Olebiker Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 I stuck my head into the office of a coworker this morning and said, "How are you this morning, Ma'am?" She informed me rather loudly that she was offended by me calling her Ma'am and that I should know better than to use that term. It's insulting. I tried to explain to her that it was intended as a term of respect. She would have none of it. I am reminded of Hank Jr's line about "We say grace and we say Ma'am, and if you ain't into that, I don't give a...." Quote
Guest muddy Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 Hey I have come across that too, some women think it's only supposed to be used for " Older women" and they get angry b/c they are OLD LADYS ;D I just don't use it on the ones that get upset, it is a term of respect, Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 How are you this morning, Ma'am?" That is very respectful to her. So how are you supose to be polite to her? Thats just crazy Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 Yup,...learned that one a long time ago. I meet and greet people alllllll day long at my job. I'm full of greetings like "have a great weekend" on Fridays,............"Ma'am" will get you some leers, lol. Super User roadwarrior Posted October 10, 2007 Super User Posted October 10, 2007 Well then, no more "Good Morning." Man, you don't need that back from anyone, especially someone you work with. Quote

slomoe Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 yea, but you really can't fuel the fire, doesn't really help. I work with alot of stuffy people, I always try to be polite, even if its shooting some one a smile as I pass by in the hallway. Many time I just get a blank stare or something. Its hard to be polite to rude people but you gotta keep humble and know that what you are doing it right. Man if I said half the junk I thought of after running into people like that I would most likely be locked up. Quote
