Super User Hookemdown. Posted September 21, 2007 Super User Posted September 21, 2007 I know how you feel FM, i'm in my junior year in HS right now. Between school, sports, and my dismal social life, I hardly have any spare time. Just keep hanging in there. I know that school can be tough at times, but we certainly ARE living the best days of our life right now. Quote
MattStrykul Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Man just wait. I'm a jr as well, and I got SO much work to do tonight. I just got home from a football game, saw all my friends from an old high school i went to, and it was a BLAST. Just go with the flow, thats all the advice I can give. Have fun, do a little work, just go with it. Quote
Yodie Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 hookemdown... If you think high school is the best dyas of your life just wait for college ( if you choose to go...which I highly reccomend not only for the degree but for the overall experience) I am 5 weeks into my freshman year and these five weeks have been so much more than my 4 years in high school ever dreamed they could be...comprehensively, too... Dont get too cuaght up in the people youre around now (in your HS, i mean) becuase as you go through the next year or so you will realize that you arent as close as you think... and most generally there are lots of those "friends" you have now that you wont ever see again...and after about a week you will realize that you dont care... BUT...dont ever lose touch with everyone...there are some guys (and maybe a girl or too... :) that you will always stay in touch with,,,but friends in college are so much more substantial and a hell of a lot less dramatic...there were few things in high school that i look back on now and see as a much of a big of a deal as it seemed at the time... Anyway...all of you in high school...study hard...i know youve heard it a thousand times, but dont blow it off...the work you do now pays off later... i really wish i would have listened to that when I was there...they told me, but i didnt listen...and i am paying for it now struggling my a** off in some of my 100 level courses...and im just getting started... oh yeah, and a football game, the mall, a stupid date, and especially DANCES... are never important as a day on the lake with your buddies...fishin is waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy better than high school drama. tight lines and hard studies (Just another kid) D. Red Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 i remember my "senior skip day"..ya know, every ditches school and goes out in the woods and taps a keg....all my "friends" thought i was crazy when i ditched school and went fishing all day long Quote
BassHunter69 Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 ;D cliff, i remember those high school days, playing hooky and going fishing. never had a date during all of high school as popular as i was since i was the only deaf guy in Princeton High of 84 through 88. i remember the gals in school though but they seemed not to want to be bothered with a research geek. these days are so differnt from high school wish i knew what i know now back then trust everyone here you'll miss high school when your 40 8-) Quote
Fisher of Men Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 Hey File mob, It sounds as if you are figuring all this out for yourself, but here's some advice that I share with the 8th graders I teach before they are off to HS. Study hard. If there's one thing that I could do if I ever went back (not that I have ANY desire to), it would be to study harder and make better grades. I could kick myself for not doing better (although I was in the top 20%, a little bit more work could have put me in the top 10% and an honor graduate). The other thing is that you have to learn to juggle the many different activities. Joining clubs and being involved in activities is good for college scholarship applications, but don't over-do it. When you turn 16, don't turn into a blooming idiot right after you get your liscense like I did. There'll be plenty of time to drive in your life (even a time later when you'll WANT someone else to drive you around). A couple of other things that I would have done would have been to party ALOT less and to have stayed closer to my faith throughout. The partying's fun, but seldom productive. Only by the grace of God did I stay out of jail (oops, I went once, but was released quickly) or keep from killing myself and others by driving home drunk. One phrase to remember: THINK before you act!! God bless, Fisher <>< Quote
Super User Sam Posted September 23, 2007 Super User Posted September 23, 2007 Three things you can do to put yourself in a bad position for life: 1. Get married before you are 21. 2. Have a baby while a teenager. 3. Fail to graduate high school. A word to the wise is sufficient. Quote

I cant agree more with this. I had a few friends I would trust alone in my house. Theres also friends I havent talked to in over four years. You should also study hard. I really didn't and I spent all summer getting ready for school in the fall. As for school gos I don't miss it at all. I can't wait for it to be over in may so I can go back to working 60 hours a week. So I wish you luck. Quote
Mobydick Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 I know what you mean! I'm in 11 grade. I don't worry about it, i'm kinda smart ;D. I just let it go as it goes. Hey, find yourself a girl also, I think you'll enjoy school a little more, I know I do. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted September 23, 2007 Super User Posted September 23, 2007 I'm a senior in high school. I agree with what been said above. I wish I taken more AP classes and study more. But I'm almost out and got decent enough GPA to get into a few school I like. I plan go to college next fall. Bro, it goes by faster then you think. Sometimes I wake up still thinking I'm a freshmen or something. Quote
Ky_Lake_Dude Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 I'm right there with you File Mob. I just started Jr. High and they took me out of regular math and put me in Pre Algebra and I can hardly understand the basic stuff, so I don't know what I'm gonna do when we start the harder stuff. Super User Dan: Posted September 24, 2007 Super User Posted September 24, 2007 I really wish I had spent my time more wisely in high school. I did well and I had fun but I really miss it now, especially all of my close friends and playing sports. I still think I met my closest friends in high school. I remember we used to always complain about how little there was to do and how boring being in high school was but sometimes I feel like I would give a lot to be back to that simplicity. Getting responsibility for independence is a harsh deal sometimes. Quote

Super User burleytog Posted September 24, 2007 Super User Posted September 24, 2007 [threadjack] Three things you can do to put yourself in a bad position for life: 1. Get married before you are 21. How so? I was 20, my wife was 19. We will celebrate our 10th anniversary this week. No shotguns involved. [/threadjack] Quote
Fisher of Men Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 OK, I might not agree with the "under 21" concept. My wife was 20 and I was 21 when we were married and we've been happily married for 16 years now. However, the combination of these circumstances to marry before age 18 are usually NOT a good choice (although there are some exceptions). I'm sure there are many christian people who would not agree with me, but getting married is NOT always the best choice for a pregnancy situation. However, the dad in question SHOULD be financially responsible AND be a DAD to the kid. If the relationship continues for the couple, then marriage might be appropriate later on. I think too many couples immediately jump into marriage or (as you say, "shotgun" weddings force them to) that they later have differences that they may not have known about. This causes undue stress and emotional consequences for all parties, especially the children, as they get divorced. To all you young bucks here: First and foremost, be the MAN by making wise choices ahead of time. Do you want to be a dad at 16? 17? or 18? Are you ready for that responsibility? THINK before you :-* !! Quote
Super User burleytog Posted September 24, 2007 Super User Posted September 24, 2007 To continue the threadjack... Getting married just because a chick is knocked up isn't a wise thing to do. Getting married just to get some isn't a good thing either. I am bumfuzzled when I see people living together, the gal gets knocked up and BAM, they have to get married. Perhaps you should have done that before you went down the other road. But to somewhat tie this into the topic at hand, Fisher of Men makes a good point. Make GOOD decisions and don't let your thingy do your thinking for you. I almost made that mistake my senior year of high school. That mistake (assuming there was a mistake in the first place) would have been going into high school this year. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted September 26, 2007 Super User Posted September 26, 2007 don't let your thingy do your thinking for you. . Your a man of wisdom. I dont know why, I just burst out laughing. It like a humorous life quotes for teenagers and/or college students. I've heard a saying real similar to it, but the way you put it in because you was giving an advice, that was just a great punch line. Quote

Cherokee in the channel yet? Haven't been down that way since going by on my way to Douglas almost two months ago. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted September 26, 2007 Super User Posted September 26, 2007 I drove by kidwell ridge today and it LOW. It pretty much at winter pool. Best thing to do now is just target whatever rocky points are left and some river channels with drop shots. However, I cant do none of that without a decent depth finder. > Sorry for hijacking thread. Quote
