Super User 5bass Posted October 12, 2007 Super User Posted October 12, 2007 I just got in from the lake and LBH has a great thread going.....I hope everyone can take the time to read the other posts and reply with your own thoughts as well. Getting input from alot of members, especially on a topic like this will only help make things better for all of us. I would like to see things go back to the way they were a couple of years ago.....laid back, just chewin' the fat about bass fishin'.
Super User flechero Posted October 12, 2007 Super User Posted October 12, 2007 We do our best man. I was thinking more along the lines of starting this thread,.....in hopes it would trigger a reaction for the adults here to step up and get along. Well I guess I should open mouth, insert foot! :-[ Yes, you do an awesome job! My point was that you guy do a great job 99% of the time.... you giving us extra latitude is very cool but also can be a reason for some things going too far. As an example: me and avid, in the wife thread. Hope that made sense as it was intended. Sorry for the confusion. Keith
Super User fourbizz Posted October 12, 2007 Super User Posted October 12, 2007 Why do we have to "get along" to be adults? Say what is on your mind and take the consqeuences. I don't believe in biting my toungue and singing cumbaya when I disagree with someone, and appreciate it when someone will man up and stand behind what they believe in when it contradicts what I am saying. As far as the "you should only say what you would if they were in the same room", I AGREE! Yep, there are people who I just don't care for here, and I am sure that there are many more that feel the same way about me. BFD! It's OK not to be buddy buddy with everyone! Don't take it all so personal! There are worse things than having someone 2,000 miles away, that you've never met, dislike you!
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 12, 2007 Super User Posted October 12, 2007 So, Burly how, in your opinion, does one "blow off steam?" I'm not talking about this site specifically, but any site where like-minded people tend to congregate and where differences of opinion are bound to happen? Good old fashioned hissy fit arguments. That or a case of 22LR, a spotlight and a trash dump. That aint going to happen here. You gotta find someplace else for that.
Super User Gatorbassman Posted October 12, 2007 Super User Posted October 12, 2007 I've been thinking all day about how I could add to this. When Glenn asked me to be a mod I had no clue what I was getting myself into. All I knew it that I loved this site and I knew it was a good thing and I wanted to help any way I could. So that's what I do and that's what I will continue doing. I know I am the quietest of the Mods. Y'all don't hear from me much because most of the work I do is behind the scenes. I go to the forums for the pure enjoyment. I don't like to edit or delete a post. It takes away from my enjoyment. I have read a few post that talk about us banning members. I can count on one hand how many actual contributing members we have banned in the last two years. We will go out of our way to keep from doing that. All of you are my brothers, from the newest to the oldest members. I have enjoyed getting to know each of you through your posts and your many experiences in fishing and in life. It breaks my heart when one of my brothers has difficulty getting along with another or one has trouble expressing himself in a respectable manner. I have watched some of you learn from these experiences and change for the better and others hurt or become hardhearted and turn away. My hope is that we will all learn from these growing pains and come out of it with something that will help you through some rough times in your own lives. My favorite part of this website are the young members. Not just the ones that have been around for a while but all the young guys. I enjoy watching their knowledge and love for bass fishing grow with each passing day. I take pride in the fact that we have something different. We have a place that many of these young men can find someone to look up to, someone to become a mentor and a role model. In a world of deadbeat dads and bad influences everywhere. We have a place packed full of good, caring men that these young guys can learn some life lessons from. Some of you may not think that these kids can pick up those type things from a forum but I'm here to tell you they can. They are a lot smarter then we sometimes give them credit for and they are like sponges when they see how we handle difficult things in our lives. By our example some of these kids will make the right decisions in their lives and grow up to become contributors to society. I have been involved in Boy Scouts for 25 years and I have been there and seen it happen way to many times. We have something special here. Fluke

Guest muddy Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 It just hit me , reading what the Mods and some of the other guys have written. Bottom line the site as a whole is really more important than any of us, but for it to work in the fashion that drew me here, I have to be accountable for my own conduct. If I drag others into my personal crap, it hurts the forums as a whole, this is where the membership responsibility lies while the mods do thier thing 8-)
Super User Long Mike Posted October 12, 2007 Super User Posted October 12, 2007 OK, Burley, you have confirmed that you are willing to shoot someone if they do not agree with you. I can only assume that in any pre-murder disagreement, you would have no problem with negative innuendo and outright insult.

No, I said I would blow off steam by going to a dump or a corn crib and commencing a rat holocaust. :-/
Super User Gatorbassman Posted October 12, 2007 Super User Posted October 12, 2007 You guys didn't get what burley was saying about the .22 and the dump. Rats and mice have eyes that reflect well in the spotlight. A little target practice is a good way to burn off steam.
Super User Gatorbassman Posted October 12, 2007 Super User Posted October 12, 2007 That's a quick lesson in what rednecks do for fun. ;D

We dont like to edit and delete posts or send pm's when someone is rocking the boat but we have to. We have to keep the ship from tipping over. Some people get offended when we edit their posts, some dont. We cant discriminate on who we edit/delete/ban. But its nothing personal, really.

Burley...+1 8-) p.s We don't have any Rednecks in Tennessee.
Super User Jimzee Posted October 12, 2007 Super User Posted October 12, 2007 Well I wasn't gonna post on this thread but I have to say a few things about the situation. I guess I am one of those thick skinned individuals on the forum. I lurked on this site from Oct. 06 to Mar. 07 reading and getting to know everyone. I joined for the same reason most of you have, the love of the sport and talking about it with fellow anglers. 8-) With that said, I haven't noticed a problem lately with the forum. Maybe I'm just naive or thick skinned like I stated earlier. Sure, there is a little drama every once in a while but for the most part, it is just people helping people and talking about fishing. I think BR is the same as it was when I found it a year ago. Kudos to the mods and the people who post on this site. I look forward to it everyday now. If there is indeed a problem with the forum not being like it was a few years back, we will work it out together.

The written word is not the best conveyance for sarcasm, dry wit, or pithy remarks. Which isn't a good thing for me since that's all I've got... :-X
Super User burleytog Posted October 12, 2007 Super User Posted October 12, 2007 p.s We don't have any Rednecks in Tennessee. ;D ;D ;D Yeah, and there aren't any hippies in San Francisco.

Super User Long Mike Posted October 12, 2007 Super User Posted October 12, 2007 Burley, you have my deepest apologies. It never occured to me that you would be spotlighting varmints when you brought up the subject. I grew up in the country, but I guess I've been in the city too long,
Super User burleytog Posted October 12, 2007 Super User Posted October 12, 2007 Mickey, why would I need a whole box if that was my purpose. 8-) ;D
Super User grimlin Posted October 12, 2007 Super User Posted October 12, 2007 Sorry i just had to do it! Funny thing is i was just watching that on TV as i was reading this.Talk about scary! I've been online for over 5 years and talked on countless message boards.Over my experience it's easier to open up.I can bet if anything, most of us are pretty quite easy going guys/gals.
PaparockArk Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 I post now and again but rarely since I came back to the forum. It just seems to me that there is a different feeling to the atmosphere in the forum than when I originally joined back around the same time as Muddy and Avid. Back then if someone posted on something and you disagreed with the post you posted your points of disagreement with explanations as to why but without sarcasm. There was no calling the post disgusting, or ridiculing the other poster. I remember so many new members back then commenting on how surprised they were that members here could disagree yet be so respectful to each other and how different this forum was in that way to other forums. It can be that way again. Like LBH said "Lead by example guys, rise above, forgive and accept."
edbassmaster Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 Very well said Russ, you have my total respect and I wish everyone could think like this. Ive seen it often here too.
