I'm taking a Scuba diving class in college and we just had our first scuba dive.  Well it was kinda a scuba dive.  It was in the pool, but we were underwater at 10-15ft for about 10 minutes.  It was one of the coolest experiences I have done.

Anyone else here scuba dive or have dived before?

I've been diving for about 8 years. I took my classes when I was stationed in Hawaii. It is great. Now I use it to learn more about bass. It is a huge advantage.

I did,  I was PADI cetified and spoiled in Okinawa Japan while I was stationed there, the visibility here in the states sucks so I haven't been since 2000. I would love to take a refresher and try some of the German U boats sunk off the coast here in NC.

I have always assumed it was a big advantage. Without giving away your "top secret" information, what are some of the things scuba diving has taught you about bass?

I have learned

How hydrilla and other weeds grow.

How bass use the weeds.

That crawfish are everywhere and I can better match their color now.

That there are more details to structure than we think.

The list goes on and on, but those are the big ones for me.

Well I own a commerical diving company if that counts.

No.

:o

Maybe you could share a story about "A Hole In The Dam" if you have time.

Pretty interesting stuff.

This is one thing I've always wanted to do.  I saw some guys spear fishing for walleyes down in AR on bull shoals once.  Freaking awsome.

RW their are several holes under Ky Dam.  The water has eaten the softer linestone away.   I think you are refering to the valve leaking on # 1 intake.  It is a great place to fish for SM their is always current.

Yep, that's what I was referring to. I remember your post last summer when you were hammering the smallmouth in that current. That's when you told me about your company trying to work with TVA to repair hole. It surprised me at the time, or it never occured to me that there would be commercial diving in this part of the country. Very interesting.

BTW, Have you ever seen those "200 lb catfish" by the dam? It seems those stories pop up from time to time.

Most of the commerical work in thios area is boat or barge work and Power house work.  I have retired fron the commericial end of it  and sold the company.

No I have never seen one but most of the time the visibility is low.  Those stories are at every dam you go to.  I have worked at just about a TVA dam in the TVA chain and you hear them at every one.
