Guest avid Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 Well, it's official. Avids BassBustin Toyota Tacoma it Totaled. I was thinking in very practical terms. Read that to mean. Not cool. And i would be better served with a 2 wheel drive, standard truck. I like the extra room of the 1 1/2 cab. but it's not really necessary. A double cab is nice but I need the longer bed to haul my canoe. I don't need new. i don't need fancy. but i do need dependable. Thats why i've owned so many toyota's. If I wanted to buy something with no payments - cash that is. had let's say $20K to spend. total (all taxes fees etc) What would you advise I buy? Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted September 14, 2007 Super User Posted September 14, 2007 Man, I would go with another Toyota, just can't beat em for dependability. I owned one 10 yrs. ago and can honestly say it was the least costly and most reliable truck I have owned. I have owned them all except for Nissan. Quote

Full size would be a different story. Another taco would be the way to go imo. Quote
Clayton Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 Same here man Toyota for sure. Tundra extra cab 2wd is one of the best trucks on the road. I have been in the market for a truck a while and whenever I look I always think toyota first. My second choice would be a chevy. You can get a good chevy for under 20. Good luck. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted September 14, 2007 Super User Posted September 14, 2007 GMC Sierra 1500 full 4dr with extra long bed and a 2inch lift. Your canoe will fit perfectly and you will probably be somewhat safer than the Toyota when running off the road. Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 14, 2007 Super User Posted September 14, 2007 I don't know how expensive trucks are in Florida but here you can buy a brand new Nissan Frontier XE 261 hp 4.0 Liter Automatic Transmission for $19,995. Quote
stilldontlikeyou Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 I would check out the Chevy Colorados/GMC Canyon/Isuzu models For a 4 cylinder I get 190 horsepower, plus I love my truck Try checking those out as well Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted September 14, 2007 Super User Posted September 14, 2007 Check out Carsurvey.org and Edmunds.com. They have some really good customer review sites. Quote

BassHunter69 Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 avid, i think it pretty much is going to depend on what you as the owner will prefer. ultimately your the one who must be happy so this is what i'd do. i'd look into many differnt packages as to what differnt companies offer that you may or may not be interested in check everything out and i mean everything. i know you said nothing fancy but still im sure you may want to upgrade just a lil bit after all you had one close call totalled that mama jama and walked away as if you were bad to the bone, so why not give your self a lil treat ( please no angela jolie pics j/k ;D) lita ford maybe ;D ;D either way treat yourself even if its only to an ice cream cone i'd say after this rough period recovbering form surgry you deserve it and more. Super User flechero Posted September 14, 2007 Super User Posted September 14, 2007 Avid, For $20,000.00 there are tons of good, dependable, slightly used vehicles around. And as Catt points out, there are new options as well. If you opt for 2 wd, there would be even more options. Buying something outright is always a great way to go. Not being bound to truck (or boat) payments is one of the best feelings there is. (Google: Proverbs 22:7) Quote
Panamoka_Bassin Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 I bought a '04 Ranger last year and can't complain one bit. I had my last ranger for 14 years and it always served me well. This one seems to be doing the same. Quote
Guest avid Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 Well, the allstate boys came through as promised. I pick up my check on Tuesday for a little MORE than they originally quoted. Bass Hunter said it best. My heart is with toyota. I pick up "Avids Bass Bustin Tacoma II" tomorrow. Last of the '07's and with the Toyota incentive, my allstate settlement covers it all Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted September 14, 2007 Super User Posted September 14, 2007 Avid, I've got a line on some sweet 22" rims if you are interested Glad to hear that you're not out of pocket on anything! Nice ride! Quote
Olebiker Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 Aw, that's so nice. Where are the Toyota trucks assembled? Quote
BassHunter69 Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 sweet looking ride avid. glad i was able to say something decent ;D Quote
Red Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 i am not 100 percent sure, but if the vin on a yota starts with a "J" is was built in japan..if it starts with a "4" it was built in the US i had an 89 toyota when i lived in minnesota...i bought it with 207.000 plus miles on it...it had 4" lift, big mud tires, aftermarket headers, and a whole lotta rust....but i drove that thing hard as hell, off road, pullin people out of ditches and snowbanks, i beat the crap out of it...it just kept going and going...finally, right before i moved to texas...i was pullin a co workers dodge dakota out of a ditch, he was burried in mud....hooked the strap up, snatched him up onto the road and roached the clutch in the process....couldnt afford to fix it and was about to move to the other end of the country....so i gave it away...yes, i said gave....*cries* anyway the guy i gave it too fixed the clutch and drove it through the following winter, and is probebly still driving it today....looking back i wish i would have towed it down here with me, cuz now i could have it fixed...man i loved that truck!! BTW, nice truck avid Cliff Quote

Ha!!! I KNEW somebody would pick up on those. Kinda pale looking eh? With the right wheels and floatin on a set of doves. She'll be sweet enough. Quote
MitchIsFishin Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 Avid, that's the best d**n truck on the market, bar none. Mine ('99) is coming up on 300K, runs the same as day 1. I figure I'll get 550k-600K, keep as a trophy of engineering and go get another one. Tacomas, you can drive 'em forever and then some. Enjoy it. Quote

Yep, my last Tacoma was bullet proof in terms of reliability. Too bad it wasn't bottom of the ditch slam into metal guard rail proof. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted September 18, 2007 Super User Posted September 18, 2007 So, you've owned so many toyota and yet you say it dependable? Man, my dad had the same F-150 for 14 years before giving it to me. And that truck still in running shape. Long lives the Ford!! It last forever if you take care of it. Heck, that keyword to any brand "it'll last forever if you take care of it." Quote
