Super User Matt Fly Posted October 4, 2007 Super User Posted October 4, 2007 How come the media is building the Patriots up so much?. Indy has not been part of the discussion on very many TV programs. Yet ESPN and others alike barely even mention Indy this year. NE is being talked about going undefeated and comparing them to the 72 Dolphins and we were only in week 4. Granted, Brady and bunch have looked very good, as good as they always look every year. So has Indy, they haven't been cellar dweller in a long time. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Indy has been the one to threaten the Dolphins 72 season the last few years, not the Pats. Do you guys think its on purpose? If no ones talking about INdy, there will be less pressure on them as they get closer to the undefeated record? Seems to me, Indy has had very little defense in the past, maybe why they didn't get there in the past. Their defense stepped up at the end of the season and the Colts win the Super Bowl. It sure seems to me that the Colts are getting no respect and should be favorite to repeat, yet the Patriots, Brady and Moss are getting all the press. Why? What ya think? Matt Quote
jeremyt Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 IMO, No one is talking about the Colts because they are doing what everyone is expecting them to do. WIN. I think if they lose a game then the talk will start. The Pats are getting the medias attention due to the cheating thing a few weeks back. Quote
JCrzy4Bass Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Because the tide has turned, the Pats used to be the ones who always complained about not getting recognition and not getting the press that they deserve during that first Super Bowl run. After that everyone started jumping on the band wagon and gunning for the new flava quarterback Tom Brady to light it up each season because of his unstoppable line. The Colts got the hype last year though with their run for the undefeated season. It's a toss up between the two teams and it really just depends on what the commentators views are early on, they get on the band wagon and stay there until they see the team falter in some way or another. If Addai can stay healthy with that many carries per game, which right now is questionable... and provide some depth to the offensive attack with a nice running game they will be tougher. It's tough in a one back system because that guy has that much more chance of getting beat up. That's why there's so many two back systems now. The Colts defense does look like it's playing better this year though they lost quite a few guys in the backfield and on the d-line (Harper, Mcfarland, etc), they are coming together. They will be real tough to beat, but I think they are beatable. Shanahan had a great 1st half of play calling, minus a few things... if Denver could have kept composure in the second half that would have been a closer game. I think early on Shanahan should of went for it on the Colts four yard line as much as Henry was banging their d-line and tried to take a big momentum shift early on by getting up by more than just 10 points and opting for the field goal. Their run defense is the best in the league right now but we tore into them and they looked shady in that game. If Henry can do that there are a lot of other backs in the AFC that are better and should be able to take advantage of the holes in that line. Not to mention Cutler is still a young quarterback who will make occassional mistakes, sometimes more than others, the Colts just capitalized off of that and played a good all around game. At home against the Colts you have to get ahead early by more than a touchdown because they own the second half and always come out with a 2nd half game plan that kills the opposition. Gotta have a team with great coaching as well, Dungy has brought that team a long way. But I think if I would rather play a team I would chose the Colts. Manning can check down to running backs and recievers over the middle, but Brady can throw to someone who can have 3 defenders on him and still manage to make the catch. There's a difference between spectacular catch recievers like Harrisson and Wayne, and clutch or all around recievers like Moss who is one of the smartest wide outs in the game. Quote
Fisher of Men Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 When do the two meet up? That will be a great game to watch. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted October 4, 2007 Super User Posted October 4, 2007 I live here in Indy and love the Colts. I get plenty of local coverage on the Colts so I don't mind if don't get alot of national coverage. We have only played four games and it still early. When we get late in the season the Colts media bus starts to revup. We'll have to wait and see. As far as New England goes, I think will get tons of media time because of Moss and the cheating incident and lets face it, they're good. As an Indy fan, I have always suspected that they have been cheating because of the plays that Offensive cordinator Tom Moore has called always seem to be picked up on by New England's D. The one's that the Colts burn them on are the ones in which Manning points to Reggie Wayne, Marvin Harrison and now Dallas Clark and he holds out a finger indicating the route they run. No one else knows but the receiver and Manning. Sometimes the best plays are the ones you draw in the dirt. Oh, one more thing on New England, did anybody ever notice the eye gouging going on after the plays have been called dead? How many players got their eyes poked at Bengals game, 3 or 4? It is rough game but come on, these are good enough that there is no need for this kind of BS. Quote
nboucher Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 When do the two meet up? That will be a great game to watch. Nov. 4. NE at Indy. I think one of the reasons the Pats are getting so much publicity is how they are winning. They have beat each of their opponents by more than 20 points. They're not just winning, they're dominating, and the two players who are arguably their best defensive players haven't played a game yet (Seymour and Harrison). And, yes, the way the team reacted to the taping business also got reporters' attention. Besides, Peyton Manning is in 3 out of 4 commercials I see on game days, or so it seems. He's certainly not lacking for attention. Quote

The Patriots are getting so much attention because of all the contreversy surrounding Belichick. It seems like every year some 4-0 or 5-0 team starts getting compared to the 72 Dolphins. :-/ Quote
mattm Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 I think its b/c of the marging of victory in the Pats games. Hard to throw two teams into the undefeated talk, and the Patriots wins have been more dominating. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted October 5, 2007 Super User Posted October 5, 2007 Why is New England getting so much press? Two words: Randy Moss Brady has never had a Moss type receiver but yet they won 3 Bowls. With the addition of Moss, everyone is expecting them to be 'world beaters' and nobody thinks Indy can do anything with NE anymore, now that they have Moss. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted October 5, 2007 Author Super User Posted October 5, 2007 The media never cut Terrell Owens any slack, and this year, they have left Terrell alone like he has a plague or something. Randy, I'm gonna run my routes if I feel like it is Now the Poster Child for a "Team Leader". I wouldn't turn the channel this year during football season, its getting good. Full moons over Dallas and New England. New Commish, Detriot is 3-1 and their QB predicted 10 wins before the season started. And its not even Halloween yet. Matt Quote

It is rough game but come on, these are good enough that there is no need for this kind of BS. LOL This is where it gets really funny. I know you must be an Indy fan me Im a Patriots fan. Lets keep the facts straight. New England was caught video taping defensive plays signals on the Jets game. The Patriots never video taped Offensive play signals because well there arent any. The Offensive plays are sent into the QB via a radio device into the QBs helmet. So your assumption that the Patriots cheated by figuring out the Colts offensive signals is ludacris (and I dont mean the ATL rapper) at best. That my friend is just defense which the Patriots pride themselves on, coaching, play calling, and team work not cheating. I think the reason the national media is so hot for the Patriots is becasue for the first time in his career Brady has a star WR group. Moss, Stallworth, Welker I mean he never had WRs with this much speed or talent. Brady and Co. got to the AFC Championship game and lost to the Colts last year. He had 4th stringers on any other playoff team as starters last year. Think of it this way would Manning be the QB he is without the presence of Harrison and Wayne, replacing them with 4th stringers. Granted hed still be good but great WRs makes the QB better. Brady now has a receiver core to rival or be better than Mannings. It still comes down to Defense and in that regard I would give the edge to the Patriots, but Im biased Im a Patriots fan. I think it will be a great game when these two collide especially if they are still undefeated. Quote
