BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted October 11, 2007 BassResource.com Administrator Posted October 11, 2007 Unabasser - you got spanked because of the way you presented your opinions, not because of your opinions. You also attacked another member in the process. Not exactly the way to get me to throw out the welcome mat for you. By the looks of your post, it sounded to me like you don't like this site, don't like the members, nor the way I run it. Didn't seem to me there was no way to even begin to attempt to address your concerns, as your mind was already made up. So why bother? As another put it on this thread, "Unabasser's post may have been harsh." And you did it again in your 2nd post. It was good, useful feedback until you got towards the end, and then you added more jabs and sharp comments. And you expect what? A warm response to that? Are you kidding me? If you run out in front of a train and get hit by it, don't blame the train. And most certainly don't act surprised. So don't get your fur ruffled if I didn't respond to you with open arms. You've proven in the first part of your 2nd post that you can express your opinions in a thoughtful, meaningful way that is helpful. You'll get a more positive response by writing that way than you will by using the tone and pointed remarks of your 1st post. I do hope you've read my other posts, as that might help lend some insight into why we do what we do. We're not trying to shut people up, nor are we trying to choose favorites, etc. Just trying to promote the positive and limit the negative. Understand that everyone has a different idea of how far is "too far", so there's really no way find a sweet spot for when and when not to close a thread. Because of that, I understand some people, who have a higher tolerance for "too far", will get upset every time a thread is closed. Equally so, there's just as many who feel we didn't close it soon enough. So we try to find a balance in the middle. If you find yourself one of those people on either end of the spectrum, it's not going to change. So it is what it is. That is, it's a fishing site, not your life. ---- Speedbead - great suggestion! I'll see about incorporating it! Quote
PaparockArk Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 Sometimes it is hard to tell where the lines are drawn when there are posts that seem on their face to be on a forbidden subject area that are left on the forum like the terror thread a while back. Posting how a forum member should properly question if a thread has violated a forum rule without causing problems, I am sure would be a help to new and even ol members at times. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted October 14, 2007 Super User Posted October 14, 2007 I've missed all those deleted senko posts. What was the general consensus for the "Best Senko knock-off"? Quote
BassChaser57 Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 GOOD CALL GLEN!!!!! This site has (mostly) great posts and insightful information. Of course some posts are just for fun and that is fine too. Please remember 95% of us will mind our manners and of course you have to run this forum to cater to the lowest common denominator. I have been fishing a long time and still find this site very fun and informative. This expands my tips and tricks knowledge which makes me a better angler. Thanks for putting up with the occasional pain in the backside and NOT allowing this site to be lowered to the level of some of the others. This allows the rest of us to have a great place to gather to share our passion without very many difficult members. Fat Ikas are better than senkos anyway. 8-) THANKS AGAIN GLEN!!! Quote
Bass Hammer Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Of interest in reference to the closed post is the fact that two of the mentioned bait companies don't manufacture anything so they have 0% control over the quality of the manufacturing. "*** & Strike King Zero seem to float or sink slower" I don't think that the word is float is quite correct, but he did qualify with "or sinks slower" People are going to come to these pages and they are going to be new to theses pages and new to fishing. Any questions or observations are new for them and arbitrary termination of their post seems just a bit overbearing to me. How long do you think this thread would have ran if he said he thought GYCB senkos floated or sank slower instead?? Quote
mattm Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 I'm one that thinks sometimes post should go on a little longer. At times it does seem everything is a little to wonderful in here. However, having said that the people that think like me have to remember that Glen and the mods have to trust that ONE person out of 11,000 will not be an idiot. In my experience with the human race it takes a lot less than 11,000 people to find a idiot, and I assure the alternative to what we have here at BR is not better. Anyone who doubts this or wants to see what would happen if Glen and the mods didn't err on the side of caution just go to the everything else section of Bill Dance for 5 minutes, and read any post of political affiliation. It will become annoying in much less than 5 minutes. Sadly enough one of our members here is one of the worst offenders. Quote
Cajun1977 Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 just because the debate of my senko vs yours is a hot topic, it does not make the debaters idiots. and calling out a guy on this forum for saying junk on another forum could be taken as a idiot move also. Quote
mattm Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 I wasn't referring to people who post on senko's. I was referring to people who start name calling and being disrepsectful when someone has a different opinion. I understand why some of the newer members want to ask questions that have been covered over and over. I did the same thing when I first signed up i'm sure. Maybe calling out a member of this forum was an idiot move I don't know, but I didn't mention names and there is more than one member who belong to both forums. I'll be in idiont one more time I guess :-[. IMO, the person I was referring to crosses the line so bad on the other forum i'm not that bothered by mentioning it here. Quote
frogtog Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 Hi everyone I'm the lowest common denominator. Quote
