This week Bill Dance gave the juiciest, most exlusive, insightful, brilliant, superb, genius, pro tip on fishing crankbaits!!!

If the fish are shallow, say from 0-6 ft, you want to use a shallow running crankbait.  If they are in the mid range, you want to use a medium depth crankbait.  And if the fish are holding deep, like around 20 ft., use a crankbait designed to dive deep.   :'( :'(

I definitely don't watch Bill Dance.  Aaron Martens from Bass Edge gets on my nerves as well.  He acts like a little kid; each time he or the guest catches a fish, he acts like it is the first fish he has ever caught/seen.  I saw the guest catch the first fish o the day on a shallow crank, and man is Aaron over excited...I mean pumped!  "OH MAN!!"  "Do you need me to grab the trolling motor?!"  "Should I grab the net?!"  "Is there anything I can do?!"  "Can you BELIEVE how shallow that fish was!!"  "Holy cow...how much fun are we having!!"  "Boy he just NAILED IT didn't he!"  "How about that Bull Shoals...Man I tell ya!"  "Woo-Hoo!"  All this for a 15" fish.  I'll pass...

Let's think about it, he is teaching beyond a bobber, split shot and night crawler isn't he? I guess that means he is above some of us, doesnt it? The Man loves to fish and loves to teach fishing. We should all remember that at some point in our life, we weren't so brilliant about fishing either. Some one took the time to teach us and I am glad they did. Good fishing

I still watch his shows...because some of the questions he answers are spot on.Plus it helps me remember what a fish is.

Let me tell you something about Mr Dance. He is a GREAT person... HE took time out to autograph and send me SEVERAL items for my fishing wall I put up here.. I have TRIED to contact other Pros but the only ones that answered were Mr Dance, Mr Houston and Mike D.  from Lunkerville... so to say anything negative about these folks doesn't please me, I know BIG WOOP... my momma always said if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything... I think that should apply here too...

Hmmm, let 's see ....... how many times has been asked in this forum which hook size for X bait ? or how many times it has been asked about let 's say, which weight and stuff like that ? heck, we even have a stickbait ( aka, senko ) special section cuz senko qustions have been asked so many times it becomes boring seeing senko this and senko that questions.

And who asks those questions ? People that have a doubt and you 'll find hundreds if not thousands of people who are new to the sport and therefore they ask.

Hell, I may be and old grumpy fart, I may know everything there 's to know about tackle but if have the will of teaching others what I know those who ask will get an answer from me.

So apparently some have forgotten a little detail here, shows are meant to be educational for all of those who are in the sport, every year a new generation of anglers to be is born and many don 't have the blessing of having someone to teach them.

The tip may sound stoopid to you, but it ain 't for someone who knows nothing.

That guy is a great fisherman and teacher. And it is not always about bass I have learned a little about catfishing and crappies from him also. His is the only show I try to make sure I don't miss. That crank bait remark probably does sound dumb to a guy with expierence, but just think about a newbie standing in front of a wall with crank baits hanging all over it. Must be pretty overwhelming.

I've said it before and will say it again.  Bill teaches basic fishing.  He does a great job of making it simple.  As for the private stock ponds,  if he is teaching basic fishing,  he needs to catch fish.  Ever take a kid fishing?  Doesn't matter what species.  No catching = bored = no learning = no interest.

Hahah that is true.  Madden and Dance are similar.  Good comparison.  I'll keep that in mind and chuckle when Dance gives a Madden like analysis.   ;D

Good points man!  Thanks for the perspective.   There is still plenty I don't know, so I guess I need to remember there are plenty of new folks out there that may not know about different diving cranks.  I just thought it was funny- no doubt that Dance is a great teacher.  To be honest- I permanently saved his episode about the plastic worm because it was basic but yet very informative.

However, as good as Dance is, he needs to get off that pond of his! hahahah ;D He just keeps pulling up lunker after lunker!  I like those fishing shows where the host struggles catching em.  Guess that is why I like Mike Iaconelli's show "City Limits" so much.

Say what you want but the guy is just trying to help people become better fisherman.  I have learned things from him as well as from pros on other bass fishing shows.

A true legend of our time as far as i am concerned. We should be thankful to have him and all the other older veterans who have paved the way and revolutionized the way we youngsters fish for Bass. When I say youngsters I mean all of you who are old enough to be my dad.

but for the guys posting the question, it's all new! If the question has

been asked a thousand times and you find it boring, move on to

another post or thread!

I find Bill Dance entertaining, whether the episode is simple or not.

You may not learn a thing, but others will. Over the years, Bill Dance

has been an inspiration to generations and he is genuinely a very nice

guy.

I always thought Bill Dance's show seemed geared more towards kids/families.  If you like family fishing shows specializing in stocked little ponds and full of pitches for every fishing-related product in the world, then the Bill Dance show is for you!

I've learned a lot from Bill Dance over the years and continue to learn from him and others. The tip sounds trivial to most of us but it is amazing how many people overlook small details. For example, most people that ask me why I am using a certain bait don't take into account that the water they are fishing is 3 dimensional. I explain to at least one or two people every trip that bass will hold at different depths due to many circumstances. You use different baits to reach different depths that react differently to target fish. A great deal of novice fishermen think they can cast out a lure and if there are fish there they will bite. After I explain this basic fact you can almost literally see the light bulb in their head light up. If I can take a couple of minutes of my day to help someone become a better fisherman than the trip is a success whether I catch fish or not. Just my humble opinion.

People can take all the pot shots at Bill Dance they want. Please remember who was the trail blazer in bass fishing. Remember who first started making a living off of fishing. Anybody who went from selling furniture to catching fish for a living is ok with me. Some of these hot shots who make fools of themselves when the camera is rolling should be thankful for what Bill, Roland and Ray Scott did for fishing. Thank you Bill, Roland and Ray.

I like Bill Dance's show, I try to watch it as much as possible.

I am one of those guys who did not have anyone teach me fishing, I have been since I started reinventing the wheel so to speak. Now that I can catch a fish or two I can say it was thanks to all the fishing shows I watch, the fishing magazines and articles I read and the forums like this one.

Bill Dance is also a good teacher, he explaind the technics in a way anyone can use the information and that is good for me, I think Raul hit it right on the nail. I am one of those asking beginer questions but I also look forward to the time when I get to help someone out.

I also like "City limits" but that show it is not very teaching oriented, it is more a watch me catch fish kind of show. I can say I like Mike Iconelli also.

At this time in my fishing skill level, I need all the teaching I can get.

But I must say the biggest bass I ever caught I caught w/ a bill dance topwater popper.  So thanks Bill!
