RWHusker. Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 Catt, LSU is in trouble already. ESPN, the KIA's ( the know it alls) think LSU and USC will play for the BCS title, thats a jinx to start with. Both of those teams undefeated. Thats funny. I had UT and USC in re-match!!!! I know, thats even funnier!!!!!! Before we go giving in BCS bowls away both of these teams have to play my beloved Huskers. I can't wait for Saturday Nebraska/ Nevada for our starter. But the pic below shows where I will be on the 15th and every home game, but the 15th in particular. My Nephew is getting married that day and my sister isn't happy with me. I say dumb planning on their part. Oh well send a big gift as a guilt offering and as always GO BIG RED!!! Quote
Fisher of Men Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 Texas' first big test will come against TCU, and Gary Patterson has had those guys ready to play a big team every year. Don't forget, they handed OU an opening day loss in Olkie land a few years ago, or was that last year? I respect TCU's program. They have been predicted to be the Boise State BCS buster this year. That only happens if UT goes down. I like Michigan for the Big Ten, got alot of talent back on offense, the key spots, QB, WR and RB are all seasoned, and they could have all came out, but decided to stay one more year. USC of the Pac 10, the program speaks for itself. I'll take LSU in the SEC because they have the players on both sides, and the QB has started in the past a few times, and he's looked good. The Big XII, OU has freshman QB, and if they can't control the game by running, then the QB will make mistakes, all freshmen do. A&M flat out has a winner a QB, he just knows how to win and he protects the ball better than any QB I have seen in awhile, 2 interceptions last season. A&M could be spoiler, and could win it this year. Fact, other than UT and OU. A&M is only team to win South title, 97 and 98. With that being said, I'll still take my Horns, Freshmen of the year, Colt McCoy, to win three in a row against OU. I'm ready for some football. Hookem, Matt You are right Matt. The TCU game could be one of the toughest for you guys all year. Thanks for the props in your Big 12 run-down. I think this might be our year if any. We've really got a tough road run with Miami, OU, Nebraska, and Tech. It's going to be a toss-up between you guys, OU, and us. Man, I can't wait!! Quote
Super User Catt Posted August 29, 2007 Author Super User Posted August 29, 2007 RWHusker I just checked and I can't find Nebraska any where on LSU schedule, but I do hope y'all put USC in their place Quote

Super User Root beer Posted August 30, 2007 Super User Posted August 30, 2007 Hey catt, I know les miles is getting real cocky about LSU vs USC, but I'm side with him about USC being overrated. If nebraska doesn't knock off USC and LSU dont fall in tuscaloosa (which I hope they do) then LSU better beat crap out of USC harder then Florida did against Ohio State. As always SEC has been and alway will be football king! Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted August 30, 2007 Super User Posted August 30, 2007 Canes are the only real team out there. Everyone is else is powderpuff ball. Quote

Super User Root beer Posted August 30, 2007 Super User Posted August 30, 2007 Whoa! hold your horse! I can give you best rated Defense in LSU, but matt flynn number 1 QB? Are you freaking kidding me? The boy only had one starting experience. I'm still skeptical about way he going run LSU offense, I personally think defense will be reason for LSU success this season. Remember Alabama fell short by two touchdown last year and they fumbled twice inside the 5 yard line and missed a FG. And this was in death valley. Cant wait until LSU comes to Tuscaloosa. Basically on paper, Alabama had a great shot at winning the game in the bayou, they just didnt execute. That where I'm hoping nick saban can improve during his first year at Alabama. Quote

Super User Catt Posted August 30, 2007 Author Super User Posted August 30, 2007 A lot of people will be surprised how good Matt Flynn really is, yes he has had only one start but he has played in 15 games. Passing: 78-43-2 for 689 yds &10 tds; rushing: 28-125 & 1 td. The offense under new coordinator Gary Crowton there'll be more option, more quick timing patterns, and quicker reads on the line. I would be more worried about John David Booty at USC than I would with Flynn; Booty didn't sign with LSU because he wasn't good enough to beat out Russell or Flynn. All three came out at the same time in 2003 and it wasn't even close. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted August 30, 2007 Super User Posted August 30, 2007 USC is the team to beat, with that said, you have to look at all the intangibles. First, Pete Carroll has been in the top of the charts every season. Second, they already have the #1 to start with. Third, they are 3 deep at every position fourth, every starting LB will be playing NFL soon. Fifth, its USC's tradition, they expect to be near the top 6th, they have top 5 freshmen class to reload every year. 7th, just like 2005, they are already predicted to walk with it with out playing a game. 8th, USC has had a Heisman caliber athletes every year 9th, just what has changed in the pac 10 that makes other teams a threat to USC getting upset? Teams may looker better on paper, but most have not lived up to 5 years of straight pressure of being ranked in the top 5, thus the pressure of big game experience belongs to the coach and legacy the team has established under Carroll. I think they can be beat, but since Carroll has been their, it hadn't happened very often. And when it has, they bounced back stronger the next year, and this could be his best defense yet, even better than when Carson and the boys had a cake walk. 10th and last point, I hate USC, but again, give them the props, they play one of the most challenging non-conference schedules every year. You can knock your self out of the BCS by playing a dangerous team, and every year, USC plays the likes of Nebraska, ND, and others. Not to mention there are some dangerous teams in the pac 10, as seen by Cal getting closer, Oregon and UCLA upsets. Peta Carroll plays a tough schedule that does nothing but prepare his team by playing better caliber competition. This is why I have to respect a team like Tenn and Cal for playing each other, one of them is gonna have a early season loss that almost guarantees that one will not be the the BCS title game. Does your team test itself against better non-conference teams? Hookem Matt Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 OH OH This Pete Caroll guy, Just ordered a mook t shirt Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted August 30, 2007 Super User Posted August 30, 2007 Muddy, Pete is just trying to get his foot in the door on some of the recruits coming out of the NE states. Thats why he has USC playing for a title almost every year since he joined USC. If a Mook can run, pass, block or kick, he's a prospect. Matt. Quote
mattm Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Matt, I'm getting excited for me some UT football. Your right the TCU game could be tough. I respect their program as well, but their nowhere near as good as Boise State was last year. The year they beat Oklahoma was two years ago, but they were way down. If our receiver were healthy, or even two of them, we should handle TCU no problem. I think there are tougher games on the schedule, but drawing a pretty good TCU club so early with health issues could bite us. A&M is so much better this year, but they have a brutal schedule. Quote

I hope A&M plays a better non-conference than they did last year. No matter who Stoops had at QB, the Sooners should have been loaded at each position, TCU shouldn't have did what they did at OU's home turf to supposedly one of the Elite programs in the nation. Stoops gets top 10 recruits ever year to reload. That whats separates elite team from flash in the pans. Thats what makes Pete Carroll program so much better. He reloads every year. How many Heisman's have been won with Pete at USC? 3 I think. Matt Quote
Super User Catt Posted August 30, 2007 Author Super User Posted August 30, 2007 PAC 10 2007 3 out of 10 teams are ranked SEC 2007 6 out of 12 teams are ranked USC looks great because when you play no one in their conference you build astonishing statistics; USC has to play better non-conference teams because the PAC10 is so weak. USC's schedule for non-conference teams 2007 Idaho, Nebraska, & Notre Dame Pete Carroll's Heisman Trophy winner Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, & Reggie Bush; only Bush has proved he could play in the NFL. Quote
RWHusker. Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Pete Carroll's Heisman Trophy winner Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, & Reggie Bush; only Bush has proved he could play in the NFL. Catt, I agree with most everything you say especially if its about jerking a line. However Carson Palmer can play. GO BIG RED Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted August 31, 2007 Super User Posted August 31, 2007 Sorrry to break it gently, but Heisman means best player in college and don't matter what they did in the pros, although those three are getting paid rather handsomely. We will look at the caliber of non conference schedules for the Pac 10 and SEC. I already know that USC has always played a tough schedule on paper, and some years, ND is on down cycle. Also SEC always have 3-4 teams that just plain bite, another words, they are quaranteed wins for the other SEC teams. So you take cream puff season, plus the cream puff SEC team and thats over 500 before it really starts. And that can be said for lots of conferences, so I put a lot of salt in to non conference schedules. Look at TENN and CAL, one of those schools most likely will be out of the BCS title race the first game. I respect that. Good win Catt, congrats to your Tigers. Matt Quote
BassHunter69 Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 muddy i'll be honest in saying that im seriously hoping saban can get alabama to beat at least auburn if they do that would make my intire year in a game Quote
Super User Catt Posted August 31, 2007 Author Super User Posted August 31, 2007 I don't even believe Heisman means best player in college, it means he's the great player on a team that has a lot of stroke with the people who make the decision; Other wise more small college players would win the Heisman That's the problem USC looks good on paper but they never really get tested, look at their schedule of 12 games only 3 teams have a legitimate shot of beating them; that's nine games they can use to build phenomenal stats. Look at LSU schedule they have 7 teams out of 12 games that have a legitimate shot of beating them: so who do you think will have better looking stats? I think the only way to have a true national champion is a play off system which will not happen because these big money colleges don't want to lose to a small college. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted August 31, 2007 Super User Posted August 31, 2007 Tommy, You could use the same arguement for last season also, except they had two losses, and tough non conf. schedule. We can't control the strength of the conference, but can control the non conference games. Florida played no one out side the SEC. Since the BCS started, how many times has any of these SEC teams been a major threat to win the SEC? out of 12 teams, Kentucky, Vandy, Mississippi, Ala, Miss. state, and Arkansas, just how many times have they been in contention to win the SEC? Add South Carolina, when have they a major threat. Not very many times, half the conference has been cream puffs. Compare that to who Florida played last year and tell me if they deserved to play in the title game. Southern Miss, Univ. of Centtral Florida, Western Carolina. add in the regular cream puffs and you always have a winning season, and the old statement, We eat our own. This year, W. Kentucky, Troy, Miss, Florida Atlantic., then add in the normal 4-6 non competive divisional foes and you have the same recipe every year in most conferences. The only true test is to test the other notable colleges to see where you really stack up. Hookem Matt Quote
