and you guys go with the net and capture him.  I'll be waiting in the pickup when you get back.
