RWHusker. Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 Wow, I'm stlll sitting here reeling (without a Shimano in hand) from last night. USC dominated our lines and kicked our butts. The first 15 minutes I truely believed we had stepped back into the elite program status, then I watched the next 30 minutes and realized that we were on the Have Not side of College Footbal. The last time I seen holes that big to run through was the 1996 Fiesta bowl and it was Nebraska running through Florida. It appears to me we have 4 dominate college programs; USC< LSU>Oklahoma&Florida. The rest of us maybe on the outside looking in. I'm looking forward to Ball State next week and hopefully licking our wounds and preparing for the Big XII north. Thanks for listiening. Oh and by the way it was the first sporting event in 16 years of life that I ever had my son ask to leave anything early. He drank the kooaide with me and took it pretty hard. GO BIG RED ( Next Week will be Ok) Quote
Super User senile1 Posted September 16, 2007 Super User Posted September 16, 2007 I watched the game on TV. Â I didn't expect USC to dominate to the extent that they did, especially in the running game. Â Quote
RWHusker. Posted September 16, 2007 Author Posted September 16, 2007 You're not kidding Ed. Â When the young man was taking out on the stretcher they made a decision enough of this and it was over. Â Our linebakers were awful. Â Whether it was over persuit or not taking care of their space I'm not sure but it is very obvious where we can be exposed. Â I maybe making a trip to KC Â Rod Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 16, 2007 Super User Posted September 16, 2007 Nebraska needs a lot of practice on how to tackle properly and they could have possible won that game. The husker's defense held USC's passing game to only 144 total yards while racking up 389 passing yards them selves. As for USC I don't even put them in the top 5 in the nation; they'll not win a national title being one dimensional. Â Â Quote
Super User Dan: Posted September 16, 2007 Super User Posted September 16, 2007 I think it's pretty obvious who the two best teams are right now. I hope we get to see LSU and USC in a championship game. Quote
RWHusker. Posted September 16, 2007 Author Posted September 16, 2007 Catt, have your ever seen so much arm tackling way up high. Â Our defensive staff needs to be re-done. Â BO PELINI where are you? Â Oh yeah at LSU. Â I'm anxious to see Oklahoma play a real team. Â I think their defense is great and there Red Shirt Freshman QB has bees good so far. Florida destroyed Tennessee but again who knows. Â The one thing I know for sure is LSU is for real and I believe USC is too. Â But as I said we have a small groups of Have's and a big group of Have Not's. GO BIG RED Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 16, 2007 Super User Posted September 16, 2007 LSU, Texas, Florida, & Oklahoma have showed me way more than USC, John David Booty can't handle defensive pressure and their defense can't stop the pass. I'll make 2 predictions right now USC will lose one possible two games; the national championship will be the winners of LSU/Florida who could quite possibly play each other twice & the winners of Texas/Oklahoma. Offenses win games, defenses win championships  Quote
mattm Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 I was rooting for ya'll RW even though i'm a UT guy. Â Was disappointed the way it turned out. Â You've came along ways though. Â Just stick with them. Catt, i'm a huge UT fan, but i can't figure out what Texas could of possibly shown you so far. Â I'm holding out hope that things get better, but they've barely scrapped by in all their games. Â Add to that they've only played one team anybody thought was decent, and after TCU's loss to Air Force i'm not sure its even one. Â Mack needs to whip em in shape or the Oklahoma game could be ugly. Quote
Super User Sam Posted September 16, 2007 Super User Posted September 16, 2007 I was very surprised at the scores of the Nebraska-USC; Auburn-State; and the Tennessee-Florida games. I was more upset at the two "phantom pass interferrence" calls on the last drive in Tuscaloosa that gave the Tide and Satan the win. I was not surprised that Tulane lost another game. ;D LSU played its second string QB and other second and third string players and shut down a very offensively powerful Middle Tennesee State team which also surprised me. I agree with you guys that USC could lose at least one, if not two games. So could LSU as their schedule is brutal. Isn't college football a lot of fun. Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 16, 2007 Super User Posted September 16, 2007 mattm, I get more out of watching a hard fought game like UT & UCF than I can out of a blowout. UT is executing their game plan on both sides of the ball, if they can get by Oklahoma then they have a shot if not Oklahoma does. As far LSU we will see what they can do with South Carolina because Steve Spurrier knows what it takes to win in the SEC. Quote

Super User burleytog Posted September 16, 2007 Super User Posted September 16, 2007 The one thing I know for sure is LSU is for real How so? Â They haven't exactly been tested. Â They haven't played true powder puffs, but they also haven't faced what I would consider to be a good team. The LSU/Florida game (and probably rematch in Atlanta) will be the deciding factor. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted September 16, 2007 Super User Posted September 16, 2007 As for Texas, they are not a top 10 football team. Â OU will destroy them. Quote
Super User Sam Posted September 17, 2007 Super User Posted September 17, 2007 Burley, Are you talking about the Florida Gators and the Tennessee Volunteers when you give those definitions? Opps. Â I mean are you talking about those Florida Gators? One game, good or bad, does not make a season, unless it is the Alabama-Auburn matchup. With the better games ahead we will see who are the contenders and who are the pretenders. Quote
RWHusker. Posted September 17, 2007 Author Posted September 17, 2007 What I know now is that it is early in the season so Burley it's probably true none of us know for sure what we think we know or don't know. Â Early season Polls are only and indicator. Â I expect to see LSU and USC play for the mythical National Championship. Â Several teams stand in their way and until theres a playoff nobody better get ambushed. GO BIG RED Quote
Super User burleytog Posted September 17, 2007 Super User Posted September 17, 2007 Early season polls are nothing but an indication of how the media thinks teams will do. Media polls are meaningless and should be disregarded. Quote

That said, IMO they have faced stiffer competition than USC. USC will lose to Cal and Oregon.  LSU and UF will split. Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 17, 2007 Super User Posted September 17, 2007 So Burley you didn't consider #9 Virginia Tech a test? A team which had the best defense for the past 2 years & 7 returning seniors on defense. Or that Frank Beamer is 156-82-2 as a head coach of Virginia Tech or 9 times Coach of the Year. Quote

VT alway been overratted. However, I hope the LSU and FL game is very fun to watch. Cant wait to see that. ;D Quote
BassHunter69 Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 what did you guys think about for that alabama arkie game  ;D ;D bama 3-0  Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted September 17, 2007 Super User Posted September 17, 2007 Theres been enough upsets from the little guys already this year, or have ya'll forgotten. How about the #5 team going down?   Way to go Kentucky!!!!!!!!! I'm waiting to see if OU plays anyone who can put pressure on the rookie QB.   Don't care what team it is, a freshmen is a freshmen. My horns will need miracle this year to beat OU, I just don't see the speed on defense to match up with that offense.  We haven't exactly been in the backfield getting pressure on opposing QB's. The only way to solve the media voting their favorites in  the polls is to have better non conference schedules. How come OSU got such a high ranking last year to start with?  The had 9-10 new defensive starters?   How come Florida didn't get the same consideration this year? College is too in consistent with the rankings  to start with. Matt Quote

I consider VPI to be a media darling. Â After watching them struggle to beat ECU, it was obvious that they weren't top 10 material, much like Texas. Â LSU confirmed that with the beatdown in Baton Rouge. Quote
Super User Sam Posted September 18, 2007 Super User Posted September 18, 2007 Bass Hunter, If it wasn't for those two phantom pass interference calls by the refs Bama would have lost. It seems to me that the Bama guys just ran out of gas in the second half and were lucky to win the game. But when Satan was at LSU the Fighting Tigers won games in the final minutes so this is just like Satan to have his team pull out a victory. This is going to be another wild and crazy SEC football season. Â Hey, even Kentucky can play football, which is a miracle in itself. ;D Quote
