Guest muddy Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 I used to think the coming of the really cold weather and eventually, the hard warter, was the end of the fishing season up North. It actually is the opening of 2 new seasons. THE LEARNING SEASON; READING,SURFING AND DVD'S TO LEARN BASS FROM AND MY OTHER FAVORITE SEASON; TACKLE BUYING SEASON....WHICH ACTUALLY HAS NO CLOSED SEASON,but you know how Cabelas and BPS send out their Holiday cat's and then theirSpring Catalogs , just by coincidence mind you, get to our houses around Income Tax Rebate time ;D Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted October 14, 2007 Super User Posted October 14, 2007 I really hate the thought of the cold weather coming with snow and the whole mess that follows. I don't know if it's because I'm getting older or what. Just thinking about it makes me depressed. I usually have the boat winterized by now but not this year, I'm hanging on tooth and nail to the fishing. Probably not going to winterize the boat until after Thanksgiving this year. Winter sucks!!! > Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Agreed. Winter does indeed suck. > Why I ever moved back to R.I. from Ft. Lauderdale is beyond me.... I guess on a positive note, BPS is opening in a month, only a 40 minute ride, so we might have to make some trips up this winter to stay sane. That, and indoor cart racing make it all better. www.f1boston.com Quote

Guest muddy Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 I lived in New Orleans for several years, and one Christmas went to visit some friends in Austin Tx. We arrived there on the 22 and went to a mall on the 23rd SANTA WAS IN SHORTS!!!!!!!! Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 I wouldn't enjoy fishing as much w/o the off season. Keeps me hungry,...yr after yr. I love the excitement when the temps start coming back in April,...the excitement is electric. I would burn out if I had it 12 months/yr. Breaks are good. Plus there's G-ville to look forward to. George Welcome Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Yep, I get burned out catching these bass over 10 pounds during the winter months. But, I persevere as someone has to do it. ;D ;D Quote

Panamoka_Bassin Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 I'm kinda torn on the seasons. On one hand, I love to fish and winter just isn't very conducive to that. On the other hand, I love to ski and can't wait for there to be snow on the mountains. Now, if I could find a way to ski and fish at the same time... Quote

I know what you mean about getting burnt out. I usually take my break during summer. I just can't fish in 100+ temperatures. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted October 14, 2007 Super User Posted October 14, 2007 Which is why i don't hate winter(well i don't like it either)...by spring time i'm roaring to get out on the lake as soon as our bass season opens.Once dec. comes around the corner i'll be visiting tackle stores with my kid. We'll play the game "should daddy get this or no?"..he usually gives me the right answer. michbass Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Winter does stink. One day I will be down south where I can fish year round. Quote
tipptruck1 Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Man the hard water dosn't mean a thing up here. The river never frezzes over so I can fish all year. But the lakes freeze over. I don't have a big enought set to go out on the ice with a car. I have seen enough cars and turcks go through ice that was over a foot thick. In a way iam glad the winter comes. Quote
