Triton21 Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 I was rudely awakened at 2:00 AM on the 2nd of this month with SEVERE back pain. I have had nine back surgries and cronic back pain so thought that was the problem but nothing I could do would make the pain go away. I called my family Dr. about 1:00 PM and he told me to go to the emergency room at our local hospital. To make a long story short I have kidney stones in both kidneys. They have not done anything about them yet. Still trying to figure out what is the best approach to solve the problem. Anyone have any tips? I am 'JONESIN' to go fishing. Kelley Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted September 14, 2007 Super User Posted September 14, 2007 I think your subject line may be a good release from the pain..... Quote
Triton21 Posted September 14, 2007 Author Posted September 14, 2007 25 or 30 years ago I would have agreed with you. I have since outgrown many of my habits. Thanks for the sugestion anyway. Kelley Quote
Super User Raul Posted September 14, 2007 Super User Posted September 14, 2007 Well, it 's obvious that you need the tests to be done to determine the nature of the stones then determine the course of action which could be: 1.- pulverizing the stones with ultrasound ( that can 't be done on all types of stones ), 2.- surgery or 3.- special diet and treatment to dissolve the stones. Kidney stones indicate a methabolical/dietary problem reason why you have to know from what the stones are made of, the most common ones are calcium oxalate, urates and magnesium ammonium sulfate ( estruvite ), and they form if your urine is alkaline. Super User Bassn Blvd Posted September 14, 2007 Super User Posted September 14, 2007 It has been said that the next closest thing to child birth (as far as pain goes) is kidney stones. I wish you the best of luck bro. I never had them but my dad has and had to pass them through his wiener and my mom has them right now. Quote
RiskKid. Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 I feel for ya Kelley, I've had two stones over the past year and it ain't no fun. For what it's worth the first one they pulverized (it was a large one). That was an all day deal where they put me out and I had to spend the rest of the day at home due to the anesthesia. That was really a pretty easy and painless procedure for me. The second stone was smaller so my choice there was to let it pass naturally or they could stick a tube up my wee wee and points further to try and retrieve the stone When I asked the Doc what he would do he said if it was him he'd go for the natural passin and take some pain meds if needed. So without a doubt I went for the natural passin and lo and behold in a few days out she came. I may have been lucky cause I sure didn't like the idea of that tube going where they were going to put it! Good luck with it and know that in time all things will pass......and hopefully soon!!!! RWHusker. Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 Kelley, I had Kidney Stones 9 years ago. I really thought at the time I would rather die. My wife said I was laying on the floor cussing like a sailor and callling on the Lord at the same time. From what I understand there are 2 types of stones and I was advised to drink more water and less caffiene. It's amazing how good I was with the caffiene as long as I had a vivid memory of the pain. Now I still drink coffee but by the cup instead of the pot. Rod Quote

Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted September 15, 2007 Super User Posted September 15, 2007 Best thing to do is go to a 3rd world country faster service and PEOPLE took many years of schooling to help others .American doctors are just here for the money .So they prescribe you with something that will give you something else so you have to keep going back >i have seen this before a few times .you go in for a checkup like say your hand feels numb next thing ya know they want to do brain surgery and put you on prozac so you dont care when they cut ur back wide open and put fake lumbar disc in there Quote

Mrs. Matstone Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Well Triton21 all I can say is that I wish you the best of luck. Kidney stones suck! I had kidneystones myself. I was hospitalized for 4 days before they finally did surgery. I have also had 2 children and I can tell you that I would rather have given birth again than have kidneystones. I am not too bad when it comes to pain but kidneystones are the worst. I was rollin around on the floor waiting patiently to rip off anyone's head that came by me. It was terrible. Good luck and drink lots of water. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted September 21, 2007 BassResource.com Administrator Posted September 21, 2007 I just passed a kidney stone a few weeks ago. I can attest it is the WORST pain I have ever felt! So I can sympathize. Fortunately, the hospital was able to give me some powerful pain meds. That plus a ton of water enabled me to pass it. A follow-up with the urologist taught me a few things, like coffee and dark green vegetables are bad if not done in moderation. Drink lots of water - Gatorade type drinks aren't that good for you because of all the sodium, and soda pop is just as bad. Stay clear of mocha's and go easy on the chocolate. Water, water, water. Drink lots of it. He told me I should be passing about 2 litres of fluids per day! Quote
frogtog Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 I have had some and man I'm telling you I though I was going to die. Then I went to the doctor and ( I just can't recommend going to the doctor, you have no idea what they can do to a male subject ) Better off getting some pain killers and giving it a couple weeks and if you don't pass them then take your shot at the doctor. Trust me on this one, there is no quick remedy for these things. Only Time. :-/ Quote
