Super User Catt Posted October 12, 2007 Super User Posted October 12, 2007 I'm 100% Cajun & Cajuns like to argue Many times after a healthy argument I'll end up changing my opinions and agree only to find the topic locked; while I can PM the person I prefer to do it publicly. Sometimes what is perceived to be sarcastic to others is in reality an inside joke between members who either know each other personally or chat privately. One that really gets under my skin is the misconceptions concerning structural problems with boats; I have 15 years experience in the Aero Space industry as a manufacturing engineer where temporary fixes can cause lost of life, so I have to remind myself that for some people temporary fixes are acceptable to some. Over all the mods here do an outstanding job; Remember if you're wrong admit it, if you are right shut up
dave Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 In the big scheme, all of us being bass fisherman is insignificant. What we all are and share in common is that we are all HUMAN. We are flawed. There are always going to be clashes when human interact with humans. Apologize, forgive and then forget. The ability to do that makes us human also. There is a saying in some fabrication fields. Measure twice, cut once. Maybe think twice, post once. This EVERYTHING ELSE board has very recently become one of my favorites to view. How many times can you read the same fishing related topic dozens of times over? This board is guys (and girls) talking about life and such. CONGRATULATIONS on being human!
Siebert Outdoors Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 That's a quick lesson in what rednecks do for fun. ;D I resemble that remark. Yes, he is right.
Super User senile1 Posted October 13, 2007 Super User Posted October 13, 2007 I have been working too much. I guess I'm missing most of the brouhahas. I have seen some senior members mix it up but I didn't think it was any more than I've seen in the past. I've disagreed with Glenn LBH, RW, Muddy, and who knows who else and I don't think any of us have walked away from it with a chip on our shoulder. If I want to express disagreement, I always remember one rule: No matter how sure one is that he/she is right, always consider there is the possibility that one's OPINION is wrong. There is always that possibility so there is no reason for disrespect. I try to see the other person's point of view, as if I were a third, impartial party listening to the disagreement. Sometimes, I learn something and change my mind. I think fourbizzle and Papa Rock had some good points about disagreements. It seems the members disagreed in the past without going beyond the "line." Now, it seems, there is an expectation that disagreements will turn into disrespectful, heated discussions and for some reason, I guess some of them do.
BadKarma42 Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 I tend to agree with Fourbizzle's post here. It's the internet. I find it odd that people appear to get incredibly ticked off when someone posts something they don't like or have seen posted several times before. I have this picture in my head of people sitting at home or work or wherever throwing stuff, yelling, screaming, cussing because of what someone else posted. Are there cliques on here? It sure appears so. Could this be intimidating to a newer person? Probably. Do I really care about people's feelings that I have never met nor intend to meet? Not really. Does this make me a jerk in some people's eyes? Probably. Do I loose sleep over it? Not at all. Do I find entertainment and humor in observing the arguments and "virtual relationships"? Absolutely. Have I learned things on here about fishing? Yep. Not everyone gets along. Not everyone agrees. Some people ever see the same thing differently. That is the reality of life. I would rather read things as they are as opposed to having to filter through a bunch of filler because people have to write a page and a half explaining why the hope they don't step on somebody's toes.

Super User cart7t Posted October 14, 2007 Super User Posted October 14, 2007 I'm a member of a couple Open wheel (Indy car) racing forums. Whether you follow the sport or not, that form of racing has been suffering from the equivalent of a strike for the past 11 years. There are basically 2 factions of fans who DON'T get along with one another. The forums for those series are basically one thread after another of posters attacking one another. I have to check my attitude at the door before I come in here but let me say that this place is nothing compared to those places. I've also seen a couple of competing Florida fishing forums challenge each other to a fishing tournament and then things really got out of hand with the trash talking as members crossed over onto the others board and it went haywire. One side contacted the employers of the other side showing the kind of posts they were making while they were supposed to be working, one site got shut down permanently...it got ugly. Reality is, when you've got 11,000 people that check into one place, disagreements are going to happen. Personalities are going to rub. disputes are going to happen. It's the job of the forum members to try and think twice before hitting the post button. It's the mods job to recognize the posters who continually keep rubbing people the wrong way and then ask them to tone it down. If they don't, then vacations are in order. Honestly though, this place is relatively peaceful. I've seen much, much worse.
boondocks Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 I must be missing some of these negative posts and posters you guys are talking about. From what I have seen the members on this board do a heck of job treating each other with respect. The Mods on this site are doing a heck of job also. I'm a member of a lot of other fishing and hunting sites and this out classes them by leaps and bounds. I believe it all has to do with the moderaters, what they tolerate and what not. There is nothing wrong with friendly disagreements but name calling and insulting other members opinions just because they don't agree with you isn't friendly and shouldn't be tolerated IMO. It all depends on what kind of site you want to run.
Super User senile1 Posted October 14, 2007 Super User Posted October 14, 2007 Boondocks, you are correct. It is the way this site is run that keeps it from becoming a free-for-all. And some of us don't agree 100 percent with where the line is drawn in cutting off threads to make sure of this. (See the Closed Posts thread in the Everything Else forum.) I am one of those who disagrees to a minor extent. The great thing is Glenn has the dignity and wisdom to allow us to question his policy in the Closed Posts thread without cutting off the debate. He sticks to his guns but he does give our suggestions consideration. I think that is all you can ask for. This is not meant to be a bubbly "everything is wonderful" post. It is a statement of fact, and this fact is one of the reasons I respect those who run these forums.
Painter Dude Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Cart said it best---"Reality is, when you've got 11,000 people that check into one place, disagreements are going to happen. =Matt 5.0= Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Bottom line.....it's fishing.... Like I said during our last time out with tin2win "we come out here at 2:30 in the morning, try to catch this green thing....take a picture of it, and then put it back..." Why all the stress between everyone. It's.......just.........fishing........
frogtog Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 All I want to do is Belong. ( Where do I fit in at?) I'm waiting for an answer.
preach4bass Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 Frogtog, Where do you fit in? From reading your posts on BR you belong on a stage with a microphone in your hand doing stand-up comedy. ;D From fishing against you you belong in the winners circle.
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted October 15, 2007 Author Posted October 15, 2007 You belong in Guntersville this March, that's where!!

Now my Monday morning is ruined and I have no other choice but to pout and stew over this all day and then go home and beat the dog. I am kidding of course. Insert smiley here so everyone knows....
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted October 15, 2007 Super User Posted October 15, 2007 He isnt kidding about beating the dog....Poor Shooter.....
nboucher Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 I hope this doesn't turn into one of those either/or choices: either it's the internet and everyone can say what they want or everyone has to love one another. My feelings aren't easily hurt (I've been married too longtwice), so my tolerance for heated debate is probably higher than many here. Still, it's really up to Glenn and the mods to control the tone however they see fit. The internet, after all, allows anyone to set up any kind of forum but once it's set up it belongs to whoever runs it. The internet may be a democracy, but individual sites are not. In my view, too many people post too often. So here's a radical suggestion to the mods. Get rid of that star system above people's avatars and do not list their number of posts. I suspect that encourages people to post too readily in order make it up the hierarchy and become a four-star general like the big boys. I think a "classless" system like this, where there are just members, period, is more consistent with internet culture and would help create the feeling that we are all equal here. Mods and advertisers could still be noted somehow, but the rest of us would simply be the rank-and-file.
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted October 15, 2007 Author Posted October 15, 2007 Norman- Certainly not a 1 or the other situation, this post was merely to bring to light why we are all here. An awareness thread, that's all.
