I think the jig head will take away the action of the ika...but I heard another member here uses the chatterbait/ swimming senko as trailer w/ good result.

I put basic grubs on mine after Pike bite off the tail. Thats how I caught my 6lber. Chatter bait, 8lb test, Ultra Light rod. It was soo much fun!

That is a Gambler head, and I don't think that will work.

The Gambler heads are poorly designed and you have to use a steady retrieve at a certain speed to keep the blade working. I tried putting a superfluke on the back of one of their heads and it just didn't work - couldn't even get a consistent action.

By far the best heads designed are still the original Chatterbaits. You can work them more slowly and also faster than any other brand, and they're the most weedless. Although I have to admit I haven't tried the Karu brand yet...they look good. The strike king brand is pretty good, but still not as good as the original.

i can't remember off the top of my head, but i get them at academy in the clearance bin for $.88. not a bad deal considering the action is just as good as the original chatterbait, and in my oppinion you can fish it slower and get better action. ::)

You have to love $1 baits. I probably caught more fish on $1 baits then enything 5$ or over. Each time I loose a $5 bait I also get very mad lol.

That's how I bought mine - Gambler had a deal: buy a swim jig, as they called it, get two bags of plastics free, so I bought a few.  I like their plastics, but their chatterbait imitation leaves a lot to be desired (why do you think it was on clearance?).

And I respectfully disagree with you about being able to fish it more slowly with better action.

i have the best luck with the gamblers by far. put away the chatter baits & pure poisons i have. i think the gamblers by far have more eratic action.

Oh man we have opened up a can of worms here all hail renegade worms and eagle claw hooks. (have since upgraded to Gammies and zoom.)

The chatterbait does look good I will definately have to try it.

ya it was gambler!! and yes, now that i think about it, the dollar deals do seem to smoke the big buck baits!

and ya for the best action:

i would say gambler is best for the money

chatterbaits don't seem as good in my oppinion

and the best would have to be the booya brand ones, except the are a little expensive as well.

How do you guys fish your chatterbaits.  I have one and just fish it like a crankbait with a steady retrieve.  Anyone jig one?

I use those Booyah Boogie baits which are pretty much glorified chatterbaits, but they do have that leverage hook system on it and I will say this, since using them I have not lost ANY fish from a thrown hook. This includes a day with a back to back fourpeat of a 3-2, 3-10, 4-12 and a 5+ all happened in about 6 or 7 casts. Not one threw the hook and they all tried their darndest to do so.

(oddly enough this was about the best big fish day I have had since starting....it was dec 25th of 07).

I was casting them out about 30 feet or so and letting it sink like a jig, then lift and drop while reeling in the slack slowly, lift and drop....you get the idea. I swear it felt like a jackhammer was on the end of my line when the bait would "chatter". They musta loved something about it that day, havent had the same luck since with one, but still catch with them.....and the same thing holds true, I have yet to have one throw a hook.

I also set a hook pretty hard, but that leverage hook really works in my opinion.

I have also run them as a spinnerbait would be run but have not caught anything with that kind of presentation.

I prefer the action/vibration of the Original Chatterbait since the blade is directly and solidly connected to the jig eye. I don't trust the connection of the Booyah Boogie. The knock offs with the split ring connection absorb too much of the vibration and are not as snag free. The Chatterbait can be fished slower and faster with more vibration than the Gambler Swim Blade.

If you want to get the full effect of that style of bait, use it with braid.
